If you don’t immediately recognize Betsy Sodaro’s face from her countless TV and film appearances, odds are you recognize the voice. Currently stealing scenes as Nancy, a basement-dwelling ghost who died of cholera on CBS’ hit comedy “Ghosts,” Sodaro’s voice packs an extra punch to her already assassin-like skill with a punchline. Simultaneously raspy, yet childlike with a joyful cadence, it’s become so much her signature that in one recent “Ghosts” episode, where Rose McIver (as Samantha) was “possessed” by Nancy and spent an entire episode doing an imitation so uncanny many viewers assumed it was dubbed (it was not.)
Like Morgan Freeman, Sodaro’s voice is so distinctive that it can often proceed recognizing the actor. Yes, that eye mite in the commercial for Xdemvy medication is indeed her. Both she and her characters are prone to outbursts of enthusiasm (“Ooh!”) or disgust (“Ugh!”) that...

It's hard to believe we're already nearing the end of Ghosts Season 4, but with only three episodes left in the season, and the promise of a "jam-packed" finale, anticipation is sky high to see what happens when "The Devil Went Down to Woodstone" arrives on CBS. The episode is set to air on the network on May 8 at 8:30 Pm Et, and according to Rose McIver, who spoke to Collider earlier this year while they were filming the episode, it will feature a "who's who of ghostdom." CBS has confirmed the episode will feature Matt Walsh's Elias and Mary Holland's Patience, and it's likely safe to assume we'll see familiar faces like Betsy Sodaro's Nancy and the other basement ghosts, as well as Odessa A'zion's Stephanie, who's returning for next week's episode as well.

From Jay's (Utkarsh Ambudkar) fun-loving sister Bela (Punam Patel) to crass but loveable basement ghost Nancy (Betsy Sodaro), Ghosts has a handful of recurring characters that can practically guarantee a home run episode. One such character is Hetty's (Rebecca Wisocky) evil ex-husband Elias (Matt Walsh), another Gilded Age ghost who has quite literally been to Hell and back. Introduced in Season 1's "The Vault," Elias is as much a menace at Woodstone in his death as he was in life. With his ghost power allowing him to make living characters horny, there's no shortage of chaos to be had when Elias shows up. In Season 2, he returns in an attempt to get Hetty to free him from Hell by trying to take Pete back with him unless she forgives him for his many, many misdeeds.

Ghosts Season. 4 just celebrated its second major holiday special with an epic double possession. Though much of the episode's emotional weight rests on Utkarsh Ambudkar's shoulders, Rose McIver blows everyone away in the first half of "A Very Arondekar Christmas" with her perfect impression of Betsy Sodaro's Nancy. McIver recently stopped by the latest episode of Collider Ladies Night to unpack the Christmas special and so much more with host Perri Nemiroff. During their wide-ranging conversation, McIver confessed that she had been wanting to work more with Sodaro for quite some time when she received "a text from one of the Joes," referring to series showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, asking if she could do a Nancy impression. She went on to say, "I was like, 'I have no idea. She's so iconic to us, but I'd love to swing the bat.' I mean, there's nobody...

I had to wait until December 19th, but I finally got my greatest belly laugh of 2024 courtesy of Ghosts. In "A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1,” while attempting to fix the water heater, Sam and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) suffer a shock, sparking another possession. Pete (Richie Moriarty) possesses Jay while Rose McIver’s Sam, a certified people-pleaser with a big heart who’s often quite concerned about what others think of her, is possessed by Betsy Sodaro’s Nancy, the super brash Cholera ghost who marches to the beat of her own drum to the fullest. Not only is the idea genius, but McIver and Sodaro’s execution of the concept is brilliant.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Ghosts Season 4, Episodes 8 & 9, “A Very Arondekar Christmas.”] Ghosts has delivered one of its best episodes of the season — perhaps of the series — with Season 4’s “Ghostmas” special, “A Very Arondekar Christmas” Parts 1 and 2. Helping deliver laughs and heartfelt feelings is star Rose McIver as living Woodstone proprietor Sam, who welcomes her husband Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) family for some Christmastime chaos. While viewers have met Jay’s sister Bela (Punam Patel), this extra special episode makes way for the introduction of their parents, Champa (Sakina Jaffrey) and Mahesh (Bernard White). But before Sam has a chance to try and win her in-laws over, a task she’s been working on for years, a broken water heater leaves Jay and Sam both possessed with spirits from the mansion as Pete (Richie Moriarty) and Nancy (Betsy Sodaro) invade their bodies. To say the double possession throws a wrench in their plans would...

