The world of teen rom-com is a gift that keeps giving and giving, even when we’re not really asking for it. I could say it feels like the genre has become oversaturated, but that would feel like an understatement because of the rate at which Ott platforms keep churning these out. But as I complain, I’m reminded of the comfort that some of these shows provide. While high school dramas can focus on many different subjects, most of the content revolves around teen romance. Specifically, there’s an entire list of shows that involve a very intelligent and organized girl (can’t relate) with multiple (perfectly handsome) love interests. Maybe this is a fantasy of the millennials writing these books (since TV isn’t ever original anymore), the ones who grew up watching shows that emulated the line “If he tugs at your ponytail, he likes you,” or...

The intent of THR‘s annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Showrunners is to provide an accurate state of the TV union — a rundown of the writer-producers selling in an increasingly fraught media climate, making culturally relevant and awards-friendly shows and serving the masses at a time when consensus entertainment has all but vanished. It’s also a great opportunity to pick some brains.
Those showrunners who made the 2023 list were polled on a variety of subjects. If Suits can become a streaming hit years after ending, what other shows deserve a similar fate? What IP are they dying to get their hands on? What’s already a pressing issue for the next WGA contract negotiation with the studios? And if they found themselves with a burner social media account, what would they do with it?
Here are some of the best answers to those and more questions.

The TV show "The Summer I Turned Pretty" takes Jenny Han's trilogy of coming-of-age books and turns them into must-watch summer TV. So far, each season has been inspired by one of the three books, with the second season, which premiered in July, based on the second book, "It's Not Summer Without You." The show has been renewed for a third season, and it will probably be based on the third and final book, "We'll Always Have Summer." And while the TV show has made some changes from the source material, the series is pretty faithful to the romantic plot of the books. If you just can't wait to find out what happens to Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah, read on to find out how the book series wraps up its stories!

Exclusive: Summer may be over, but The Summer I Turned Pretty is still heating things up at Prime Video.
Season 2 of Jenny Han’s YA adaptation is currently the streamer’s No. 2 most-viewed series to date among women 18-34, behind only Rings of Power, according to Prime Video. It’s also the most-completed series to-date among that demographic.
The series has also driven subscription growth this summer, Amazon reports. The Summer I Turned Pretty is among Prime Video’s Top 3 series in terms of global acquisition.
Audiences returned to Cousins Beach in July, and they brought a few new faces with them. In the first three days that the premiere episodes were available on Prime Video, the series doubled its Season 1 premiere audience.
It should not be a surprise that the series was already renewed for a third season. According to Vernon Sanders, head of television,...

Content warning: The following story contains spoilers for the "The Summer I Turned Pretty" Amazon Prime Video series and the book "We'll Always Have Summer" by Jenny Han.
Following the season two finale of "The Summer I Turned Pretty," we're now more curious than ever who Belly will end up with at the end of the Amazon Prime series. If the TV show stays true to the books, Belly and Conrad are endgame, but since there have been several major differences between the two thus far, it's unclear what author and showrunner Jenny Han has in store for the love triangle in season three. However, book fans and Redditors noticed an Easter egg in the season two finale that hints how the show's ending will remain loyal to its original story, meaning Belly and Conrad will likely end up together as they do in the books.

