Olivia Colman is primed for another healthy year in terms of awards as she lines up a return to the Emmys with the latest adaptation of Charles Dickens‘ seminal work “Great Expectations.”
This FX on Hulu limited series, which was created by “Peaky Blinders” boss Steven Knight, follows Fionn Whitehead‘s Pip — an orphan who works as a blacksmith’s apprentice before receiving a sudden windfall from an unknown benefactor. He then travels to London and enters high society. Colman steals the show in the short but sharp role of Miss Havisham, the spurned, wealthy spinster who was left at the altar on her own wedding day. Full of bitter resentment, she insists on wearing her cob-webbed wedding dress for the rest of her life and schemes to get Pip’s heart broken.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for The Little Mermaid! The Little Mermaid shines with Halle Bailey in the lead role of Ariel, making the character the greatest live-action Disney princess adaptation yet. Over the past decade, Disney has produced an increasing number of live-action remakes of its classic animated movies, including beloved princess movies like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, and 2023’s The Little Mermaid, with a new Snow White movie premiering in 2024. While The Little Mermaid’s Rotten Tomatoes score is relatively low at 68% from critics (ironically one of the best scores for Disney live-action remakes), the reviews overwhelmingly agree that the 2023 movie succeeds where it matters the most: Halle Bailey’s performance as Ariel.
Following Lily James as Cinderella, Emma Watson as Belle, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Yifei Liu as Mulan, Halle Bailey swims into uncharted waters as the first live-action Ariel in a big-budget remake.

A24's The Iron Claw tells the true story of the Von Erich family, and among those starring in the upcoming film is Jeremy Allen White. In the movie, White plays Kerry Von Erich, the late pro wrestling legend who was also known for his nickname, The Texas Tornado. Von Erich was considerably more muscular than White, so to portray the wrestler convincingly, White had to undergo a physical transformation. He previously said he'd had to put on 40 pounds for the role, and now he's sharing more details on the dieting he also put himself through to attain that pro wrestler physique.
"Eating all the time. Like, never stopping," White said of how what it took to beef up for The Iron Claw, per Esquire. "In the morning, I would have waffles, almond butter. In the middle of the day, I was eating turkey patties and avocado all the time.

Hulu's 2022 series "Pam & Tommy" sparked a renewed interest in the lives of former couple Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. The Hulu series transports viewers back to the '90s at the height of Anderson and Tommy's whirlwind romance and explores the ups and downs of their relationship - most notably the theft and leaking of their sex tape. Anderson and Tommy were not personally involved in making the show, so Anderson's Netflix documentary "Pamela, a Love Story," which hit the streamer on Jan. 31, saw her reclaiming the narrative. "My life has been much more meaningful than a fluffy hat or a sex tape. There's more to me than that," Anderson told Variety in an interview explaining why she felt the need to tell her own story.

Hulu lined up a fantastic ensemble with the Pam and Tommy cast, which consists of both comedy legends and award-nominated dramatists. The Pam and Tommy miniseries, which is written by Rob Siegel and directed by Craig Gillespie, is about the early days of romance between Playboy cover girl Pamela Anderson and rock star Tommy Lee. It also focuses on the theft of a private sex tape starring the two, which became one of the first viral videos in the early days of the Internet.
The story begins with a revenge scheme enacted by Rand Gauthier, a former porn star turned electrician, who claimed that Lee failed to pay him what he was owed for setting up a security system and private recording studio in Lee's home. After a convoluted heist that involved posing as a dog and stealing a refrigerator-size safe, Gauthier decided, upon discovering the sex tape, to humiliate...

Lily James is no stranger to starring in romantic movies, from projects like "Yesterday" to her latest "What's Love Got to Do With It." But when it comes to the actor's offscreen relationships, she's a little more private.
Back in 2015, James opened up about why she rarely speaks about her love life publicly. "In regards to your love life, you're just entering into a whole of pain if you talk about it," she explained to InStyle (via E! News). "If you've never said anything, there are no sound bites to haunt you when you're crying into a box of Kleenex after it all goes wrong."
Since stepping into the spotlight, James has only been publicly linked to a handful of handsome men in Hollywood, with her most-publicized relationship being her five-year romance with "The Crown" and "House of the Dragon" star Matt Smith. Sometime after that, the 34-year-old was linked to another "The Crown" actor,...

As Zoe films Kaz’s journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.