A two-part episode, a desperate Sam trying to fit in with Jay’s family, and a double possession. It’s just another day at the Woodstone B&b. See Ghosts star Rose McIver join Gold Derby for a special recap of tonight’s holiday episode titled “A Very Arondekar Christmas,” above.
In this installment of the hit CBS comedy series, a leaky water heater mishap threatens to ruin holiday plans as Sam (McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) prepare to host Jay’s hard-to-please dad (Bernard White) and difficult to impress mom (Sakina Jaffrey). Things are further complicated when Sam is possessed by Nancy (Betsy Sodaro) and Jay by Pete (Richie Moriarty).
“We were given the gift of this episode,” McIver says. “When you have Christmas, you have this overlap of people with different personalities and desires. It’s so intense. On top of that, Sam and Jay are also possessed by Nancy and Pete.

There’s a moment in Thursday night’s Christmas-themed “Ghosts” two-parter where the body of Rose McIver’s character, Sam, is suddenly inhabited by sassy downstairs cholera spirit Nancy (Betsy Sodaro). “Ghosts” requires its stars to participate in all sorts of hijinks on a weekly basis — and in this case, McIver was tasked with imitating Sodaro as Nancy.
“I adore Betsy so much,” McIver tells Variety. “I adore her as a person, as a performer. I’m a huge fan. So I felt very honored that I got to channel a little Nancy, and she was predictably so generous to work with.”
McIver says Sodaro helped her prepare by sharing videos to teach how to play Nancy as a loud-mouthed, inappropriate, over-the-top ghost. “She put these videos down of her saying her dialog and showing me how she would behave,” McIver says. “She was like, ‘I feel like I’m auditioning to play myself.

Night Court, NBC's revival of the classic sitcom, is currently airing its third season. The series follows the workplace shenanigans of the late shift at a Manhattan courthouse. Like the original series before it, Night Court juxtaposes the gritty aesthetic of New York City's grimy late-night underbelly with a colorful cast of cartoonish characters and over-the-top wacky sensibilities.
This week's episode, "The Hole Truth," features the return of Betsy Sodaro as Bert, the courthouse's head janitor. She first appeared in season 1's "Marathon-Thon-Thon-Thon-Thon," and now she gets a bit more depth, including the revelation that she has a pet alligator. Betsy Sodaro has made a name for herself over the years, appearing in a wide variety of projects, from movies like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and An American Pickle, to shows like Ghosts and Exploding Kittens. She even played an alien firearm in the video game, High on Life.

CBS’s Ghosts kicks off its fourth season by picking up the story of Patience, the Puritan ghost who dragged Isaac into the dirt after he called off his wedding in the season three finale. Season four premieres on October 17, 2024, with new episodes airing on Thursdays at 8:30pm Et/Pt.
“[Patience] brings some fun energy. We kind of lean into a little bit sort of, like, a horror trope,” said co-showrunner Joe Wiseman in an interview with TVLine. “She’s meant to be funny but also a little scary. She’s someone who’s sort of out for revenge and has taken one of our characters. So she brings a nice flavor that we haven’t seen a whole lot of at Woodstone.”
Mary Holland will be guest starring in season four as the Puritan ghost who Isaac unintentionally left to wander in the dirt a long time ago.

Ghosts showrunner Joe Wiseman provides season 4 character details that clarify the backstory of Patience (Mary Holland) and her history with Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones). Season 3 of the CBS show, following Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay Arondekar (Utkarsh Ambudkar), along with the many spirits inhabiting their home, concluded in May. During the season finale, Patience appeared in the basement of Woodstone, surprising Isaac and quickly pulling him away.
In a recent interview with EW, Wiseman revealed more information about Patience. He explained that Hollands character was once excluded from her Puritan home and that she resents Isaac for deserting her. He also noted that when the series returns, shes going to sorta mix things up. Read more of Wisemans comments regarding Patience below:
Patience is a Puritan, who traditionally were very judgmental and strict, and she was actually kicked out of her village for being a bit too much so, even by their standards.

