Eliud Garcia Kauffman was born in Monterrey, Mexico. Both his mother, Guadalupe Garcia Valdes (a homemaker) and his father, Enrique Kauffman Salinas (a welding contractor with oil refineries in Texas) were natives of Mexico. Eliud's paternal great grandfather emigrated to Mexico from Hamburg, Germany. His mother's family was of Spanish descent. Eliud was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. Before pursuing acting full time, Eliud had a successful career in the advertising industry focusing on US Hispanic and Latin American markets. He started acting in his high school drama program and attended Princeton University, the first in his family to graduate college. He also completed the Acting Conservatory Program at T. Schreiber Studio in New York.
The birth of his twins inspired Eliud to pursue his passion for acting full time. He wanted to be an example to his twins to pursue their passions and dreams. Once he started acting full time, his first TV role came quickly on Law and Order SVU, and this was followed with roles on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, NBC's Blacklist, CBS' Blue Bloods, STARZ Flesh and Bone. and most recently CBS' FBI. His big break in movies came with the Roberto Duran biopic Hands of Stone starring Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez and Ana de Armas. He booked the role of Duran's father Margarito Duran off his audition tape. He'll be eternally grateful to the great casting director Amanda Mackey for the safe space she provided in that audition room, to director Jonathan Jakubowicz for trusting him with the role and to Edgar Ramirez for his generosity as his on screen son. Since then, he has had the privilege of working with extraordinary talent in films such as The Intern (alongside Robert De Niro), Bel Canto (with Julianne Moore), the Mexican thriller Sin Fondo (alongside Manuel Masalva), From Nowhere with Julianne Nicholson and Denis O'Hare (Audience Award at SXSW), Lloro (Best Actor in Leading Role Nomination at the New York International Film Festival). He also loves working on stage most recently in Roundabout Theatre's Off Broadway production of 72 Miles to Go.
Eliud has twins, son and daughter with his spouse of more than 20 years. He loves international travel, cooking and cycling.
