She has done some of the finest make-up and prosthetic work in Bollywood. We are talking about the award-winning Preetisheel Singh. Among the many directors she has worked with, some of her best transformations have been for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic films.
Preetisheel first worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Bajirao Mastani where she curated Ranveer Singh’s look in the film. Then she got a second chance to work with the prolific filmmaker with Padmaavat. For this film, she not only worked on the stunning looks of Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, but designed the look once again for Ranveer Singh, this time transforming him as the intimidating Alauddin Khilji.
And now, Bhansali has repeated Preetisheel to curate the look for Alia Bhatt for his upcoming saga Gangubai Kathiawadi.
“Working with Sanjay Sir is one of the most important milestones of my career,” says Preetisheel. “It feels surreal.

This year has been a great one for National Award-winning make-up, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh. “On Sanjay Sir’s sets, there is a kind of high-voltage energy and excitement which is felt by all. Everyone is prepared to give better than their best,” she explains.
As if this was not enough, Padmaavat had an amazing combo of powerhouse talents like Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. “Doing the looks for them in a historical epic was another challenge,” recalls Preetisheel.

102 Not Out will see Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor sharing screen space after a gap of 27 years. In the film, Mr. Bachchan will be seen playing Rishi Kapoor’s father. Considering the fact that both the actors have to play their character more than their actual age, a lot of prosthetics and make up was used to make them look like their character’s age.
Director Umesh Shukla states that it would take his ageing protagonists a staggering seven hours for make-up every day. This would be followed by six hours of shooting. He says, “Initially, I thought they would get irritated with the long-winded process but the make-up actually helped them emote and complemented their characters really well. Both Amitabh sir and Rishi ji would walk onto the sets at 5 am with a different kind of energy and we would commence shooting after lunch and go on till 6 pm.

National award-winning make-up and prosthetics artiste Preetisheel Singh, who is working on Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s looks in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited period drama Padmavati, says she is trying to do something different with the looks in the film.
“Padmavati is set during the 12th century, and we don’t have paintings from that era from where we can take references,” she said in an interview to Scroll.in. So Preetisheel has gone ahead and photoshoped ideas before putting them into practice. She says, though it is an imaginative and time-consuming process, it’s not very difficult for her as she always tries to make the actor don a look that he or she hasn’t had before.
Now anyone who knows even a little bit about Preetisheel would agree to that. After all, she has made a lot of heads turn with her work...