Quick Links Kathy Bates Is Great in a Clone of Other Movies Dignified Actors Get Underutilized Saving the Best for Last Great cast and poor execution - Summer Camp fails to fully utilize the talents of Keaton, Bates, Woodard, Levy, and Haysbert in this comedy that feels like many other movies. The film does pick up a bit in the second half, when the plot and characters become a bit more interesting. Kathy Bates and Betsy Sodaro do stand out in the film, making Summer Camp a little funnier and more charming than it should be.
Summer Camp had three great things on its side: Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, and Alfre Woodard, all award-winning actresses who are among the finest of their generation. The chemistry between the cast shines, and Josh Peck is especially great. Summer Camp's comedy falls flat, lacking depth and laughs. Unnecessary side characters detract from main story.
Summer Camp is a comedy about three childhood friends who attempt to reconnect at a summer camp reunion. The film is written and directed by Castille Landon, who spearheaded the last three After films. It also features a great cast, including the talented Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton, and Alfre Woodard playing the trio of friends. While the film does win some laughs, and the third act is noticeably better than the first two, Summer Camp won't be for everyone.

It is a sad state of affairs in Hollywood when you can have such talented actors as Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, but the best you can do is stick them in boomer-baiting forgettable comedic contrivances like Summer Camp, the latest in a long line of movies for Keaton, who also is a producer on it, in which she is cast with female peers of similar age to mix slapschtick with attempted pathos and senior romance. It is the kind of formula you can sell with a simple pitch: Take three beloved septuagenarian Oscar winning and nominated stars and send them back to the summer camp where they bonded as kids. Hilarity and hijinks ensue, along with giving each a later-in-life regret or dead husband to add a bit of drama to the proceedings. Bingo! The mid-week matinees will be sellouts!

It happens to many of us above a certain age. You wake up one day, and realize that your life involves neither your childhood besties, nor the carefree bliss you once took for granted. With that in mind, Castille Landon’s wearisome comedy “Summer Camp” ponders, what if there was a way to awaken our inner child and reestablish our priorities later in life through some fun and play? It’s surely a worthy enough premise for a good time, but one “Summer Camp” squanders through dull jokes, an uninspiring story without any real stakes and an overall phony feeling that the film can’t shake.
Indeed, “Summer Camp” often seems only as authentic as a high-end glamping site, when it unsuccessfully tries to convince the audience that it’s the real deal about the virtues of letting your hair down once in a while — a teaching that the film hammers on,...

May comes to a close with a quieter weekend full of odds and ends and nothing particularly wide in terms of studio releases. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
After a fairly disappointing Memorial Day weekend, the month ends with a number of moderately wide releases. Since most of these new films are smaller, few theater counts have been reported, making it tougher to determine how some of them might perform, though it’s likely that only one will be getting a wide enough release to potentially break into the Top 5. Otherwise, we’re looking at a repeat of the Top 4 with the slightest chance that “The Garfield Movie” might pass “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” with few of the new releases targeting family audiences.
The one movie that has the best chance at cracking the Top 5 would probably be Crunchyroll’s latest Anime feature “Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle,...

"You're too lovable to hate." Awwww. Roadside Attractions has revealed the official trailer for a summer comedy called Summer Camp, hitting theaters at the end of May for everyone to enjoy. Back in the early 2000s this would've been the kind of movie that a studio would've promoted a summer blockbuster, but now it's just a simple release from Roadside. Summer Camp follows Nora, Ginny, and Mary, three childhood best friends who used to spend every summer at a sleep away camp together. After years apart seeing each other less & less, when the opportunity to get back together for a summer camp reunion presents itself, they all seize it and head off for an adventure together. Getting into all kinds of trouble camp trouble, or so it seems! Rafting, zip lines, food fights, and more shenanigans. This stars Diane Keaton as Nora, Kathy Bates as Ginny, and Alfre Woodard as Mary,...

