Neal Brennan begins his forthcoming Netflix special with a disclaimer of sorts.
“If you’re watching this because you saw my other Netflix specials and I talked about having depression and you wanted to support a fellow traveler, I have some terrible news,” he says at the top of his new hour, “I feel pretty great.”
Then, rather than linger on his own mental health journey, which he explored in previous critically acclaimed specials 3 Mics and Blocks, he spends a healthy portion of Crazy Good joking about the perks or upside of “bad mental health.” Doing anything else with his latest set, which will premiere on Netflix April 9, felt disingenuous to Brennan, who broke out as the co-creator of Chappelle’s Show in the early ’00s and has segued, more recently, from comic whisperer to comic star.
Over Zoom in mid-March, Brennan opened up about that mental health arc of his...

CAA is adding to its ranks.
The agency has hired Saraphina Monaco as an agent in its television talent department. She’ll be based at CAA’s Century City office and will focus on identifying and creating acting opportunities for the agency’s comedy touring clients — which includes several A-list comedians — in film and television.
Monaco joins CAA from A3 Artists Agency, where she spent five years as a talent agent in its theatrical division. The agency ceased operations in February. Prior to that, Monaco worked at Buchwald, in both its New York and Los Angeles offices, and Prestige Talent Agency. She began her career as an assistant at Aquila/Wood Casting and also has experience at a few boutique agencies.

The Riverdale alum finally graduates out of high school roles, aged 29, with a frothy Valentine’s offering that adds a meet-cute to a Devil Wears Prada tale
I’ll admit that my first thought upon seeing Upgraded, a new Amazon Prime romcom, was something close to excitement – finally, a leading role for Camila Mendes that’s not in high school. At 29, the Riverdale alum, so game for whatever batshit curveball that show threw her and so sharp in Netflix’s romp Do Revenge, is a veteran of commanding the screen as a bitchy, beautiful, secretly vulnerable teen queen. Upgraded, from actor turned director Carlson Young, offers Mendes the much-deserved chance to act her age – or, at least, a scrappy third-tier assistant old enough to have a master’s degree in art history, who gets in way over her head and also charms everyone around her.
Like many a teen-show-to-feature upgrade before it,...

It’s quite the feat to craft a satisfying, clever romantic comedy in this cynical day and age, given almost every meet-cute, situational shenanigan and grand gesture has already been put to celluloid. However, “Upgraded,” which initially appears to be a stereotypical rags-to-riches tale centered on a desperate gal’s life drastically improving after telling a white lie to a cute guy, keeps these expected elements fresh and vibrant. Director Carlson Young and screenwriters Christine Lenig, Justin Matthews and Luke Spencer Roberts ground sharp, soaring sentiments in a reachable reality, innovatively remixing the genre’s familiar formulas to create their own meaningful and rather endearing movie.

The Underdoggs is an R-rated children's sports comedy starring Snoop Dogg as a former NFL player coaching a losing youth football team. The movie combines R-rated humor with twists on the kids sports formula to create a crowd-pleasing film. Director Charles Stone III was drawn to the project because of its portrayal of a Southern California blue-collar Little League and the transformative power of children's actions.
The world of children's sports comedies is getting an R-rated twist with The Underdoggs. The movie centers on Two Js Jennings, a washed-up NFL player who finds himself in hot water after driving recklessly in the streets of LA. Being sentenced to over 300 hours of community service in his hometown of Long Beach, he thinks he finds a way around it by coaching a losing youth football team, and a way to restore his career, only to realize he has a hard road ahead of him.

He is a phenomenon, this lanky fellow named Snoop Dogg. Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., Dogg has become one of the most famous people on the planet. Many might not know, but he has a healthy acting career as well, apart from one in music. By healthy, I mean it’s filled with bit parts in pretty bad and forgettable movies, but sometimes he features in good ones too. The Underdoggs features a full-fledged performance by Snoop Dogg as the protagonist, and it is hilarious right from the beginning through to the end. Directed by Charles Stone III, The Underdoggs is a simple tale about a washed-up football star who returns to his roots to help the underprivileged kids in his old neighborhood achieve glory. I don’t know about you all, but I’ve seen this story a million times. There are some minor changes here and there in each rendition,...

Snoop Dogg stars in The Underdoggs, a sports comedy about a former NFL superstar sentenced to coach a youth football team. The movie pays tribute to genre predecessors like Bad News Bears and is both feel-good and funny. Snoop Dogg plays a former football player who coaches a rowdy youth football team to avoid prison in The Underdoggs. The movie combines R-rated humor with heartfelt reflection, proving to be a charming effort. Snoop Dogg and Tika Sumpter discuss the challenges of playing unlikable characters and tease updates on the Knuckles spinoff and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
A heartwarming chapter of Snoop Dogg's real life is getting a comedic twist in The Underdoggs. Inspired by the creation of his Snoop Youth Football League, the movie revolves around a former professional football player whose selfish behavior nearly lands him in prison until he agrees to coach a rowdy youth football team.

