The shark thriller film “Zipline” has launched sales with a cast that includes Ioan Gruffudd, Ross Butler, Holland Roden and Sonia Ammar.

The feature is written by George Mahaffey Jr. and directed by Magnus Martens. Simple House Films is producing, marking the debut project under that production banner. Black Bear owns the international rights to the film.

Denzel Washington’s “The Equalizer 3” is showing some box office virtuosity, taking flight in its domestic debut after grossing $13.1 million on opening day from 3,241 venues. That includes $3.8 million in Thursday previews, boosted by showtimes in premium large format auditoriums.

The third and ostensibly final entry in Sony’s action series is gunning for the second-highest Labor Day weekend opening in history. The holiday isn’t typically a boon for box office, though Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” set a record two years ago with a $94.6 million four-day opening. “Equalizer 3” won’t reach those heights, but it’s contending against the runner-up for the record — Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” remake, which stabbed into $30 million in 2007. A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re not looking very far back into the past at all. In fact, we only have to go back a year and a half. The movie we’re covering in this episode is the 2022 Scream sequel (watch it Here). You can hear all about it in the embed above!

The first four Scream movies were directed by the legendary Wes Craven, who unfortunately passed away in 2015. For the 2022 Scream, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett took the helm, working from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The film has the following synopsis: Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, California, a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

Fans of The Equalizer movies are in for a treat as the third and final installment of the action-packed trilogy is set to hit the theaters on September 1, 2023. Denzel Washington is stepping into some familiar shoes for his new project. The 68-year-old reprises his role as the justice-driven Robert McCall for “The Equalizer 3”, the final entry in the film adaptation of the ’80s television series of the same name.

“The Equalizer” films star Washington as a retired U.S. Marine and former Dia officer, whose desire to dole out justice in his own way and help those being oppressed often pulls him back into dangerous missions. The first premiered in theaters in 2014 and the second in 2018.

That is the question that kicked off the iconic “Scream” franchise way back in 1996. And the franchise is back, 11 years after the last installment (“Scream 4”) hit theaters. Yet again the sleepy town of Woodsboro is interrupted by a killer wearing a Ghostface mask, who is drawn to not only scary movies but folks who have a connection to the real-life murders that started it all.

What makes this new “Scream” unique is that it is the first to be produced since the death of filmmaker Wes Craven in 2015 at the age of 76. Instead, this installment is being overseen by the Radio Silence team of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and producer Chad Villella, who were responsible for 2019’s sleeper horror hit “Ready or Not.”

Hayden Panettiere Is Back As Kirby Reed In Spyglass Media And Paramount Pictures’ Next Installment Of Scream: "Hayden Panettiere will make her return to the big screen as “Kirby Reed,” reprising her role from “Scream 4” (2011), it was announced today by Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures. Following the box office success of the latest installment of Scream, Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures have given the green light to move forward with the next installment. Returning for the next film are directors Radio Silence with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett at the helm and James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers.

Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, are executive producing alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

After four weeks of total dominance at the box office, Spider-Man: No Way Home finally faces some solid competition from the legacy slasher franchise Scream. Scream, the fifth installment in Wes Craven’s self-aware horror series, is the biggest new release of the month now that Morbius has vacated its late January release date, and it will likely topple Spider-Man’s winning streak. That is not to say it won’t be another big weekend for No Way Home, though, which by Friday should become the fifth biggest domestic grosser ever and by next weekend should hit the number four spot.

There’s something dispiriting about the latest Scream. It’s an uncanny sort, though, the kind that makes its outcome even harder to swallow. The film’s shortcomings come short of producing an abject failure. The attempts at taking risks, as misguided as the execution itself can be, confound as much as they disappoint. Of course, a change in course for one of the best—if not the best—horror franchises is to be expected. Scream 4 underperformed at the box office in 2011. Hopes for a new trilogy quickly drained over the course of months after its release, and Wes Craven, who shepherded the series until that point, died in 2015. Genre cinema had lost one of its most prolific artists.

Then, in 2019, a new installment was announced. Development picked up and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, fresh off Ready or Not, signed on as directors. It’s a legacy sequel, sort of like 4 is.

So, for the last four weekends, one film has dominated, really ruled the box office. I’m talking about the latest installment of a near twenty-year-old franchise. So, what could possibly challenge this “rock-solid” tentpole and knock the “webhead’ off his perch? Perhaps the “de-throner” will be the latest installment of a franchise that’s over twenty-five-years-old. Oh, and it’s far less “family-friendly”, so maybe it’s not for the same audience. News of the event’s cancellation comes amid a nationwide Covid surge fueled by the spread of the Omicron variant, which has recently forced the 2022 Sundance Film Festival to move online and led to the indefinite postponement of the 2022 Grammy Awards. Given the tidal wave of the omicron variant, the event originally scheduled for Jan. 11 will not proceed, a note to invited guests said on Thursday.
