It is almost impossible to not know who Colleen Hoover is, considering that her name has been and continues to be all over the internet in connection to the Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively lawsuit after the release of their movie, It Ends With Us, based on Hoover's novel of the same name. Colleen Hover is arguably the most famous author on Booktok and Wattpad, feeding fans and avid readers with romance. Admired for her ability to bring captivating stories to paper, Hoover’s name has been connected to controversies, nonetheless.
However, it seems that, despite the It Ends With Us controversy, it didn’t end there for Colleen Hoover. She seemingly can’t be stopped, not even when one of the biggest lawsuits in Hollywood is connected to her name to some extent. The Booktok sensation certainly isn’t leaving the spotlight, as she has three other projects already in the starting blocks.

Written and directed by Amy Wang, the co-creator of the short-lived Michelle Yeoh Netflix series The Brothers Sun and writer of the upcoming Crazy Rich Asians sequel, Slanted is the type of high-concept genre picture that had the potential to either be great or a total flop. Playing like a mix of Get Out and The Substance, Slanted is a smart, funny, and surprisingly emotional satire despite its occasional adherence to formula.
Slanted Review
Slanted follows an Asian-Amerian teenager who decides to take drastic measures to become popular and win the title of prom queen: she gets an experimental surgery that changes her appearance to make her look white. Blending body horror with fish-out-of-water comedy and high school teen drama, Slanted hits a lot of familiar tropes, but in a way that doesn’t quite feel derivative.

Scream 7 started filming at the start of January, and we’ve seen some surprising reports about the slasher sequel as it has made its way through production – with the most surprising and strange news being that Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostface killers who were killed off in Scream (1996) and Scream 3, respectively, and David Arquette, whose beloved character Dewey lost his life in Scream (2022), are all in the cast. During an appearance on Good Morning America, Foley admitted that, like many Scream fans, he isn’t sure how his return actually works.
Foley said, with thanks to Deadline for the transcription, “I don’t know how it works out. Spoiler alert! 25 years ago I was the killer in Scream 3 and he was brutally taken to town and killed. And now I’m back in Scream 7 and I’m not sure how it’s going to work.

If high school is a popularity contest — the mistaken-priorities assumption that drives writer-director Amy Wang’s SXSW-winning assimilation satire “Slanted” — then Chinese American senior Joan Huang (Shirley Chen) could be justified in ditching her heritage for a shot at being crowned prom queen. That’s the devil’s bargain Wang entertains in a provocative comedy-cum-thought-experiment that veers hard into “The Substance” territory when Joan agrees to a radical racial overhaul so thorough, Wang substitutes a different actor (Mckenna Grace) as her new persona for the rest of the movie.
Staring tricky identity issues in the face, “Slanted” draws from Wang’s upbringing as it identifies the social pressures that might drive Joan to go the Michael Jackson route. The pop star is never named, but is by far the most visible example of someone who resculpted himself according to prevailing beauty standards.
From the moment 8-year-old Joan arrives in the U.

Scream 3's infamous Ghostface resoundingly met his maker at the hands of Neve Campbell and company in the classic 2000 film, so it came as a surprise to many horror fans when the news broke that Scott Foley would return for director Kevin Williamson’s Scream 7. In fact, Foley himself is as confused as the fandom is when it comes to how his character, Roman Bridger, will return from the dead.

The 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, which concludes on Saturday, featured a time-traveling Rv, a disemboweling unicorn, a transracial surgery and credible testimony that extra-terrestrials exist. Here’s what rose to the top, and what failed to take flight.
Homicidal Unicorns and a Singing Matthew McConaughey Stole the Show
SXSW has distinguished itself among the top film festivals with its Headliners section, a lineup of star-driven, studio-backed, crowd-pleasing premieres that thrill SXSW audiences and help launch the films into their wide releases — from “Bridesmaids,” “21 Jump Street,” and “A Quiet Place” to “Us,” “John Wick 4” and “The Idea of You.”
This year, only one Headliner fully fit the bill: The gory horror comedy “Death of a Unicorn,” starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, had the audience laughing, screaming and cheering along with its story of a pair of homicidal fantasy creatures dispatching a über-wealthy family in the Canadian wilderness.