Earlier this month, Roadside Attractions announced that they had acquired distribution rights to the comedy Summer Camp, written and directed by Castille Landon (Perfect Addiction). With a release date of May 31 quickly approaching, Roadside has already revealed the trailer and poster.
Summer Camp tells the story of Nora (Diane Keaton), Ginny (Kathy Bates), and Mary (Alfre Woodard), who have been best friends since being inseparable at summer camp. As the years have passed, they’ve seen each other less and less, so when the chance to reunite for a summer camp reunion arises, they all take it, some begrudgingly and others excitedly.
Each of their lives might not be where they’d imagined, but one thing is for sure — Nora, Ginny, and Mary need each other, and summer camp reminds them why.
In addition to Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, and Alfre Woodard, the cast includes Dennis Haysbert, Eugene Levy, Josh Peck,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Ghosts Season 3, Episode 5, “The Silent Partner.”] Ghosts‘ latest episode, “The Silent Partner,” took time in its final minutes to lay the groundwork for one of the show’s next couples as Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) finally saw arrow-skewered Pete (Richie Moriarty) in a whole new light. After Pete’s wife Carol (Caroline Aaron) died in the Woodstone kitchen during a Halloween shindig, she’s found herself living among the other spirited residents. As she got acclimated to the social climate, she learned more about Pete’s life in Woodstone, and to look less pathetic in her eyes, he begged for someone to pretend to be his girlfriend. (Credit: Bertrand Calmeau/CBS) Ultimately, Alberta stepped up to the plate, feeling bad for her friend, but she tried drawing a line in the sand, saying that this scheme shouldn’t wind up with them falling in love. Pete ultimately cracked under pressure when...

Last week, CBS comedy Ghosts resolved an enormous cliffhanger in its season 3 premiere. Now episode 2, “Man of Your Dreams,” provides the answer to another long standing mystery. Tonight, Sas’ special supernatural power is revealed and it raises some ethical questions as to how he can alter the actions of the living.
“Man of Your Dreams” also serves as the transition point between the shock of the premiere and the plotlines that will dominate the remainder of this third season. Den of Geek spoke to Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman to discover why they chose to reveal Sas’ power and what fans can expect for the rest of this shorter-than-usual season.
“We still have a few big unanswered questions on the series,” Wiseman said. “We don’t know Pete or Hetty’s power, and we also don’t know how a couple of the ghosts died.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 3 premiere of “Ghosts,” titled “The Owl,” which aired Feb. 15 on CBS.
Flower, hopefully you’re finally getting to cuddle a few bears up there in the sky. Yes, you read that right: There’s one less ghost on “Ghosts,” as the characters said farewell to Flower on the Season 3 premiere of CBS’ hit comedy.
The series finally returned on Thursday (after a long strikes-induced delay), and we learned which spirit had been finally sent to the afterlife. After a few fakeouts, the ghosts discovered that it was Flower (Sheila Carrasco) who was “sucked off” in the Season 2 finale, as witnessed by Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar).
Flower is the 1960s-era hippie who died trying to hug a bear while high on acid, and remained a bit forgetful and drugged-out while living in the purgatory that is Woodstone Mansion.

The new Squanch Games Fps High on Life is the latest to come out of the Justin Roiland-led developer. Considering Roiland's involvement in the television sphere - as he's the co-creator of Rick and Morty alongside a storied history with other comedies both in voice acting and writing - it's no surprise that the game's cast contains a slew of well-known names from comedy and beyond. Whether they appear for a moment as a random Npc or long-term as a main character of the game, there are bound to be many voices players recognize throughout High on Life.
While the most prominent roles in the game are arguably all of High on Life's talking guns - which are from a sentient race of weapons called Gatlians - there are many other important characters throughout the story. From the unnamed protagonist's sister to the various strange NPCs encountered throughout the title,...

The talking weapons are a main draw in High on Life, and the game luckily has a large and varied arsenal to choose from.
As expected from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, High on Life is ridiculous and hilarious in equal measure. The first-person shooter sees Earth invaded by an evil alien drug cartel, which plans to use the human race as an intergalactic narcotic. In order to save humanity players must collect a number of sentient weapons called Gatlians and use them to fight off the otherworldly cartel. High on Life features "Metroidvania" elements alongside first-person shooter combat, with new weapons being used to access previously unreachable areas.

The upcoming first-person shooter High on Life is set to be released by Squanch Games later this year, and it looks to be a ridiculously one-of-a-kind experience in the best way. Squanch Games - which was founded by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland - previously produced the well-received Trover Saves the Universe, and has kept the same absurdist sci-fi tone as its last title in High on Life. Screen Rant attended a special hands-on preview event led by Squanch's Chief Creative Officer and Art Director of High on Life Mikey Spano and Community Lead Jordyn Halpern to play through one of the game's missions and learn more about the title.
The ridiculous nature of High on Life shines through immediately with the game's concept: an alien drug cartel called the G3 have discovered humans are the best drug in the universe, and have invaded Earth to harvest it. After an alien confrontation,...
