Whether you’ve been eager to return to Pandora or not, it’s safe to say that we’ve had an awfully long wait for Avatar: The Way of Water, the first of multiple sequels to James Cameron’s epic sci-fi saga. The first reactions to Avatar: The Way of Water have emerged and it sounds like James Cameron has done it again.
Just saw #AvatarTheWayOfWater – will certainly divide people as there are some cheesy bits But James Cameron is a master and you really do, utterly invest in the characters, and nothing else comes close to being this immersive. I was cool on the original but I loved this.

Really enjoyed #AvatarTheWayOfWater about as much as the first movie. Stunning visuals and a story that you can tell Cameron has been wanting to tell for ages. But it does feel like Cameron has one more left and not multiple sequels.

“The Good Doctor” actor Nicholas Gonzalez says Latinx representation in media is often stereotyped, and even when it isn’t, the characters are only temporary.
“I was thankful to be … doing a very positive portrayal of a high-achieving cardiothoracic surgeon who happened to be Latino, which I think was a very good representation of the heights we can ascend to, those kinds of roles we’re talking about having, and they killed him,” the actor said during SAG-AFTRA’s Race & Storytelling: Through the Latino Lens virtual panel on Tuesday. “We don’t last.”
Moderated by “Good Day LA” anchor Amanda Salas, panelists also included actors Dan Bucatinsky and Nicholas Gonzalez, casting director Carla Hool, Broken English Productions president Jolene Rodriguez and “One Day at a Time” showrunner Gloria Calderon Kellett.
Latinx roles make up 3-5% of the lead parts in Hollywood despite making up around 17% of the overall United States population.

Hollywood union publicists have selected Warner Bros.’ “Joker” and Disney’s “The Mandalorian” as winners of the Maxwell Weinberg Awards for top publicity campaigns last year.
The awards were announced Friday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton by the International Cinematographers Guild Publicists.
“Joker” won the feature film award and topped the publicity teams behind Netflix’s “The Irishman,” Universal’s “Us,” Sony’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” Paramount’s “Rocketman” and Disney-Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” The Joaquin Phoenix vehicle was a smash with more than $1 billion in global box office along with receiving 11 Academy Award nominations.
The first season of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian” took the television awards over the campaigns for “Catch 22,” “Fosse/Verdon,” “Pose,” and “Stranger Things.”
Steven Huvane of Slate PR won the Les Mason award, presented by longtime client Jennifer Aniston, who told the audience, “You really are some of the hardest working people in this town.

Oh, the irony! I’ve been covering Hollywood industry awards as a journalist for 30 years and now I’m nominated for the Press Award bestowed by Hollywood’s leading PR guild: Icg Publicists. It’s so gracious of them – thank you, huzzahs to all – but now I’ll get a toxic dose of what I report on all the time: nominee jitters.
Uh-oh: do my Hollywood industry peers really, really like me? Should I campaign aggressively? Rent out billboards on Sunset Boulevard? What should I wear on Feb. 7 when the winner is revealed at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the same room where the Golden Globes are doled out?
Lucky for me, I know the drill. I’ve been nominated, and lost, twice in the past. Only 16 more defeats and I’ll be the Susan Lucci of the Publicists’ Award! So, please, save me: spread the word across town — Vote for Tom!

Beto O’Rourke’s historic 2018 Senate run failed to topple incumbent Ted Cruz, but it certainly put Texas Republicans on notice, and provided the first genuine illustration of the state’s potential for its own blue wave. By the end of O’Rourke’s campaign, the charismatic El Paso native garnered four million votes, catalyzing a down-ballot effect that impacted local races and widened O’Rourke’s national profile to a point that instantly fueled speculation of a presidential run.
David Modigliani’s camera tagged along for much of this journey, and anyone just getting caught up on the Beto phenomenon — or still nostalgic for the euphoria of his race — will find their fix with the filmmaker’s “Running With Beto.” A straightforward overview that benefits from Modigliani’s access over the course of the campaign’s final 12-month stretch, the movie captures the emotional tenor of the campaign and...

It’s been 18 years since I escaped the state of Texas, and nothing illustrates how much things have changed in that hyper-conservative stronghold than the rise and near-win of Senatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke in his bid for Senate.
On its surface, David Modigliani’s “Running With Beto” is an inside account of that campaign — reminiscent of Albert Maysles’ “Primary” or Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker’s more recent “The War Room” — tracing the Democratic Congressman from early speaking engagements where barely two dozen people showed up to his status as a nationally recognized hero and poster boy for the “blue wave” that swept the country during the 2018 mid-term elections. But it’s also the portrait of a state many of us thought we had pinned down, and how its identity is shifting in a positive direction.
