HBO is bringing back its most beloved, ultra-rich adult children fighting for their family business. I’m talking, of course, about the Gemstones.
Danny McBride’s absurdist megachurch comedy returns for Season 3 on June 18, as “The Righteous Gemstones” unveiled the first trailer for its next installment. John Goodman also stars as the Gemstone family patriarch, alongside series regulars Cassidy Freeman, Tim Baltz, Tony Cavalero and Walton Goggins. The official Season 3 logline from HBO reads, “When the spoiled Gemstone children finally get their wish to take control of the Church, they discover leadership is harder than they imagined and that their extravagant lifestyle comes with a heavy price.”

IMDb, the Internet Movie Database, is reversing its policy of listing the birth names of transgender individuals on their biographical pages after receiving criticism from the Lgbtq advocacy group GLAAD back in June.
The company will now allow for the removal of a person’s birth name if the name is not “broadly publicly known and the person no longer voluntarily uses their birth name,” according to an IMDb spokesperson. The person or their representative needs to contact IMDb customer support to request a birth name removal, and every occurrence of their name will be removed subject to a review process.
However, IMDb says that if an individual was previously credited on screen under a birth name, the credited name will remain listed in the credits section of the respective IMDb page in parentheses.

Almost every McU hero got their moment in Avengers: Endgame, but with the possible exception of Captain America, the main player in the ensemble epic was undoubtedly Iron Man. And now that Robert Downey Jr. looks to have hung up the suit once and for all, many fans are arguing that it’s time for the star to get some Academy recognition for bringing Tony Stark to the big screen.
In his decades-spanning career, Downey has received two Oscar nominations – once for the 1992 film Chaplin, then again for his supporting turn in 2008’s Tropic Thunder. Funnily enough, in the latter case, Downey was beaten out by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, in one of the rare instances of a comic book movie being nominated in an acting category. Even Black Panther – which received seven nominations, including Best Picture – saw none of its actors recognized at this year’s Academy Awards.

The two shows become two of the first formal cancellations of the season. Both were produced by 20th Century Fox Television, which split from the network after coming under Disney ownership earlier this year.

The Lil Rel Howery-starring comedy Rel will not get a second season at Fox. The network has canceled the comedy series from Jerrod Carmichael, Mike Scully and 20th Century Fox TV, after one season.
Of the other two Fox freshman comedy series, Last Man Standing is fully expected to be renewed while The Cool Kids is heavily on the bubble.
There was a hint at Rel’s fate when Fox last fall opted not to give a back order to the series. (The network ended up trimming the original order from 13 to 12 episodes.) Rel did not take advantage of its post-Family Guy time slot on Sunday. Its first season averaged a modest 0.8 adults 18-49 rating and 2.1 million viewers in Live+7.
The Rel family suffered a tragic loss in January when co-creator/executive producer Kevin Barnett died suddenly while vacationing in Mexico, a little over a week after the season one finale had aired.

The series premiere of Fox’s multi-cam comedy “Rel” rose approximately 10% over its linear debut in the delayed viewing ratings.
Accord to Nielsen Live+3 data, “Rel” grew to a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers, compared to the 1.9 rating and 5.5 million viewers it drew on Sunday. That is Fox’s strongest three-day multi-platform audience since the Season 4 finale of “Empire” in May. With Jerrod Carmichael serving as Ep on Lil Rey Howery’s new Fox series Rel, the question from the TCA corps today was just how political in this new comedy series going to be?
The Carmichael Show pushed boundaries until its ultimate cancellation from NBC; “an uptight network” dinged one reporter in the room.
“During the Barry Diller era, (Fox) really challenged and felt dangerous; there was stuff on there my mom didn’t want me to watch,” said Carmichael, “We want to contribute to that legacy.”
“On The Carmichael Show we built from the argument out,” says that series former Co-ep and current Rel Ep Mike Scully, “Jerrod was like ‘we’re going to do Ferguson’. I was like ‘Wow, when does the family go camping?'”
In Rel, the writing team has been working it from reverse, setting up the situation and layering on the political and social issues later.

Fox has ordered Lil Rel Howery’s self-titled comedy project to series.
“Rel” hails from writer, executive producer and star Howery, as well as writers and executive producers Kevin Barnett and Josh Rabinowitz and executive producer and showrunner Mike Scully. It sees Howery play a prideful, self-made success who lives by the code to “always believe in yourself and great things will come” but finds that attitude gets put to the test when he learns his wife his having an affair with his barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the South Side of Chicago who’s on a quest for love, respect, and a new barber.
