- He loves diving and holds a PADI AOW (Advanced Open Water) diver certification.
- Good at solving Rubik's Cube. He uses deduction rather than memorizing sequences. He showed off semi-blindfold solving, when a host asked him to work the Cube while answering questions.
- He makes exhaustive and creative preparation for his roles, such as reading original novels and design details to enrich his characters. For example, he designed the safety buckle and related scenes in Cloudy Mountain. He also designed characteristic moves to differentiate the two "identical twins" in Guardian, such as how they push up their eyeglasses.
- At age 4 and half, he started training for Chinese boxing, (aka Sanda, a type of mixed martial art free combat), when he fought with children much older than him (age 9-10). He also practices Muay Thai.
- Started classic piano lesson at age four, which he continued through his younger years. Now he plays piano as a hobby. He filmed piano playing scenes in multiple pictures and series, such as the Rebel, My Real Friend, 1921 (not in the final release). He also performed at concerts singing while playing the piano.
- Reads all scripts considered. Picks scripts that he can feel the film-maker's desire/passion to make the movie, and he feels connected with the character.
- Known for his acting accuracy. Per Lighting up the Stars (2022) director Jiangjiang Liu, repeated shooting from different angels were needed for a crying scene, when a tear ran down Zhu Yilong's face. When repeated, his tear arrived at the same spot on his face, at the same time.