"Yeah, my character — spoiler alert — 25 years ago, I was the killer in Scream 3. He was brutally taken to town and killed. Now I'm back in Scream 7, and I'm not sure how it's going to work."
When Foley's Scream 7 casting was first announced, his role was being kept under wraps, leading to some initial...

In his acidic 1931 satire, Black No More, the writer George Schuyler imagines a world where Black people can undergo an experimental surgery to become white. The depigmentation procedure, invented by an oily scientist, becomes extremely popular. People are eager to escape discrimination and reap the benefits of whiteness. The novel tested theories about assimilation and the color line. If everyone was of the same race, racism and its attendant violence would be eliminated, right?
I couldn’t stop thinking of Schuyler’s novel while watching Amy Wang’s assured directorial debut Slanted. The film, which premiered at SXSW and won the narrative feature competition, has a similar premise. It follows Joan Huang (Shirley Chen of Sundance darling Didi), a Chinese-American teenager desperate to be prom queen. She lives in a kind of Anywhere, U.S.A., a surrealist version of Main Street cleverly conjured by Wang and her production designer Ying-Te Julie Chen.

Shifting the attention from starry premieres at Austin’s Paramount Theatre to the independent film and TV projects that make up the majority of its lineup, the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival has announced the jury awards for its 2025 edition.
Amy Wang’s “Slanted” won the narrative feature competition, rewarding the tonal and thematic audacity of a high school comedy with boundary-pushing “The Substance” vibes. Wang, who also wrote the upcoming “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel, challenges beauty standards in a culture that idealizes whiteness, imagining a Chinese American teen (Shirley Chen) so desperate to be elected prom queen that she undergoes a radical identity-reconstruction procedure (she’s played by Mckenna Grace post-operation). The insecure teen immediately enjoys the perks of white privilege, but isn’t at all prepared for the downsides.

There was something strange in the neighborhood tonight on The Masked Singer, but the Group B contestants ain't afraid of no ghost! On "Ghostbusters Night," panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora transformed into ghost busting detectives along with an iconic visit from an original Ghostbuster, Ernie Hudson.
During the summer of 1984 this comedy classic became the number one movie of the year and since then, its legacy has lived on and permeated pop culture with countless cartoons, films, and merchandise. Group B brought the house down with amazing performances before one iconic celebrity revealed themselves in the all-new "Ghostbusters Night" episode of The Masked Singer that aired Wednesday, March 12 (8 p.m. Et/Pt) on Fox.

It’s Wednesday night, and you know what that means. Another celebrity had to go home on The Masked Singer season 13, episode 5.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for The Masked Singer season 13, episode 5.
It was Ghostbusters Night on the series, and that meant a few Ghostbusters and scary clues. Mckenna Grace and Ernie Hudson both made some guest appearances — one of them in person — to deliver some clues for the remaining four Group B singers.
There were a few clues that helped to cement a couple of ideas. I’m sticking with my theory that James Van Der Beek is Griffin, based on Mckenna Grace saying she co-starred with the person under the mask and that he was a great dad on the set. Grace played Van Der Beek’s daughter in CSI: Cyber.
I also fully agree with Rita and Jenny that it’s Flavor Flav under the Space Ranger mask.

Griffin made his debut on the March 5 episode of The Masked Singer Season 13 as a member of Group B. The mythical creature's first song on Fox's reality TV show was "Rewrite the Stars" by Zac Efron & Zendaya, and he had the four panelists guessing such famous names as Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr., and David Arquette. In Week 2, he belted out "Disturbia" by Rihanna and they added Freddie Prinze Jr., Jason Segel, and Robert Pattinson to the list of potential celebs.
But who is Griffin? If you're looking for The Masked Singer spoilers and clues, you've come to the right place! Read on for everything to know about Griffin, including which famous celebrity we think is hiding underneath the mask.

There’s no shortage of big ideas on offer in Amy Wang’s feature directorial debut, “Slanted,” but like the tragic heroine at its center, this ambitious outing might have fared better had Wang more keenly considered the overall package that holds it together. Often styled as a satire — with generous shades of both “Mean Girls” and “Bottoms” to boot — Wang’s film is far more sad and strange than all of that. Mostly, it’s a sort of blunt-force spin on “The Substance” that never quite allows itself to go past those references into something more honest and, frankly, more terrifying.
Despite all those references — and even a few scenes that do more than just nod to such films — Wang’s film does tout an original and compelling idea. The filmmaker’s take on body horror transplants the genre into the hellscape of high school, perhaps the only setting...

