Ashley Risk(I)
Ashley started his filming career in 1996 co-writing the Devils Garden
a horror set in a sleepy English wetland. The film centred on a lake
haunted by an evil spirit with a storyline that blends fact and fiction
into a thrilling conclusion where however many people go in only one
can leave.
Ashley went on to form in 2002 Baseline Films a production company in Hertfordshire making community based films and promoting the work of young filmmakers for Hertfordshire youth service.
This was a brave move as YouTube had only just started and people weren't familiar with the concept of filmmaking on a mass scale, it seems quite alien to most people. Ashley had difficult job in convincing people that it was a good thing, but he was very single-minded that it was and subsequently Baseline films over the last 10 years has received over £755,000 in direct and match funding and to date has a wealth of broadcast quality filming equipment and Mac/PC editing suites. The production company is based at heart's young mariners base and has been a filming location for BBC productions including scenes in Casualty as it has a quarter of a mile of underground caves.
In October 2004 with a reworking of the Devil 's Garden original script filming on location started. There were some minor changes to the original script with the lead male character being replaced with a female lead played by Stephanie Anderson.
The film premiered in 2004 at HYMAC awards movies (HAM's) winning Ashley the best director award.
In 2006 Ashley started to work on a magazine called adventures in sound and vision to inspire young people into filmmaking at the same time he drafted a filmmaking award with AQA (award number: 74797) as a way for people to be recognised for their achievements in filmmaking as there didn't seem to be a recognised national award for basic filmmaking.
In 2007 Ashley joined the EvolutionDL films a production company based in North London making community and feature films. The first of these being the Devil's garden 2: Redemption.
In 2010 Ashley completed a documentary for Westminster Drug Project celebrating their 21st anniversary and cataloguing some of the work of the organisation.
