“That’s When Some Real Magic Happens”: Walton Goggins Teases a Level Up Coming in ‘Fallout’ Season 2

Walton Goggins has been the talk of the town lately thanks to his recent performances in The White Lotus and The Righteous Gemstones, but last year, he also starred in another show that set the world on fire. Goggins plays the lead role of The Ghoul in Fallout, the Prime Video produced video game adaptation that premiered a critically acclaimed and audience-beloved first season last April. Fallout was such a hit that it earned a swift renewal not long after the binge premiere, and production on the second season kicked off at the end of last year. Goggins recently sat down for an interview with Complex, and he teased a bigger Season 2 that will expand on all the things audiences love from Season 1:
"We're deep into Season 2 of Fallout. Now that people understand what the world is, this story just takes it to a whole other level. I've been around a long time,...

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Season 3 of Yellowjackets.
Yellowjackets has always worn its cannibalism on its sleeve. The series opens with a disturbing sequence in which masked hunters chase a barefoot girl through the snowy woods then string her dead body up to butcher and eat. For two seasons, the teenage survivors of a devastating plane crash have adjusted to life in the mountains of Northern Canada, trying to placate the mysterious entity that seems to guide their collective fates. They have eaten human flesh, but only out of necessity and most deaths thus far have been accidental.
But everything changes in season three.
The premiere episode opens with a pagan ritual that kicks off a season-long arc toward intentional human sacrifice. While audiences have been mostly consumed with the action-packed ‘97 timeline and the newly revealed Antler Queen, an equally ominous plot line hides in the present day story.

He recently gave out some exciting details about the upcoming season, which "really starts cooking."

I go wild for television series bibles. These are the mini-books that lay out what a show is, who the characters are, and which guide the writers as they take us on a journey with those characters. It's especially fascinating to comb over what changed and try to suss out why.
"Yellowjackets" is no exception. As the popular Showtime horror-mystery series closes out its third season, the show has come a long way from series creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson's original pitch deck. That pitch was cited in 2021 as an example of how to sell a show correctly, and has made the usual rounds on social media.
The basics of the story we know are there in those nine pages. A high school girls soccer team is on a flight to Nationals when the plane crashes in the Wilderness. They're left stranded in the wild for almost two years before rescue comes.

‘Yellowjackets’ Unveils Its Antler Queen Once and for All — and the Answer Was Always in Front of Us

Bow down, bitches. After years of speculation, “Yellowjackets” Season 3 finally unmasked the series’ “antler queen” — and despite plenty of viable candidates, the answer was hiding in plain sight.
The Season 3 finale, written by Ameni Rozsa and directed by Bart Nickerson, is titled “Full Circle” in a direct reference to its pilot parallels. After over a year in the wilderness, this episode brings the stranded Yellowjackets right up to the deadly flashback in the series premiere — and sets up the terrifying uncertainty of what’s next.
What We Know
The Wiskayok High School varsity girls soccer team crashed somewhere in the Canadian Rockies during the spring of 1996, probably somewhere around mid- or late-May based on the weather, timing with Nationals, and the freshman pouting about missing prom. They end up spending 19 months out there, which means they’re rescued not long after the midwinter madness depicted in Episodes 101 and 310.

[This story contains major spoilers from the penultimate episode of season three of Yellowjackets, “How the Story Ends.”]
Yellowjackets season three has not been for the faint of heart. This season of the hit Showtime series went on a killing spree, both out in the wilderness during the 1996 timeline, as well as in present day with the adult survivors of a plane crash that stranded them for 19 months when they were teenagers.
The most unexpected deaths came in episode four, when Simone Kessell’s Adult Lottie was mysteriously found dead at the bottom of a familiar looking staircase (seen in a vision by Lottie in season one), and in the penultimate episode when Lauren Ambrose’s Van was fatally stabbed in the heart by Adult Melissa (played by guest star Hilary Swank). The finale, which is titled “Full Circle” (written by Ameni Rozsa and directed by co-creator Bart Nickerson), will deliver the long-awaited answer around who killed Lottie Matthews, and viewers will see...

There’s no better time to be a fan of Walton Goggins than right now. The two-time Emmy nominee just wrapped up work on the third season of The White Lotus, and he can also be seen opposite Danny McBride in The Righteous Gemstones. However, long before he ever suited up as Baby Billy Freeman or Rick Hatchett, he worked with Danny McBride on an HBO original comedy series that has returned to streaming charts after going off the air in 2017. Goggins and McBride star opposite Shea Whigham and Edi Patterson in Vice Principals, the sitcom following two vice principals competing for the principal job. Season 2 of the series earned a perfect 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which followed a 64% in Season 1. Vice Principals is #9 on Max at the time of writing.

