Hysteria! (which is unironically the title of Def Leppard's most popular album (and one of its most popular songs)) follows a high school heavy metal band that uses the Satanic Panic movement of the 1980s to build its reputation after the football team's quarterback goes missing.

All eight episodes of the show premiered on Peacock on October 18, and even though the series was just released, Hysteria showrunner and creator Matthew Scott Kane is already hoping that it will last four seasons.

Just in time for a Halloween binge, Hysteria! is now available on Peacock and, having seen most of the series already, I can definitely say that it's worth your time. An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. Peacock’s upcoming series Hysteria! shows a town in the grips of a Satanic Panic — emphasis on the “satanic” part.

The streamer has released a full trailer for the show, which premieres Oct. 18 and centers on three high schoolers (Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Kezii Curtis) whose heavy-metal band decides to lean into the fear caused when the high school quarterback goes missing and a pentagram is painted on the teen’s garage. Their makeover as satanists, however, unleashes forces — both among their peers and, possibly, with something otherworldly — that soon spin out of their control.

In the teaser for “Hysteria!,” released Monday, the “Modern Family” star goes about her day cooking and cleaning as a 1980s housewife until a strange interruption causes the lights to flicker and her house to shake.

By the time the event stops, Bowen thinks she’s in the clear — until she spots the face of a demon in her microwave, which proceeds to splatter into red globs.

The new series, which also stars Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”) and Bruce Campbell (“The Evil Dead,” “Army of Darkness”), will debut on Friday, Oct. 18, on Peacock, USA Network and Syfy. The two-time Emmy Award Winning Modern Family alum has joined the cast of Peacock's coming-of-age thriller Hysteria.

According to the streaming service, Hysteria "explores American's dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking story of the teenage Satanic Panic."

Peacock dropped a logline for the project, and it reads as follows:

“Modern Family” star Julie Bowen is set to star in Peacock’s new thriller series “Hysteria,” the streamer announced Tuesday.

Bowen will assume the role of Linda Campbell, the mother of a teenage outcast, in the drama series that exposes the underbelly of American’s mass hysteria prompted by teenage Satanic Panic in the 1980s by following a group of misfits who exploit the widespread concern.

As Linda witnesses supernatural disturbances that force interrogations onto her son, she questions the growing threat of Satanism that menaces small Midwestern town.

Scott Stoops will be supervising producer. UCP is the studio.

According to an individual with knowledge of the project, Good Fear worked with Kane to develop the pilot script and series pitch. They then attached Goldstein and Daley, as Bender and Weiner have a past relationship with the filmmaking duo.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has given a straight to series order to Hysteria!, a coming-of-age thriller set in the 1980s. The show comes from writer Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and Chris Bender and Jake Weiner’s Good Fear Content (the 2020 Mulan, My Spy). Universal Studio Group’s UCP is producing, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) will direct.
