Singer Sukhwinder Singh was offered the song titled ‘Babaji ka ghanta’ from Zeishan Quadri’s Meeruthiya Gangsters. But the singer turned down the offer as he found the title improper. When questioned, director Zeishan Qadri confirmed the same saying, “Yes, he (Sukhwinder) was not cool with the title. We were pursuing him for almost 10-15 days, but then everyday he demanded some change the lyrics. I didn’t want to do that so I let him go.” Nevertheless, Quadri found a perfect substitute for Sukhwinder in Divya Kumar, who recently sung the chartbuster song ‘Jee Karda…’ from Badlapur.
Talking about it, Quadri stated, “Sukhwinder was the first option, but when he turned it down, we approached Divya and he instantly agreed. In fact, he has recorded the song couple of days ago and it has turned out to be really good.”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is editing Zeishan Quadri’s Meeruthiya Gangster. Zeishan is the writer of the Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012) series.
Zeishan, who scripted both the films and acted in the second one, is going to make his directorial debut soon with Meeruthiya Gangster. And Anurag has decided to edit the film himself.
A source reveals, “When Anurag heard about Zeishan’s Meeruthiya Gangster, he made a quick phone call to him and told him he wanted to watch it.”
Anurag, who got to know about Meeruthiya Gangster through a common friend, loved the concept, but felt it needed some cuts.
When asked Zeishan about this, he says, “Anurag sir is my inspiration for getting into direction. I wanted to show him my film once it was ready. In any case, it would have never gone for release without his approval.”

Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 2 | Stoker | Arbitrage | Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters | Caesar Must Die | The Bay | Sleep Tight | Broken City | Trashed | Safe Haven | Hi-So | Michael H. Profession: Director | The Gospel According To Matthew | The Attacks Of 26/11 | Acoustic Routes
Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 2 (18)
(Anurag Kashyap, 2012, Ind) Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Zeishan Quadri, Aditya Kumar, Huma Qureshi. 160 mins
It's over five hours long in all, but there's barely a slack moment in this exhilarating Indian epic as it races through generations of smalltown criminal, industrial and political enmity. Yes, it's violent, but like all great crime stories it's also a vibrant tapestry of family life and modern history, closer to Leone, Coppola or Tarantino than Bollywood.
Stoker (18)
(Park Chan-wook, 2013, Us/UK) Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode. 99 mins
The Oldboy director gives us a sensual, tantalisingly ambiguous thriller, centred on Wasikowska and her shifty smalltown family.
Arbitrage (15)
(Nicholas Jarecki, 2012, Us) Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Brit Marling.

How fitting, in a year that has seen a restored version of Sergio Leone’s embattled, multigenerational gangster epic Once Upon a Time in America, that a new, Leone-influenced masterpiece from India arrives on North American shores. Gangs of Wasseypur, a five-hour, two-part, wildly blood-drenched saga is, without question, one of the must-sees at the Toronto International Film Festival. Director Anurag Kashyap’s work is also – whether taken together, or separately – among 2012’s best.
The first installment opens on a television screen, and a subtitle telling us the soundtrack is “[Popular Indian soap theme music].” The serene scene erupts with gunfire for a remarkably appropriate start; Gangs is, in a sense, one long soap opera, with the occasional glossiness quickly ripped apart by bullets. The gunfight is kinetic and explosive, and completely chaotic; we have no sense of who is who, who is “good” or “bad,” or why any of this is occurring. Confused? Don...

Part 1 of director Anurag Kashyap’s sprawling family saga of power and revenge did two very important things: it introduced the character of Faizal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), and it left me with a definite appetite to see Part 2. I had the chance to do just that a screening held in advance of the presentation of both parts at Tiff 2012.
Part 2 begins where Part 1 left off, with the death of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai). Part 2 sees his eldest son, Danish (Vineet Kumar), begin to take over the reins, and exact punishment for his father’s assassination, but he soon is taken down by Sultan Qureshi (Pankaj Tripathi). Thus it falls to the perpetually stoned Faizal to step up and exact revenge – a role that no one, not even his mother Nagma (“Look at your eyes, dead with drugs,” she tells him), feels he is fit for.
And it’s true – the days pass,...