When documentary filmmaker Zoe's childhood friend Kaz, whose parents are from Pakistan, agrees to an "assisted" marriage, Zoe sees a potential story in the making. That's the endearing premise of What’s Love Got to Do with It?, directed by award-winning filmmaker Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth) and written and produced by Jemima Khan (Impeachment: American Crime Story). The film, which nabbed the Best Comedy award at the 2022 Rome Film Festival and comes from the folks who gave us Love Actually, opens May 5.
Lily James and Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery) headline What’s Love Got to Do with It?, playing Zoe and Kaz, respectively. The upbeat duo, who have known each other as neighbors since childhood, have a tight bond, which makes Zoe more than just curious as to why Kaz would agree to what she sees as an antiquated arranged marriage. Shortly before Lily James spent four hours a day transforming into Pamela Anderson for Pam & Tommy, she got back into the swing of things, post-Covid shutdown, by way of What’s Love Got to Do with It?, a London and Lahore-set romantic comedy. Filming mostly took place in James’ own backyard of London, and her co-lead, Shazad Latif, happened to be a longtime friend and former flatmate. So, in hindsight, What’s Love was likely the perfect amount of normal before the whirlwind of Pam & Tommy.
Written by Jemima Khan and directed by Shekhar Kapur, the film centers on Zoe (James), a documentarian who decides to chronicle her childhood friend Kaz’s (Latif) arranged marriage, from the first Skype call with his bride-to-be, to their first time meeting in Lahore, Pakistan. And through the documenting of Kaz’s “assisted” marriage, Zoe begins to take stock of her own dating pitfalls...

What’s Love Got to Do with It?, 2023.
Directed by Shekhar Kapur.
Starring Lily James, Shazad Latif, Shabana Azmi, Emma Thompson, Sajal Ali, Oliver Chris, Asim Chaudhry, Jeff Mirza, Alice Orr-Ewing, Rahat Fateh, Ali Khan, Peter Sandys-Clarke, Ben Ashenden, Alexander Owen, Pakiza Baig, Grace Askew, Lolly Askew, Luke McQueen, Dan Jarratt-Cook, and Shaheen Khan.
Synopsis:
In London, an award-winning filmmaker documents her best friend’s journey into an assisted marriage in line with his family’s Pakistani heritage. In the process, she challenges her own attitude toward relationships.
Thankfully, someone still knows how to take the most basic ingredients of a romantic comedy and make it charming, weaving in several thoughtful conversations. That director is Shekhar Kapur (using a script from Jemima Khan), who does not have Tina Turner in mind with the awkwardly titled What’s Love Got to Do with It?, but rather a compare and contrast between online dating...

There are very few movie genres in which Emma Thompson hasn’t left her mark, but she’s established a special pedigree in romantic comedies: from “The Tall Guy” to “Sense and Sensibility” to “Love Actually” to “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” she’s explored love in more ways on screen than most people get to experience in real life.
In the romantic entanglements of writer-producer Jemima Khan’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It?,” Thompson’s more of a well-meaning instigator than an active participant, playing a divorcee named Cath who clumsily tries to make a match for her serially-single filmmaker daughter Zoe, played by Lily James. Zoe, meanwhile, is more interested in documenting the arranged marriage agreed to by her childhood friend Kazim (Shazad Latif), not realizing the complicated feelings that his impending nuptials are igniting in her about relationships past, present and future.

The rom-com continues to make a solid comeback to the big screen with the new offering What's Love Got to Do with It?. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, this movie holds all the ingredients of a successful romantic comedy: Two attractive leads with decent chemistry, a swoon-worthy premise, and a triumphant conclusion. What's Love Got to Do with It? also has an extra advantage in its thoughtful exploration of Pakistani culture, particularly with its tradition of arranged marriages. Though the sparks could be brighter for its central couple, What's Love Got to Do with It? still has plenty of charm.

The camellia flower is as closely identified with the house of Chanel as the double-c logo. Across the brand’s jewelry, textiles, and handbags, Coco Chanel’s favorite flower has been a fixture in the collections since the 1920s, crafted from everything from enamel to rubies. (The founding designer began adorning herself with a silk version of the bloom, which is said to symbolize faithfulness and longevity, in 1913.)
At the 2023 Met Gala, several stars stunned in ensembles that celebrated the camellia flower, paying homage to Chanel in honor of Monday night’s theme: Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. Cardi B led the trend with a flourish, wearing an intricate black and white gown by Chinese designer Chen Peng (which was, notably, her second look of the night).