Ghostface will have his/her choice of characters to question about their favorite scary movies when Scream 7 finally hits theaters in February 2026. Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers are the only two living survivors from director Wes Craven’s 1996 film returning. However, Woodsboro’s masked serial killer will come up against plenty of new blood, too, including the film's newest addition, Landman and 1923’sfan-favorite star, Michelle Randolph.
It’s unclear who Randolph will portray in the latest Scream installment, but she will be rubbing elbows with some of the horror franchise’s crème de la crème. In addition to Campbell and Cox, several other actors from earlier entries are returning for another go-round with Ghostface — even though their respective characters are presumably dead — more on that shortly.
Randolph currently portrays Jack Dutton’s (Darren Mann) wife, Elizabeth Strafford, in 1923, which is the immensely popular...

The cast of the upcoming horror sequel Scream 7 continues to grow. Now, another two names have been revealed as franchise newcomers for the movie.
Per Deadline, it's been announced that Scream 7 has recruited Michelle Randolph (Landman) and Jimmy Tatro (The Real Bros of Simi Valley). Details about their roles have not been disclosed, but either one could potentially be playing the next person to be unmasked as a Ghostface killer, given how that changes with each installment. They could also just as easily be playing two more victims of the Ghostface killer. In any case, all fans can do at this time is speculate with no additional information known about the roles.
Randolph is best known for her breakout role in Landman, the Paramount+ series in which she plays the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton's character. She also has a role in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923. Scream 7...

Scream 7 is well into production, but that doesn’t mean a couple more potential victims (or killers) can’t be added to the cast, as Deadline reports that Michelle Randolph and Jimmy Tatro have signed on.
Randolph has been making big waves as the breakout star of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, where she plays the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton’s character. She also has a main role in another Sheridan series, 1923. As for Tatro, he’s best known for American Vandal, The Real Bros of Simi Valley, and starring alongside Topher Grace in Home Economics.
The cast of Scream 7 is pretty packed, including plenty of characters from across the franchise. After sitting out the last movie due to a pay dispute, Neve Campbell returns to star as Sidney Prescott. Courteney Cox is also back as Gale Weathers, as is David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Deadline reports that David Arquette is set to return as former police deputy Dewey Riley in the seventh Scream movie... despite being pretty soundly murdered by Mikey Madison's Ghostface in the fifth instalment.
Dewey is just the latest character to be "resurrected" for the next film in the classic slasher franchise, although he is the first not to have terrorized our protagonists as Ghostface.
Earlier this year, the trades reported on a couple of casting additions that left fans scratching their heads. We learned that one of the two Og Ghostfaces, Matthew Lillard's Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher, would return for the next film despite being killed-off in the first Scream after being stabbed several times and having a TV dropped on his head. Then, reports came in that Scott Foley would also be back as Scream 3's Ghostface Roman Bridger - also definitively dispatched.

Since 1996, the Scream series has transformed slasher horror movies through its witty meta-commentary methods and creative storytelling techniques. All Scream films developed some new elements that began with Wes Craven’s 1996 origin story.
Six successful entries have formed the foundation for the upcoming seventh installment. However, Scream 7 has brought some major changes to its core series since the last installment through casting adjustments and a new creative direction.

Scream 7will somehow bring someone else back from the dead, and it's a name that will please fans...although confusion is bound to be in play regarding how this character returns. With the recent cast additions of Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard, two Ghostface killers who met their demise long ago, at least this return is someone on the side of good.