With the “big game” only a few weeks away, do you need some movie fuel for your football “fever”? Something brand new, I should say since most gridiron fans probably have their shelves stocked with Any Given Sunday, The Replacements, and Rudy. Well, Amazon has just the thing with a raucous comedy about a ragtag bunch of preteen misfits in peewee football, coached by a guy whose heart is slowly melted by them. Sounds like a variation of last year’s football, er soccer, and adult inspired by real events comedy set in American Samoa, Next Goal Wins. Yes, it’s a tried and true formula, but this flick has a twist in its casting, as the coach is played by rapper Snoop Dogg. He provides the “spark” (if you get my drift) and the inspiration for the movie’s title, The Underdoggs.

The puckish appeal of Charles Stone III’s The Underdoggs, a new spin on The Bad News Bears, is apparent from its opening title card, which offers a warning that its R rating was well earned, that no child should watch it, and that, well, the kids you really have to worry about are the ones whose parents don’t allow them to watch R-rated films.
Snoop Dogg stars as Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a former high school football star whose clutch, single-handed catch during his senior-year championship game set him up for a career as a young NFL hotshot who, predictably, flamed out in a blaze of ignominy, hubris, and sativa. (His puff-don’t-pass signature end-zone dance makes it clear that the “two Js” of his nickname aren’t derived from his first and last names.) Plot: Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings is a washed-up ex-professional football star who has hit rock bottom. When Jaycen is sentenced to community service coaching the Underdoggs, an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown of Long Beach, California, he sees it as an opportunity to rebuild his public image and turn his life around. Marisa Tomei is channeling her inner Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) in the official trailer for Prime Video’s upcoming romcom, Upgraded. She may not have gone to the method acting lengths that Streep did in The Devil Wears Prada, but Tomei is just as terrifying as a revered art gallery owner in New York City and boss of Riverdale’s Camila Mendes. A story about one young woman’s white lie that spirals out of control, the feature also stars Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Academy and Emmy Award nominee, Lena Olin, Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Andrew Schulz (Benders).

Warning! Spoilers for You People!
While You People has plenty of intentionally comedic moments, the film’s fake CGI kiss has created another funniest moment for the cast. Comedies in general and romantic comedies, are always bound to have good behind-the-scenes moments that the audience is not privy to. This is especially true with the advent of CGI technology creating even more visually ridiculous behind-the-scenes bloopers to enjoy, even in movies that are not as reliant on this technology. As such, it’s good to see films such as You People embracing the march of technology to add to its levity in front of and behind the camera.
You People tells the story of Ezra (Jonah Hill) and Amira (Lauren London) as they fall in love and must deal with the culture clash of their families due to their racial differences. This results in several miscommunications and faux pas throughout...

You People ends with a romantic moment between leads Jonah Hill and Lauren London, but one member of the Netflix movie’s team claims it was never actually filmed.
During a conversation on the latest episode of podcast The Brilliant Idiots, co-hosts Charlamagne Tha God and Andrew Schulz discussed director Kenya Barris’ film, which centers on interracial couple Ezra Cohen (Hill) and Amira Mohammed (London) dealing with their families’ complicated reactions to the relationship. Schulz plays Ezra’s cousin Avi in You People, which was released last month and also stars Eddie Murphy, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny.

Netflix’s You People hasn’t garnered the strongest reviews overall, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t discussion going on surrounding the rom-com. The focus of the conversation surrounds a kiss between stars Jonah Hill and Lauren London…or should we say alleged kiss, as You People appears to have digitally manipulated it to only make it appear that Hill and London smooched.
According to You People supporter Andrew Schulz, the kiss between Hill and London at the end of the movie wasn’t real at all, but computer-generated. “The final scene, they don’t even kiss. It’s CGI! Despite the all-star cast that includes Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy along with the fact that Hill and filmmaker Kenya Barris also co-wrote it, Netflix’s “You People” didn’t get a ton of love from critics upon its release recently. And sure, the film is in the Netflix Top 10 or whatever, but there’s also the general feeling that audiences were a bit let down by the comedy.

Exclusive: Comedian, actor, producer and podcaster Andrew Schulz (Infamous) has signed with CAA.
One of the biggest and most influential names in comedy today, the business-savvy Schulz has been credited with helping to spur democratization in comedy. He’s among those who have proven that comics looking to retain ownership of their material — by self-releasing on platforms like YouTube — can achieve equal or greater success, both financially and in terms of the building of an audience, in comparison to those who strike deals with streamers or networks.
Schulz recently sold more than 150,000 tickets as part of his 10 month, sold-out Infamous Tour, which he capped off by selling out the 6,000-seat Radio City Music Hall twice. He premiered his subsequent special Infamous exclusively via the live-streaming social media platform Moment House in July before releasing it for free on YouTube.

Jimmy Donaldson is the current top dog on YouTube, but the man known as MrBeast is cooking up show ideas that could take him to other platforms. During an appearance on the Flagrant podcast, Donaldson said that he wants to produce a series for Netflix.
“I think we’re gonna do a Netflix show eventually,” Donaldson told Flagrant hosts Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh. “We’ve just been busy.”
When the two stand-up comedians pressed Donaldson for details, he shared a couple of concepts that could fit on Netflix. Unsurprisingly, both pitches have similarities to Squid Game — the Korean thriller was the biggest hit of 2021 for both Netflix and MrBeast.
One of the proposed shows would gather 10,000 MrBeast fans in a stadium for a 10-episode elimination tournament. The other idea would also employ a “last person standing” conceit, but it would be much more violent than a typical MrBeast video.