“Summer’s end is around the bend just flyin’” according to the great John E. Prine and Patrick James McLaughlin, whose song “Summer’s End” appeared in Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” covered by Phoebe Bridgers and Maria Taylor. This applies to reality as the seasons and months change, but also to Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which just wrapped its second season on Prime Video. Don’t blink though, because even though Season 3 is delayed due to the ongoing strikes, it will likely be the last one.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers for the "The Summer I Turned Pretty" Amazon Prime Video series and the book "It's Not Summer Without You" by Jenny Han.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" season two ended with a bang on Aug. 18. While the season's main storylines stick to the book, there are still some major changes. And while changes to a book are always met with mixed feelings, one fans have welcomed with open arms is the show's added soundtrack.
Readers often imagine which songs would accompany iconic scenes if their favorite book were adapted into a TV series. Still, it's a whole different thing when you actually get to see Belly and Jeremiah kiss on screen to the beautiful accompaniment of Beyoncé's "Xo" playing in the background. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” actress Lola Tung supports the full circle ending of Season 2 for her character Isabel “Belly” Conklin.
Belly has navigated an emotional rollercoaster — from grieving Susannah and feeling isolated from the boys to confronting Conrad after two fallouts with him and then kissing Jeremiah — to reach the final scene of Season 2. Her now boyfriend, Jeremiah, supports her from the bleachers as she makes her case to her high school volleyball coach to let her back on the team. Once her coach accepts, Belly gets fired up playing the sport she loves surrounded by some of her biggest cheerleaders — including her best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) in addition to Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).

Taylor Swift goes with “The Summer I Turned Pretty” like Belly belongs with one of the Fisher boys. Before the latest episode of the show, which includes a clip of Belly and Jeremiah set to “Delicate,” Taylor Swift only played during moments between Belly and Conrad.
Jenny Han herself has confirmed the special connection between her Prime Video TV show and the songstress’ work. The release date of Season 2 of the show and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) were announced so close together, with the cast wearing a lot of purple (the coded “Speak Now” color of the era). Then “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” debuted in the trailer for Season 2. “August” from “folklore” got a special treatment for the teaser trailer.
With Season 3’s renewal announcement Thursday, the possibilities of which songs will feature next are endless, especially as the strike extends and Swift continues to re-record her masters.

[This story includes spoilers from the season two finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty.]
Season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty brought tears, laughter, heartbreak and a whirlwind year for Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah and the rest of the gang. Amid Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) death, a complicated love triangle and strained family relationships, this summer was an emotional rollercoaster not only for the characters, but also for the audience watching.
Creator Jenny Han recently told The Hollywood Reporter that while season one was a “sort of fantasy of summer love,” season two was about learning that “nothing lasts forever” — a harsh reality for all.
In the Prime Video series, based on Han’s book trilogy of the same name, Belly (Lola Tung) is navigating life as a teenager, and young love. But relationships are never easy, especially when she’s caught in the middle between two brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), who she’s not...

Kyra Sedgwick crafted a detailed backstory for her character Aunt Julia, who catalyzes the plot for Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
Julia is Susannah’s half-sister who inherits the Cousins Beach house after Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) dies between the first and second seasons of the show. To thwart Julia’s sale of the house, Susannah’s son Conrad goes missing. His brother Jeremiah and their joint love interest Belly join in to make the sale a living hell.
“It was good to be somebody who comes in and affects change. That’s a great character to play. A new relationship has entered the mix on “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
In the sixth episode of Season 2, Skye (Elsie Fisher) and Cam Cameron (David Iacono) acted on their feelings for each other, sealing them with a sweet kiss. Iacono acknowledged the contrast between this budding relationship and the intense love triangle Belly (Lola Tung) finds herself in with the Fisher brothers.
“I think [Skye and Cam’s relationship] is refreshing at points, [given] everything that’s going on with Conrad and Jeremiah and Belly … and even Steven and Taylor,” Iacono told TheWrap in an interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. “I think it’ll be nice for people to have a bit of a breather when it comes to Cam and Skye. Their relationship is very new.”
Fisher, who goes by they/them pronouns, weighed in, describing Skye and Cam as “low stakes” yet “they mean something to each other.”

Season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty is pulling in big viewership numbers, which made Prime Video’s announcement that the coming-of-age drama has been renewed for season three not in the least bit shocking. The official announcement confirmed there will be a 10-episode third season but didn’t reveal any specifics about the upcoming season.
According to the streaming service, season three was actually greenlit before either the writers or actors strikes. Obviously, production will not get underway until the strikes are over.
The series is based on Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy, and Han and Sarah Kucserka will continue as showrunners for the 10-episode third season. Han, Kucserka, Karen Rosenfelt, and wiip’s Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen, and Paul Lee executive produce.