David Arquette will return as Dewey Riley in writer-director Kevin Williamson’s meta horror sequel, Scream 7.
Nb: The following contains spoilers for Scream (1996) and Scream 5 (2022).
Following a pre-production phase we’ll describe as ‘eventful’, meta horror sequel Scream 7 is currently filming. Meanwhile, another familiar name has been added to the cast: David Arquette, Variety reports, is to reprise his role as Woodsboro deputy sheriff, Dewey Riley.
Arquette isn’t the only actor from Scream past to make a surprise reappearance in the sequel. In January, not long after cameras began rolling on writer-director Kevin Williamson’s seventh entry, Matthew Lillard was said to be coming back as Stu. They’ll join series regulars Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox among the cast, which also includes Mckenna Grace, Scott Foley, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

Something strange — well, stranger than the usual Ghostface stabby-stabby antics — is going on in Woodsboro. As production ramps up on Kevin Williamson's upcoming Scream 7, the last few weeks have seen both Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher and Scott Foley's Roman Bridger confirmed to be making a comeback in the slasher saga's seventh instalment, despite both having been pretty clearly killed off when we saw them last. And now, per Deadline's reporting, we're getting word that David Arquette's fan favourite Deputy Dewey Riley is returning to the fray too as the horror franchise continues to bring back its dead.

David Arquette will reprise his role as Dewey Riley in Scream 7, despite the character’s death in Scream (2022). He joins Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, both of whom also played characters previously killed in the franchise. The decision adds intrigue to the latest installment, though details on how these characters return remain undisclosed.
Arquette first portrayed Dewey in Scream (1996), playing the well-intentioned deputy sheriff of Woodsboro. Over the years, he became a survivor of multiple Ghostface attacks and a central figure in the franchise. His relationship with journalist Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, was a key part of the series until Dewey was killed in the fifth film by Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison). The character’s demise was met with mixed reactions from longtime fans. Cox previously commented on the decision, saying, “Dewey is so loved by Scream fans. They have to figure it out.”
Lillard and Foley’s return raises further questions.

The theories about Scream 7 potentially becoming a super-meta New Nightmare-esque entry in the slasher franchise are starting to sound more and more likely. That, or Sidney Prescott being hounded by AI and deepfakes. Why do I say that? Because David Arquette has just joined the cast of Scream 7 as none other than Deputy Dewey Riley, a previous main character in the film series who was violently killed off in the fifth Scream.
Dewey's return is just the latest of several dead characters coming back for Scream 7, which will see original scribe Kevin Williamson direct a Scream film for the first time. Woodsboro’s favorite deputy sheriff is back in town: David Arquette will officially reprise his role as Dewey Riley from the first five “Scream” movies in the upcoming seventh installment of the horror franchise.
It’s not yet clear exactly how this is possible, as Dewey was vicously stabbed to death in the fifth film, “Scream” (2022), by Ghostface (later revealed to be Mikey Madison’s Amber Freeman). But he isn’t the only miraculous resurrection in the “Scream” universe: Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard are also set to revive their now-deceased characters in Spyglass and Paramount Pictures’ “Scream 7.”

Along with Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, Arquette was a member of the original cast who appeared in every Scream movie until he was surprisingly killed off in the fifth movie. We all saw it coming, but that doesn't mean we wanted it to be true. Two-time Golden Globe nominee Patrick Dempsey has confirmed that he will not be reprising his role as Homicide Detective Mark Kincaid in the long-awaited Scream 7. This news comes only a few months after learning that Joel McHale joined the cast as Sidney Prescott's husband, Mark Evans.
If you remember from Scream 3, Sidney and Kincaid shared a budding romance, with much of their relationship development happening off-screen. In Scream (2022), it seemed like Sidney and Kincaid were still together, even married, when Dewey Riley mentioned Sidney's marriage to a man named Mark. However, it turns out that the "Mark" Dewey referred to was actually Mark Evans since that's who Sidney's husband is in the upcoming seventh installment.
After learning that McHale would be playing Sidney's husband, it was pretty much a given that Dempsey wouldn't be coming back.

It has been established in the Scream franchise that heroine Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is married to a man named Mark, who viewers will be introduced to in the currently-filming Scream 7. Most fans assumed that her husband was Mark Kincaid, a character she met in Scream 3, where he was played by Patrick Dempsey. But Scream 7 has been filming since the start of January, and Dempsey is not in the movie. Instead, this film will reveal that Sidney’s husband is Mark Evans, played by Joel McHale (Community). Now, Dempsey has confirmed to Variety that he was in talks to reprise the role of Mark Kincaid in the new Scream sequel, but the scheduling didn’t work out.
Dempsey told Variety, “It just didn’t work out and we were dealing with the fires and everything that was going on and the schedule didn’t work out, unfortunately.
