4.6 Hog Day Afternoon
Last week I asked, when did Gotham become a guided tour anthology series about the DC Universe? Take a look at this week’s episode. We have a debut of a very modern DC villain, a weird Of Mice And Men riff centring on an underground fight club and a budding romance for the Penguin. How do all these diverse aspects fit together? They don’t. At all. But for some reason on some batshit strange level, it all still works.
First, let’s look at some stuff not featured this week. There is no Bruce or Alfred, no Selena...

Well that went fast. We have reached the final issue of the first story arc somehow. If I have any criticism at all, and I have enjoyed this series far too much to do more than slightly nit-pick, it is that Chris King has packed in perhaps too much too soon. He clearly has a ton of great ideas that are just spilling out, and maybe a more slow and steady approach may have paid off more down the line. But that’s a talk between Chris and his editor methinks. I’ve enjoyed it all plenty, thank you very much, just don’t run out of ideas any time soon.
A recap of what’s gone before would just take too long, so here’s the quick version. Way back in Ancient Egypt Belial was in love with Amunet,...

The DC Extended Universe will bring more Batman villains to the big screen. But there are a few we've already seen who deserve a second go.
Batman has, pretty arguably, the strongest rogues’ gallery of any comic-book hero. Sure, Spider-Man has a few great villains, and Superman has an iconic enemy in Lex Luthor, but these struggle to compare to the brilliance of Batman's diverse range of enemies. From the chaotic evil of the Joker to the fantastical shape-shifting of Clayface, the Dark Knight's villains give him plenty of reasons to use his detective skills as much as his fists.
Over the years, in the big-screen adaptations we've been treated to (or tormented with), filmmakers have struggled to do Batman's villains justice. We could argue that the World's Greatest Detective himself has been under-served, but his enemies have arguably received a rougher deal in their cinematic incarnations.

It's that time of year where horror sites and fans present their Best Horror Films of 2013 lists. For some reason I've typically steered clear of top lists in the past. I think it's mostly because of the constant whining and bellyaching that occurs once lists are released. Plus there will inevitably be good films that didn't make the list. However, mostly it's the constant cries of "That wasn't a horror movie that was a thriller stupid!" or "That movie released last year dummy!" or "There are too many mainstream releases here losers!" or my personal favorite "That film totally sucked so you guys suck!", that really get to me.
This year I decided to go ahead and make a MoreHorror Top 20 Horror Films of 2013 list because a lot of people seem interested in our take. Yes there are some mainstream Hollywood films on the list,...

Being a fan of comedic slasher films, the Hatchet series is something I am very fond of. Regardless of which one "is the better one". Frankly, it is irrelevant to me due simply to the fact that it's never taking itself too seriously in any of them.
With the title Hatchet, 1, 2, or 3 you simply know what you're in for when you press play. Hatchet 3 however, is the most serious one of them all. Its a gore pizza with a dash of cheese.
Following Marybeth back into the swamp, starting directly after the second film, it has the same formula as its predecessor. The trilogy actually seems more like one big film, as each one of them follows exactly where the last left off. With a new Director, Cameraman Bj McDonnell from the first two grabs the helming reigns for the third and final installment. It's...