“George and Tammy” is just outside Gold Derby’s Best Limited Series top five, but considering Emmy voters find shows about turbulent real-life celebrity marriages nearly as irresistible as “The White Lotus,” we might be underestimating this six-part dramatization of country singers George Jones (Michael Shannon) and Tammy Wynette’s (Jessica Chastain) thirty-year romantic and artistic relationship.
In 2019, FX’s “Fosse/Verdon” scored nominations for Limited Series, Actress (eventual winner Michelle Williams), Actor (Sam Rockwell), Supporting Actress (Margaret Qualley) and its writing and directing. Positive reviews and high placement in the odds that year made the inclusion of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon’s connubial saga all but obvious. Qualley’s nomination, however, came as something of a shock. The actress was down in 18th place but outgunned Emma Thompson (“King Lear”), Sally Field (“Maniac”) and Eliza Scanlen (“Sharp Objects”).

Mamma Mia! 3 receives a confident update from its creator and producer. Based on the 1999 stage musical which features songs by Abba and was the brainchild of Judy Craymer, the first Mamma Mia! movie released to big box office returns in 2008. Both a sequel and a prequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was another box office success 10 years later with much of the main cast returning. Since then, there have been hopes for a third movie, but no official progress in recent years.
Now, in a new interview with Deadline discussing the Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream talent show on ITV, Craymer provided a confident Mamma Mia! 3 update, saying “it’s in its earliest stages.” However, Craymer cautioned that nothing is "official” yet, only that she knows "there’s a trilogy there." Exclusive: In what might be the last vigorous spec script auction before a possible WGA strike next week, Amazon Studios has paid near seven figures for Stakehorse, a crime thriller spec written by Justin Piasecki. Numerous bidders chased this one but it came down to Amazon with Hidden Pictures, and Netflix with Chernin Entertainment, sources said. Deal closed last night. Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young will produce.
The protagonist is a veterinarian who makes his living keeping horses healthy, but makes side money doing medical work for underworld figures, patching them up in a pinch. He gets over his head and suddenly his own life is in danger. The tone is reminiscent of The Town.

Welcome to another edition of Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key execs and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week we’re talking with British indie film veteran Phil Hunt, who is the founder of a raft of companies including production outfit and film financier Head Gear, international sales business Bankside and, more recently, New Zealand and Australian distribution genre label (Yet) Another Monster Company.
Phil Hunt is not a conformist. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley and Richard Madden are set to headline Amazon Studios’ Killer Heat, from director Philippe Lacôte.
The film follows twin brothers who are caught in a violent love triangle on a remote Greek island. A damaged detective, known as “The Jealousy Man,” is called in to investigate.
Pic is based on Jo Nesbø’s short story The Jealousy Man, off a script written by Roberto Bentivegna (House of Gucci), with revisions by Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies; Treason). Makeready’s Brad Weston is producing the film, with Nesbø (bestselling Harry Hole book series), Niclas Salomonsson, Gordon-Levitt, Tom Karnowski and Makeready’s Collin Creighton executive producing. Makeready’s Oscar Montemayor will associate produce.
Cameras roll in May in Crete, with Faliro House serving as the local production entity.

Netflix remains the streaming subscription service with the most subscribers and is home to some of the best movies available to stream online. While Netflix's selection of acquired movies has waned from its peak, with the streamer opting more and more to focus on their own original content, it still has a number of cinematic classics as well as high-quality originals. Some Netflix original movies have been highlights of the last decade of cinema, making these exclusives almost enough of a reason to subscribe by themselves.
Despite a reduction in available 3rd party movies since its inception, Netflix still plays host to some truly great films, ranging all the way from relatively recent action thrillers to classics from the past to major award winners to films starring notable Oscar-winning cast members. From epics like Lord of the Rings to emotional dramas like Marriage Story to animated greats like The Mitchells vs. The Machines,...

In addition to a lengthy list of acting credits, Chris Evans has his fair share of exes. The 41-year-old actor - who was crowned last year's People's Sexiest Man Alive - has a long history of dating fellow stars that goes back to 2001, when he and Jessica Biel became a couple. The two worked with each other on films like "London" and "Cellular" while they were in a relationship but called it quits in 2006. But Biel isn't the only famous woman Evans has dated.
Evans has had a handful of steady relationships and has also been romantically linked to quite a few Hollywood stars, including Emmy Rossum, Christina Ricci, and Lily James. In 2007, he started an on-again, off-again relationship with actor Minka Kelly until roughly 2015, when the two were spotted together during Labor Day weekend. Evans also dated "Emily in Paris" star Lily Collins, who he started seeing shortly after...

For the sizeable migrant population comprising Indians and Pakistanis, it may not be a homogeneous tradition, though by and large it remains the preferred choice.
At the heart of the story is an enterprising London-based filmmaker Zoe (Lily James), who proposes to make a documentary about Muslims and their obsession with arranged marriages. "Or assisted marriages," as her neighbour and friend Kazim (Shahzad Latif) explains.