Ella Purnell is one of the most confounding performers working right now. With large, Disney-like eyes and a bright, charismatic personality evident in various interviews online, one might expect to see the English actor leading coming-of-age comedies or sweeping period dramas. It certainly seems to us that her unique and unexpected resume was born of a desire to consistently challenge herself artistically, fortunately drawing her toward strikingly complex characters in arresting stories. Warning: The following story contains spoilers about last week's episode of Yellowjackets, "A Normal, Boring Life."
Throughout the first 26 episodes of Yellowjackets, there are multiple instances in which adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) brings out the dark side from behind her harmless homemaker façade. When she drives off a prying journalist in the show's pilot. When she threatens to gut former schoolmate Randy (Jeff Holman) “like a pig” if he tells anyone about his and her husband Jeff’s (Warren Kole) attempt to blackmail the Yellowjackets. When she reminisces about her many times skinning human corpses to scare a carjacker into returning her stolen vehicle. But she never allows that dark side to fully take over. In the Showtime drama’s 27th outing, the eighth episode of its third season, “A Normal, Boring Life,” she finally does, and it leads to another Emmy-worthy turn from Lynskey.

"Arcane" felt like the start of a new era of TV animation. The show delivered visuals that experimented with 3D and 2D textures in the way big-budget movies like "Into the Spider-Verse" did. It told a bold, mature, and complex story with memorable and well-developed characters, and introduced a vast and layered world with a deep sense of lore and mystery. It helped put the final nail in the coffin of the video game adaptation curse, being one of only three perfect animated video game TV shows — according to Rotten Tomatoes.
The show is based on the hugely popular video game "League of Legends," and serves as a pseudo-prequel to some of the game's biggest characters. It centers around two sisters, Vi (Hailee Seinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell), who find themselves on opposite sides of a huge conflict involving the entire city-state of Piltover after arcane technology is discovered.

While we were hopeful the girls could pull their stuff together in “Croak,” a few proved a little too wild to get rescued. To be fair, there has been a timeline established earlier in the show, and we were fairly certain they would not find themselves saved in this window. Even so, they have made a mess of things. However, with Akilah and Travis heading towards salvation, the Yellowjackets might be closer to survival in “A Normal, Boring Life” than they have been in some time.

Heartstopper EP Patrick Walters has spotlighted the difficulty of getting YA projects made as he says the creative team is “working hard” on landing a fourth season of the Netflix smash.
Speaking to the present funding challenges in the drama market, Walters explained at Series Mania that the best YA shows often come from “nascent IP or original ideas that are hard to get over the line.”
“I think it’s because the audience is specific, the worry is does it feel niche and is it speaking to a wide enough audience in this specificity?” said Walters, who also produced Sky-Starz’ Sweetpea via his See-Saw Films-backed label fanboy. “The best YA nails those young voices and the current mood of a generation in whatever way, and it’s about trying to do that in a way that allows your broadcasting partner to say, ‘Yes, and this will also connect...

With the release of the third season, fans have been theorizing on pit girl really is. Early on in Season 3, fans predicted that pit girl is Mari (Alexa Barajas). There are a few obvious reasons why. But now, with the latest episode, there’s another potential candidate to consider.
Who Is Pit Girl?

Season 2 of Fallout is already making waves with some exciting news. The show has received a $153 million tax credit from the California Tax Commission to help cover its production costs.
This amount is typically used to help reduce the budget, which is expected to be around $19 million per episode, if the season sticks to the usual eight episodes.
While that may seem like a lot of money, it’s not surprising for a show like Fallout that requires a lot of effort to create its unique post-apocalyptic world.

Season 3 of Yellowjackets sees Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) in a post-partum haze, brushing against the levity the other girls are experiencing in springtime. Shauna's growing pains after the tragedy of losing Jackie (Ella Purnell) and her child so close together are complicated by both Coach Ben's (Steven Krueger) abandonment and trial, and the admiration of Melissa (Jenna Burgess). Melissa, seemingly meek, seems interested in not only Shauna’s capacity as a butcher, but in her increasing violence and rage. In Season 3, Episode 5, "Did Tai Do That?",Melissa punctuates this dynamic when she gives Shauna a sheath for her hunting knife and highlights Jackie's past mistreatment of Shauna, as well as Jeff treating her like a "dirty secret."...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 3.] Since Yellowjackets premiered in 2021, it’s been clear that no character is safe. From Laura Lee (Jane Widdop) to Jackie (Ella Purnell), the wilderness quickly began to take its pick of the ensemble cast of characters. But, with Season 2, it became clear that the writers were adamant to bring some sorrow to the adult timeline as well. While this wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, the adults the writers continue to kill off are all linked by a fundamental aspect which joins them: From the teen timeline to the adult timeline, these characters have been plagued by the Doomed Character Trope. A show like this is captivating because of the unpredictability of its circumstances. When each death relies on characters who have already suffered tenfold, it’s impossible not to feel nauseated each time someone is picked off. Although this trend feels like it started with Natalie’s (Sophie Thatcher,...

Reacher returned to Prime Video with Season 3 nearly three weeks ago, and the show has produced record viewership for the streamer. Amazon has announced that Reacher Season 3 has accrued 54.6 million views in its first 19 days, more than any returning series ever. Alan Ritchson’s action series, based on the famous novels by Lee Child, is also a global hit, with 56% of its large audience coming from international viewers. Reacher is also the most-watched series on Prime Video through its first 19 days since Fallout, the hit video game adaptation starring Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell, and while it looked like House of David might dethrone Reacher Season 3, it remains in the #1 spot on Prime Video’s streaming charts.

