Rene Maurin is a Slovene film and theatre director born in ex
Yugoslavia. He attended education in United States, Austria, Croatia
and Slovenia and could be described as swaying between film and theatre
medium. After his graduation in theatre directing he filmed a series of
documentary films for the Slovenian national Television, and won
attention of the film critics with films such as "I saw Elvis!" and
"Life As from Inside".
After this period he started to shift his attention to stage narrative. In the next decade he took over artistic leadership of City Theatre Ptuj in Slovenia and directed some performances which reaped wide acclaim and selected awards in Slovenia and abroad. Among the authors he has interpreted in his stagings we find from contemporary ones such as David Harrower and Paula Vogel up to P. A. C. Beaumarchais, J. P. Sartre, Miroslav Krleza and others "classic" dramatists.
