If you're an "X-Men" fan, you should be listening to the "Cerebro" podcast. The host, literary agent/"X-Men" historian Connor Goldsmith, and a guest (usually an "X-Men" writer or fan of some repute) discuss a chosen character — both their history and why they resonate.
The 101st episode of "Cerebro" (released May 2023) featured comic writer Jonathan Hickman, who relaunched the X-Men comics alongside artist Pepe Larraz in 2019 with intersecting miniseries "House of X" & "Powers of X" (the latter pronounced like the number 10). For the episode, they discuss En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse, the most infamous X-Men antagonist not named Magneto.
Writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson "Butch" Guice created Apocalypse in 1986 as the shadowy villain for their book "X-Factor." He was revealed to be an immortal mutant, possibly the very first one. Born in Ancient Egypt, Apocalypse has shaped the curve of history to Herbert Spencer's survival of the fittest ethos.

Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Irish rights to “Unicorns,” the romance drama co-directed by BAFTA nominee Sally El Hosaini (“The Swimmers”) and her long-standing collaborator James Krishna Floyd, who starred in both “The Swimmers” and her directorial debut “My Brother the Devil.”
From a script written by Floyd, “Unicorns” is described as a “visually daring and heartfelt portrayal of modern masculinity” and follows a queer South Asian club performer living a double life who meets a straight, single-father mechanic, with whom unexpected sparks begin to fly. The film stars Ben Hardy (“Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Love at First Sight”), newcomer Jason Patel, Nisha Nayar (“Buddha of Suburbia”), Hannah Onslow (“Empire of Light”) and Sagar Radia (“Industry”).
“We are thrilled to have Signature bring ‘Unicorns’ to U.K. and Irish cinemas where we know audiences will enjoy our unique, timely, but above all entertaining film,” said El-Hosaini and Floyd.

“Unicorns” explores a world not seen much in feature films — the world of “gaysians,” the South Asian gay community in the U.K. The film, directed by Sally El Hosaini (“The Swimmers”) and James Krishna Floyd and written by Floyd, follows Aysha/Ashiq (charismatic newcomer Jason Patel) a queer, Muslim, South Asian drag queen living a double life who sparks a friendship then romance with white, straight mechanic and single father Luke. The film bowed to rave reviews at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales at AFM.
“Unicorns” is El Hosaini and Floyd’s third collaboration.
“I think mainstream society is very good at lumping very reductive identity labels on all of us. Obviously, in terms of sexuality, but I think in terms of everything in terms of race and gender and I’ve always felt that these things are very gray and very fluid.

Is Love at First Sight Renewed for Part 2 or not? Let’s find out the details you need to know about the Netflix movie.
Netflix’s own romance drama, ‘Love at First Sight’ follows the story of Yale-based Oliver and NYU-based Hadley – the latter missing her flight to London to attend her father’s second marriage, by just four minutes only to meet Oliver.
It might have been fate – but for Oliver, who hated surprises, it was all about numbers and statistics. However, when the chance encounter made him cross paths with Hadley, he was forced to reconsider his fervent ideology.
Directed by Vanessa Caswill, the movie takes place over a duration of 24 hours – and in this period, the duo lose and find each other several times before coming to the conclusion that they want to be together.

Chris Pratt and Arnold Schwarzenegger seem like an unusual couple. Fans have had the opportunity to witness the two stars together owing to the bodybuilder’s daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger.
While most individuals would be terrified by marrying into the family, Pratt seemed to enjoy both the experience and the people.
Fans were divided, but the couple, along with their parents, appeared to be happier than ever. In fact, the Schwarzeneggers recently surprised their Malibu admirers by attending a small dinner party. Chris Pratt, the gang’s son-in-law, was on hand to celebrate the joyous occasion.
Patrick Schwarzenegger turned 30 last week, and he was joined by his family, especially brother-in-law Chris Pratt. On Monday night in Malibu, California, the family was photographed out for dinner at the upscale sushi restaurant Nobu.

