Peacock has shared the first look at its new upcoming comedy series “Killing It,” streaming this April.
Created by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” producers Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, “Killing It” stars Craig Robinson as Craig, a man who competes in a state-sponsored python hunt in his quest to achieve the American Dream. The series co-stars Stephanie Nogueras as Craig’s ex-wife Camille, Jet Miller as his pre-teen daughter Vanessa and Rell Battle as his younger brother Isaiah. Claudia O’Doherty, Scott Macarthur and Wyatt Walter round out the cast.
“We love all the ambitious, challenging, thematically-rich series that populate the current peak-tv landscape,” said Goor in a statement. “We also love jokes. So, we tried to make a show that could deliver both. We wanted ‘Killing It’ to explore America’s quasi-religious obsession with entrepreneurship and wealth, and we also wanted it to be funny. Really, really funny. Plus, we wanted it to have big snakes.

Katori Hall hired all women to direct her strip club dramedy “P-Valley” for Starz because she wanted to ensure the series showcased its stripper characters through an empathetic lens.
Although the playwright-turned-series creator and showrunner tells Variety she “did try to hire men,” during interviews she asked, “What is your definition of the female gaze? And I would say 10 times out of 10, the men did not have an answer to that question.”
“And so, knowing that was my goal, to show this world through the eyes of women, I knew that I really had to pick artists and interview directors who were passionate about that and had already started investigating that gaze within their own work, and so naturally, the hiring practice quickly became all-female,” she explains.

In 2009, award-winning playwright Katori Hall started research for her play Pussy Valley, which put a spotlight on the world of stripping. She stepped into the heels of these women, took pole dancing classes and even spent her 30th birthday in the locker room of the New York strip club Sin City Bronx. On the surface, Hall’s experiences to inform her play seem like a fun adventure, but in reality, it was a cultural study to inform a more in-depth story about these women, their experiences, personal narratives and the stigma that is often attached to their profession. The play deconstructs the stereotypes these women are often subject to and doesn’t just make it about hyper-sexualized pole dancing. We often forget that these women are people with stories and emotions — not just objects as they are often portrayed.

Mercedes (Brandee Evans) is the undisputed queen of the Pynk, the Mississippi Delta strip club that provides the setting for Starz’s electric new drama P-Valley. She gets the most prominent showcases every night, pulls in the biggest tips, and invites the most admiration and/or envy from the other entertainers. But she also knows that no stripper’s reign is a long one, and has already begun plotting an exit strategy: She will open up a gym to teach local girls how to dance. A realtor, skeptical of her business model,...

Down deep in the Mississippi Delta lies an oasis of grit and glitter in a rough patch of human existence where beauty can be hard to find. This southern-fried, hour-long drama tells the kaleidoscopic story of a little-strip-club-that-could and the big characters who come through its doors – the hopeful, the lost, the broken, the ballers, the beautiful, and the damned. ”
Based on her play Pussy Valley, creator Katori Hall (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical) serves as showrunner as well as executive producer and told us how happy she is after her decade long odyssey to bring the show to screen and how, no matter when that the stories and the people who inhabit the show that is part of them are heard and celebrate,...
