Sony Pictures Classic has acquired the worldwide rights to the film of the recent Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along.

The revival, which starred Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez, ran on Broadway last season and won four Tony Awards, including best revival of a musical. The filmed version of the Broadway show is set for a theatrical release, according to a spokesperson.

Maria Friedman directed the revival of the Stephen Sondheim show, which tracks the relationships of the three friends in reverse chronological order, spanning several decades and ending with their meeting in college. Groff and Radcliffe received Tony Awards for their roles in the production, as the composer Franklin Shepard and his friend and playwright Charley, which ran at the Hudson Theatre from October 2023 through July 2024.

Speaking to Collider, Reeves opened up about the possibility of a third season of Batman: Caped Crusader. "That is something... I mean there's all kinds of metrics by which that is landed upon. Is “Batman: The Animated Series” the most beloved, well, animated series of the ’90s to not yet receive a reboot? Warner Animation stablemates “Tiny Toon Adventures” and “Animaniacs” have been revived for streamers; when “King of the Hill” comes back (supposedly in 2025), both of Mike Judge’s most popular shows will have made their return; and “The Simpsons” never actually left the air. Now, on the heels of “X-Men ’97” comes “Batman: Caped Crusader” — not an actual continuation of the Warner-produced, Fox-aired Batman saga, but sort of a long-overdue spiritual successor to what many consider the definitive non-comics portrayal of the character. The strongest connection to the previous show: This one is also spearheaded by Bruce Timm, who cocreated the earlier series and remained a dominant force in its development.

This makes “Caped Crusader” both a major event and a potential disappointment; maybe that’s why it’s airing...

Bruce Timm’s Batman: Caped Crusader begins with a group of armed goons getting up to no good in the middle of the night. “There ain’t no freakin’ Batman,” one of them confidently proclaims, only to have the last word cut off by an expertly thrown Batarang. Instead, the show - which was offloaded by Warner Bros. Discovery to Amazon after originally being developed for Max as part of a series of cost-cutting measures - will take us to 1940s Gotham City and "Week Two" of Bruce Wayne's time as Batman.

Talking to Empire Magazine (via Toonado.com), Timm revealed that Batman: Caped Crusader will make a major change to Bruce's transformation into a masked vigilante...specifically in regards to when he chooses to suit up.

Now, Prime Video have given us our first look at the Bat in action with the enigmatic first trailer for the Batman: The Animated Series spiritual successor, which sees Gotham's finest — and worst — all out to get the Dark Knight. The first trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader has been released and the Dark Knight is quickly revealed to be a problem for both Gotham City's underworld and its police department.

They're determined to bring the Dracula-like vigilante to justice and it appears Batman will have to fight a war on two fronts as he sets out to protect his home. This sneak peek highlights many of the villains he'll have to contend with, including Two-Face, Harley Quinn, and a few relatively obscure offerings from the comics.

The 1940s setting seems to fit Batman: Caped Crusader well and, perhaps most importantly, Hamish Linklater sounds the part. Following in the footsteps of an actor like Kevin Conroy is no easy feat, but casting for the Prime Video series appears to be on point.

"I never in a million bajillion years imagined that I would actually get the part," the actor recently admitted.

The Dark Knight returns. Prime Video has debuted the first trailer for “Batman: Caped Crusader,” a new animated series executive produced by “Batman: The Animated Series” co-creator Bruce Timm, as well as J.J. Abrams and “The Batman” director Matt Reeves.

The first footage reveals a brewing gang war in Gotham City, as well as a police campaign to hunt down Batman. The trailer also teases numerous villains from the DC Comics, including the Penguin, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and District Attorney-turned-criminal Harvey Dent. Viewers are also given a preview of Hamish Linklater’s voice performance as the Caped Crusader/Bruce Wayne.

A new animated series following the Dark Knight is soon arriving on Prime Video. Called Batman: Caped Crusader, the animated show has just gotten a new teaser ahead of the full trailer's release.

Set to debut on Prime Video on Aug. 1, Batman: Caped Crusader has been described as a spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series. The new show will bet set in its own universe, putting some unique spins on the different characters from the Dark Knight's Rogues Gallery. The first teaser poster for Prime Video's Batman: Caped Crusader has been released today (via Toonado.com) and it features the show's Dark Knight keeping a watchful eye over 1940s Gotham City.

It's a striking piece of imagery and that's fitting for a take on Batman which draws inspiration from the hero's earliest comic book adventures. With any luck, this means we're getting a teaser trailer sooner rather than later as the long-delayed show's August premiere is fast approaching.

It's been confirmed today (via Vanity Fair) that Batman: Caped Crusader will premiere on Prime Video on August 1. We've also learned that the animated TV show's cast will be headlined by Midnight Mass star Hamish Linklater as the titular Dark Knight.