One Piece held onto the treasured top spot among Netflix’s English-language TV series for the week of September 11 to 17.
Monkey D. Luffy and his crew charmed their way to another 10M views, the same week that the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga was renewed for a second season. The series has now tallied about 48M views since it launched on Netflix just under three weeks ago.
But it was the new romantic comedy film Love At First Sight that was the most-viewed title of the week. The film starring Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy soared to the top of the English Films List in its debut week with 14.1M views.
Adam Sandler’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah was No. 2 on the list, keeping up its four-week streak on the Top 10 with another 4.6M views.

“One Piece” continues to dominate the competition on the English-language TV chart during the Sept. 11-17 viewing window on the Netflix Top 10 chart. After recently scoring a Season 2 pickup, the show gained another 10 million total views in its second full week of availability.
In its first four days of availability, the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga quickly sailed to the top of Netflix’s top 10 chart with 18.5 million total views. During the Aug. 28-Sept. 3 viewing window, the series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, and debuted at No. 1 in 46 with 140.1 million hours viewed. During the Sept. 4-10 viewing window, the show raked in another 19.2 million total views and was the most-viewed title of the week. While it’s not an exact comparison (Netflix only calculated viewing hours at the time), “Cowboy Bebop” — Netflix’s 2021 live-action adaptation based on the anime series of the same name, which was canceled after one season — opened at No.

Warner Bros. Discovery is projecting huge losses from the impact of writer and actor strikes, but “Barbie” is still around to help them pay bills. It’s hardly news that as Greta Gerwig’s smash hit starts its initial post-theater platform release, it’s #1 on PVOD charts. The real story: that it’s doing so with a hefty premium price.
Gerwig’s #1 theatrical hit worldwide for 2023 (which will end up with around $1.5 billion in theatrical returns) is now renting on PVOD for $24.99, with the option to add it to your digital library permanently for $29.99. Studios recover 80 percent from revenues returned for these transactions, less a small slice for the carrier. That means Warner Bros. Discovery will recoup around $20 for each “Barbie” rental, $25 for each download. It’s a bonanza.
As always, how much actual money is involved with these transactions is not known, but if five million domestic homes rent the film,...

Ben Hardy is one of the most handsome and popular actors in Hollywood at the moment, the 32-year-old started his career back in 2012 with theatre shows in different theatres in London.
Ben’s actual rise as a prominent actor came in 2013 when he got a role in the popular British television soap opera EastEnders with a character named Peter Beale, he worked in the TV series for a little less than two years and became a fan favorite during this time.
After his exit, Ben signed his first Hollywood film titled X-Men: Apocalypse, and it went on to become one of the most successful movies of the year 2016 generating over 540 million dollars.
After getting success on his debut, Ben started getting offers from Hollywood and he has been part of a movie every year since 2016, some of his popular works include Bohemian Rhapsody, 6 Underground, Pixie, The Voyeurs, and many more.

Fate has woven something extraordinary to bring Oliver and Hadley together. Love at First Sight is the newest addition to Netflix‘s massive store of humorous rom-com flicks, which are not often highly touching but are meant mainly for lighter pleasure.
Despite the plot’s predictability, the characters in Love at First Sight are entertaining to watch, and Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy’s believable performances make the film a worthwhile viewing.

Much like its characters Hadley and Oliver’s relationship, the final shot of Netflix’s “Love at First Sight” — adapted from Jennifer E. Smith’s best-selling novel — came about by chance, but Smith loves the twist on her book’s ending that closes out the film.
Vanessa Caswill directed Katie Lovejoy’s screenplay for “Love at First Sight,” which brings Hadley Sullivan (Hayley Lu Richardson) and Oliver Jones (Ben Hardy) together in a twist of fate when Hadley misses her flight by just four minutes. Luckily for Hadley, who usually runs late with a barely-charged phone, her departure disaster connects her with Oliver, with whom she shares the next flight to London. By the time their plane lands at Heathrow Airport, the pair have fallen in love.

Let me put it this way: Netflix’s latest rom-com, Love at First Sight, took my 4/10 kind of day to a solid 6.5/10. That is me basically saying that the film, which I started watching only for work with less than the bare minimum expectation, made me feel good. There is a severe lack of good romantic comedies these days, which is particularly sad given the chaotic, misery-filled world we live in demands feel-good distractions. And the ones that Netflix churns out every now and then are mostly atrocities in the name of cinema. That is why I would compare coming across Love at First Sight to finding a needle in the haystack.
Amongst the movie genres, romantic comedy is probably the one that is sneered at the most by “Cinephiles.” This doesn’t make any sense to me, considering I have always been an admirer of both Richard Curtis and John Carney.