Season 3 of Yellowjacketsis nearly halfway over, and the cracks in the previously brilliant Showtime thriller are starting to show. Plot threads have seemingly been dropped, characters have disappeared without mention, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to see how all the series' loose ends will be tied together. Beyond all of this, the biggest issue in the season so far concerns the most important aspect of Yellowjackets: its main characters.
In both the Past and Present, Yellowjackets Season 3 is running out of heroines to root for. At the end of Episode 4, "12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis," Present Day Lottie Matthews is killed off out of nowhere. The death of this fan-favorite character comes right off the heels of the equally tragic death of Natalie Scatorccio, and in the midst of most of the surviving characters becoming increasingly unsympathetic and unlikable.

Who knew that a simple piece of jewelry could cause such a stir? In Episode 3 of Season 3 of Yellowjackets, called “Them’s The Brakes,” Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) furiously kicks Lottie (Simone Kessell) out of her house because of this necklace that has found its way through every season of the show. Now that fans have the answer to where it has been for the last 25 years, the question is: How did it get there, and what symbolic meaning does it truly hold?
The necklace, a simple chain with a heart-shaped pendant, was originally owned by Jackie (Ella Purnell), Shauna’s best friend before she perished. But its journey to Lottie clearly took many twists and turns that fans still have questions about. Warning: this article contains massive spoilers for "Yellowjackets."
On the latest "Yellowjackets," the teenage cast — stuck in the wilderness and the '90s — held a trial for Coach Ben (Steven Krueger), accused of torching their cabin last season. In the 2021 timeline, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) was once more haunted by the late Jackie (Ella Purnell) while Tai (Tawny Cypress) and Van (Lauren Ambrose) tested if the Wilderness is hungry for another trade of lives.
Overall, the past storyline (as usual) seemed like the higher stakes one — until the episode's closing moments, when Misty (Christina Ricci) sees the latest post on her Citizen Detective message board. Lottie (Simone Kessell) is dead, lying at the bottom of a stairwell. Just to convince any doubters, the camera lingers on her still body to show, yes, she really is dead.
This twist has got the "Yellowjackets" hive all riled up, and not exactly because they're singing its praises.

The ghost of besties past has come back for a much-welcome haunting on Yellowjackets.
While discussing Season 3 of the hit Showtime series, Melanie Lynskey raved to Deadline about reuniting with co-star Ella Purnell in this week’s episode ’12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis’ and watching the presidential election together in November.
“It was really fun. She and I had a lot of stuff in an earlier season,” she noted. “I guess in Season 1, she was haunting me a lot. Then I think she was too busy to haunt in Season 2. So, it was nice to have her back again. She’s so wonderful. She’s such a good actor, and she’s a very cool person.”
Lynskey added, “I was at her house on election night, and it was a great place to be. It...

Is she really dead?
The latest episode of Yellowjackets left viewers staring at the lifeless body of someone in the main cast. Is this happening again? Is another adult survivor of the wilderness actually gone?
(Spoiler alert!) Yes, confirms the actress who plays her, Simone Kessell.
Adult Lottie, who has been played by Kessell ever since the Obi-Wan Kenobi star joined the adult cast of the Showtime series in season two, has been aimless in season three after the dismantling of her spiritual community following the events of last season’s finale. Her Sunshine Honey Wellness Community of “purple people” followers was questioned by her friends, as well as viewers, about if it was a cult and if Lottie truly believed in the leadership she was offering, or if she was scamming vulnerable followers out of their money.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 4, titled “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Who killed Lottie Matthews?
In a shocking turn of events, Episode 4 of “Yellowjackets” ends in the present day, with adult Lottie, played by Simone Kessell, dead at the bottom of the stairs.
Earlier in Season 3, Lottie showed up at Shauna’s (Melanie Lynskey) door, fresh out of the psych ward, with luggage in hand. She had nowhere to go, and Shauna reluctantly let her stay. With a dinner to go to, Shauna and Jeff (Warren Kole) didn’t want to leave Lottie alone with their teen daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins), so Shauna she pleaded with Misty (Christina Ricci) to come and play babysitter. Shauna didn’t want Lottie spilling any secrets about what happened in the wilderness.
Callie and Lottie bond, though, and then they go on a shoplifting spree.

Ella Purnell has a rather unusual complaint about one of her biggest roles yet—losing a finger. The Fallout star recently opened up about the frustration of dealing with a fake amputated finger while playing Lucy MacLean in the Prime Video series. And this isn’t even the first time she’s had to go through it—her Arcane character, Jinx, also lost a finger in Season 2.
During a Fan Expo HQ panel, Purnell admitted she really hopes this doesn’t become a recurring theme in her career. “That would be one of the worst things to happen to me,” she said. “Purely because, do you have any idea how annoying it is to have that finger painted on me every single day? This finger is the bane of my life. It is the worst thing.”
