Author Shirley Jackson was a unique trailblazer in American fiction, crafting horror stories that weave supernatural elements with stories about grief, trauma, and mental illness. Over her lifetime she published six novels and more than 200 short stories, along with two memoirs, but surprisingly there have been only five film and television adaptations of her work. Plenty of others have been inspired by Jackson, of course, but only four films and one TV series actually seek to adapt her work in some way, to varying degrees of success.

There's something to appreciate in each of these works because the source material is so rich, but some Shirley Jackson adaptations are far better than others. So, let's take a look at them from worst to best, starting with the earliest adaptation: the 1957 Hugo Haas noir film "Lizzie."

The network has set a June 22 premiere date released a first teaser for the drama’s forthcoming season. The teaser shows Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) sticking to her “too much is never enough” ethos and preparing to marry off her daughter, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) — a prospect which, judging by Farmiga’s expression in a few shots in the minute-long clip, doesn’t excite Gladys very much.

Per Deadline, Lange shot down the possibility of returning to American Horror Story during a recent appearance at the Glasgow Film Festival for the premiere of director Jonathan Kent's feature film adaptation of playwright Eugene O'Neil's Long Day’s Journey Into Night. When asked about a potential return to the series, Lange responded with an emphatic "Oh Christ, no." 2024 guaranteed the promising future of successful franchises such as Deadpool and Planet of the Apes but also might have sealed the fate of other franchises, such as in the case of Madame Web's box office flop and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's disappointing opening weekend. Movie studios produce entertainment, but ultimately, their goal is to make money. If a film is financially prosperous, chances are a second and third will succeed, too. The Gilded Age season 3 has added multiple new cast members for the upcoming season. The costume drama delves into New York City's high society of the 1880s, where the Russell family experiences friction with the van Rhijn family. The HBO series kicked off in the beginning of 2022, and had a follow-up season last year. The Gilded Age season 3 is currently in development and is set for release sometime in 2025. The series features a leading cast including Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denee Benton, Taissa Farmiga, and Harry Richardson.

As per Deadline, The Gilded Age has now added six new cast members for season three. These cast members include Dylan Baker, Kate Baldwin, Michael Cumpsty, John Ellison Conlee, Bobby Steggert, and Hannah Shealy.

Shared on Instagram, the set photos show franchise vets Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as they reprise paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren for the last time. This comes after over a decade since Wilson and Farmiga portrayed the famous couple in the first installment, which centered around haunting experiences of the Perron family. In addition to leading the main franchise, Wilson and Farmiga have also made brief appearances in other Conjuring spinoffs, including Annabelle Comes Home and The Nun II. At the moment, Wan or New Line Cinema has yet to reveal if there would be plans for Wilson and Farmiga to continue making cameos in future The Conjuring Universe projects.

American Horror Story popularized the horror anthology genre, but 13 seasons after the show debuted, it's time to call it a day. When AHS first aired in 2011, the show delivered an outstanding, compelling series, with incredible actors that just worked. However, when the show delivered a second season, with some of those same actors returning, and a brand new exciting premise which delivered that same horror and anticipation to an even greater extent, it broke the standard format.

Of course, there were anthology shows before AHS, but its influence in popularizing this kind of storytelling and variety is undeniable. All of that said, the show appears to have it's peak early in the runtime, and now it's struggling to recapture the magic in the latest seasons. Since the show is already renewed for a 13th season, perhaps that should be where they call it a day, and lay the show to rest.

The Conjuring: Last Rites will be the final film in the horror franchise based on the real-life supernatural cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren. As the film prepares for its 2025 release, two new actors have joined the cast.

Per Deadline, Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson will appear in the film in undisclosed roles, alongside Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga who return to the franchise as Ed and Lorraine Warren.