Netflix’s movie selection will make this a September to remember. From an abundance of romantic comedies and dramedies arriving on the streamer this month to fun-loving animation that tells heartfelt stories, there is no shortage of stream-worthy content as the colder months approach. While fall technically does not start until Sept. 21, this list may or may not supply some watch suggestions for pumpkin spice season.

In “Unicorns”, directed by Sally El Hosaini and James Krishna Floyd, Patel plays a femme drag queen engaging in a relationship with Luke, played by Hardy, a hardworking single father who begins exploring his identity.

On the way home after a party-ending brawl, Aysha (Jason Patel) explains to Luke (Ben Hardy) the torrid love triangle that precipitated the fight in the first place. It sounds complicated, Luke remarks, but Aysha counters that it’s actually pretty simple: “Everybody just wants what they can’t have.”
Despite her breezy delivery, the statement seems to hang in the air between them. Because by this point, both Luke and Aysha already know on some level what they want. They just have to allow themselves to have it. Unicorns traces their twin journeys toward self-acceptance with empathy, curiosity and a refreshing disregard for constricting labels.
What stands between the central pair is not a lack of desire, but a clash of identities. Luke is a straight white single dad from Essex who scrapes together a modest living as a mechanic; Aysha is a professional drag queen from Manchester hiding...

Welsh-Egyptian director Sally El Hosaini had the opening night film at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival with “The Swimmers,” a Netflix drama about two would-be Olympic swimmers fleeing Syria for a chance to compete in Europe. She’s back at the festival a year later with “Unicorns,” codirected with James Krishna Floyd. It’s a quieter, less rousing drama that in some ways couldn’t be further from “The Swimmers,” but in other ways shares that earlier film’s determination to find moments of happiness and celebration in the midst of struggle.
“Unicorns” is a work designed to bring empathy for its two lead characters, a scruffy auto mechanic trying to raise a young son by himself and a British-Asian drag queen looking for moments of release in a life of hardship. At times it finds El Hosaini holding beats for too long, as she also did in “The Swimmers,...

It’s the new film co-directed by Sally El Hosaini (My Brother the Devil) and James Krishna Floyd (The Good Karma Hospital), and they took measures to ensure that the relationship Hardy and Patel depict in the movie, which has its world premiere Friday at TIFF, was fresh.
“All of our prep was separate,” Patel confirmed. “They didn’t want us to meet.”

For years, we’ve heard that the rom-com is dead, and no one is paying to see those movies—generally mid-sized budget films—in theaters. And that could be true, but the success metrics on streaming sites are obviously different, and the romantic comedy has been thriving on streaming, arguably very specifically on Netflix, which has given a home to this genre in recent years. Haley Lu Richardson is opening up about auditioning for Marvel and how “overwhelming” it was for The White Lotus star the time she tried to enter the superhero world.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star of The Edge of Seventeen recalled doing a screen test for a Marvel project that she ultimately didn’t end up booking.
“I did do a big screen test for a Marvel character, and there was like real cameras there, and they did our hair, and makeup, and stuff,” she said (via Comic Book). “But they just directed us in what kind of street clothes to wear, like what colors and stuff. We didn’t actually get in a superhero costume.”
Richardson added, “But yeah, it’s just so overwhelming, because you’re just committing to something, and you haven’t even seen a script.”

Michael Bay may be known for his onscreen explosions, but one behind-the-scenes action sequence on a Bay-helmed set may be putting the director in court.
The “Transformers” director is currently facing charges in Italy related to killing a homing pigeon during the 2018 production of Netflix film “6 Underground” in Rome. The Wrap reported that Bay has made several attempts to clear his name with Italian authorities and has repeatedly denied the charges.
“I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist,” Bay said in a statement to the outlet. “No animal involved in the production was injured or harmed. Or on any other production I’ve worked on in the past 30 years.”
Bay continued, “We have clear video evidence, a multitude of witnesses, and safety officers that exonerates us from these claims. And disproves their one paparazzi photo — which gives a false story.”
He added, “I was offered by...
