The future in writer/director Thijs Meuwese's sophomore effort Kill Mode is, to put it mildly, bleak.
In 2022, a deadly bacteria has wiped our 31 million people and while a vaccine was quickly developed, not quickly enough to save a huge swath of the population but for the company responsible for the vaccine, "The Sickness" was a huge boom, making The Company all-powerful. Enter David Oscar, a rebel who is tracked down by his former group members for one last mission: to find a cure for the illness and in the process take down the pharmaceutical company responsible for the vaccine - and possibly The Sickness itself.
The film marks Dutch actor Dave Mantel's last role; the actor passed away in 2018.

Back in 2017, I reviewed the world premiere of Molly, an apocalyptic Dutch science fiction film by Thijs Meuwese and Colinda Bongers. I loved the film, especially its makers' no-holds-barred approach and crazy ambitions. Instead of being hampered by a lack of budget, Molly seemed to benefit from it in all the right ways, and the film stood out with the amount of inventivity and audacity which had clearly been put into it. And the good news was that Molly was basically just a try-out for a bigger adventure in that same universe: a full-out action film called Kill Mode. Fast forward a few years, and lo-and-behold: director Thijs Meuwese has actually managed to make it, and it can be seen as a prequel to...

"We're not stealing any treatment, we're gunna steal the cure." Rlje Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie, low budget sci-fi action film titled Kill Mode, the latest from Dutch director Thijs Meuwese (also of Molly previously). Set in a gritty near future in 2031, an ex-freedom fighter reluctantly returns to the fold after discovering a disturbing secret that could bring down the evil pharmaceutical corporation, called The Company, that owns the world. There's a big reveal where the secret isn't a thing, but a person, hint at in this trailer. And then the plot really gets going. The cast features Dave Mantel, Julia Batelaan as Molly, Yasmin Blake, and Cyriel Guds. This looks crazy cool! It has big action scenes, major fights, those mini mech suits, a hover-copter, and more. It doesn't look good, but I also can't say it looks bad either. Here's the first official trailer...

Back in 2015, Dutch directors Colinda Bongers and Thijs Meuwese won a pitching contest at the Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam, and were allowed to advertise their film idea at Fantasia in Canada later that year. Their vision of a post-apocalyptic action film turned out to be so ambitious, that investors were loath to instantly finance it though. Like the Wachowskis had to make Bound before getting the funds for The Matrix, so did Colinda and Thijs first finish a lower-budgeted film to show they had the necessary talent and perseverance. That film became Molly, and as my review shows, I enjoyed that one a lot. Well, lo-and-behold: Molly turned out to be impressive enough to allow Colinda and Thijs to film their original concept,...

I’ve got a trailer here for you to watch for an upcoming Mad Max-inspired indie Dutch film called Molly. You can tell the film was made on a low-budget, but it still looks like it will be a crazy fun post-apocalyptic survival thriller! The cheesy low budget aspect of it just seems to add to the charm. I enjoyed what I saw in this trailer and it’s a film I wouldn’t mind checking out! Heres’ the synopsis:
In a barren landscape ravished by war, Molly (Julia Batelaan), a super-powered young woman, roams the violent post-apocalyptic landscape, armed only with a bow and arrow, to confront the dangers around her. When a sadistic ringmaster who run an underground fight club hears of her supernatural abilities he sends his sociopathic marauders to capture her and make her a star attraction in his cage fights to the death.

"We need that girl." Artsploitation Films has released an official Us trailer for an action thriller indie film titled Molly, which is getting a direct-to-dvd/VOD release this week. I'm surprised we haven't heard about this before? Molly is described as "Mad Max meets Turbo Kid in this electrifying and imaginative tale of one young woman's determined struggle to survive in an inhospitable world." It's a post-apocalyptic survival film, starring Julia Batelaan as the badass heroine Molly. Marauders in this gritty future try to hunt her down and make her to fight in their fighting pit for their entertainment. Also starring Emma de Paauw, Annelies Appelhof, Andre Dongelmans, and Joost Bolt. As cheesy as this all sounds, it actually looks pretty cool. The super low budget look and feel honestly works well with this, and the action looks awesome. Here's the official Us trailer (+ posters) for Colinda Bongers & Thijs Meuwese's Molly,...

Last year at the Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam, I attended the world premiere of a Dutch science fiction film: Molly. To say Dutch science fiction films are rare is an understatement: I need to think long and hard to come up with three others, and then I'm pushing the definition a fair bit already. So I went there out of pure curiosity: what could directors Colinda Bongers and Thijs Meuwese, two newcomers with no budget, have managed to put on film? Thankfully, the answer was: quite a lot, as you can read in my review. Low-budget it is, and some of the accents are execrable, but there is much fun to be had with it, and the outrageous action scenes make you cheer for...

Back in April, the Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam hosted the world premiere of Molly, a post-apocalyptic action thriller by Colinda Bongers and Thijs Meuwese. Cast and crew were present, and a lot of fun was had by all, as it truly is a fun film. In my review I praised the ingenuity of the team making the film, who managed to work wonders with the smallest of budgets. I quote:When the film finally enters its "attack the fortress" phase (no spoiler if you've seen the trailer), there is a shot so ambitious, so accomplished in its execution, that you can't help but wonder: how the hell did they do this?! Remember how impressed we all were when we saw Tony Jaa ascending those spiral...

Thanks to ScreenAnarchy, who unearthed the film from its premier at Imagine 2017, we now know about a scrappy new Dutch post-apocalyptic film from directors Colinda Bongers and Thijs Meuwese called Molly.
The film is decidedly low budget, but Sa's reviewer goes on to say that the film revels levels of ingenuity similar to Turbo Kid, so I am intrigued to the say the least.

Dutch science fiction films are few and far between, so when the Imagine Film Festival announced the world premiere of Molly, I was intrigued to say the least. And indeed, Colinda Bongers and Thijs Meuwese have managed to create a fun post-apocalyptic caper, and even more impressively: they manage to surprise. In Molly, we follow a super-powered woman (the titular Molly), traveling through a wasteland of beaches and dunes, some years after a terrible cataclysm. Humans are sparse in this landscape, and some diseased survivors have regressed to a feral zombie-like state. These are called "supplicants", and gangs of humans capture these for sport. "Dogfights" are even staged, where people can bet on their favorite supplicant. When a gang-leader hears stories about a super-powered girl...
