ReviewDespite the flaws in the script, I hope viewers will take home a deeper understanding of the justice system and that other filmmakers will attempt to emulate Shan’s sensitivity while making movies on systemic violence.TrailerScreengrab Written by Bharathy Singaravel What a relief to see Yogi Babu in a role that doesn’t make a comic element of him, but instead, gives him space to portray a flawed and deeply human character. Bommai Nayagi, by debutant director Shan, attempts to speak about child sexual assault, and how it is interlinked with caste, class, and access to justice. Yogi Babu as Velu, a labourer in a small tea shop, who is the father of nine-year-old Bommai (Sreemathi), brings to life the world-weariness of a man who knows that the system is stacked against people like him. Survival is his priority. To that effect, he thinks that if he keeps his head down,...

KollywoodThis two-minute teaser has been titled Chapter One - Nature is ruthless.Tnm StaffYoutube ScreengrabDirector’s Ram’s Peranbu has created quite a buzz among film circles and has gained a reputation for itself with international film festival premieres. The makers have released the film’s official teaser during the audio launch that took place on Sunday. This two-minute teaser has been titled 'Chapter One - Nature is ruthless'. Amidst a scenic backdrop is a wooden cabin where this scene takes place. Mammootty who plays the father Amudhavan, is seen mimicking his daughter, Paapa’s, physical condition. This scene is almost poetic and manages to leave an impact in a very short time. Amudhavan takes on the role of a narrator who tells his own story, his own thoughts. “All these years I was worried why Paapa is not like other children. But when I tried walking like her I realised comparing one person with another is brutal." This monologue is more powerful than any visuals could hope to produce, giving us a deeper insight into the lives of caretakers, especially parents of children with disabilities. Peranbu is a bilingual film that will release in Tamil and Malayalam. Produced by Pl Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films, the film has an impressive star cast with Anjali, Thanga Meengal Sadhana, Sarath Kumar, Anjali Ameer, Samuthirakani, Vadivukkarasi, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramood, Siddique and Aruldoss. While Ram has collaborated with Yuvan Shankar Raja and Na Muthukumar in the past, Vairamuthu, Karunakaran and Sumathi Ram have penned lyrics for Peranbu’s songs. The duo also fondly recalled working with lyricist Na Muthukumar, who unfortunately passed away in 2016, during the film’s audio launch. I’ve seen the film twice and I liked it a lot. It’s not just for commercial reasons, but also has a good message to it.” He added, “The film is set in the backdrop of Dharavi slum, which is the largest slum in Asia. It deals with characters living inside this slum and tells the story of how it affects people’s lives. Usually in many films, only the hero’s character is of importance and the others may not be as significant. But in Kaala, there are at least six characters that will have a huge impact and will stay with you even after the movie.” Speaking at the same event, the film’s producer and actor Dhanush said that there is one and only one Rajinikanth, adding that it was an honour to work with an actor like him. Rajinikanth also had words of praises for the film’s heroines, Huma Qureshi and Easwari Rao. He lauded both of them for being patient through the filmmaking process and performing well in Kaala. Directed by Pa Ranjith, the film also stars Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Aruldoss, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Aravind Akash and Sayaji Shinde. Santosh Narayanan has composed the music for this action entertainer with G Murali handling the camera and A Sreekar Prasad editing. Interestingly, director Pa Ranjith, superstar Rajinikanth and music composer Santhosh Narayanan had worked together in Kabali and the film was a smash hit. With the trio teaming up for the second time, expectations are very high on Kaala.
