We came, we saw, we enjoyed.
For the second straight year, the WayHome Music and Arts Festival, as organized by Republic Live, swept through the quaint town of Oro-Medonte, Canada. Roughly 1.5 hours from Toronto, the city saw over 40,000 festival goers descend upon it for the three-day concert series. After the success of the 2015 installment, pressure was high coming into the event, and thankfully, expectations were met.
WayHome 2016 proved to be an incredible time for everyone who attended, with an array of top tier musicians such as The Killers, Arcade Fire, Major Lazer and LCD Soundsystem all playing to massive crowds. With other acts such as The Arkells, Metric and Chet Faker performing as well, there was no shortage of outstanding music during the three-day fest.

The recent global success of Australian electronic music acts like Flume and Chet Faker has provided a platform by which others can reach wider audiences, and Ta-Ku and Wafia appear to be next in line. The Perth-based DJ/producer and Brisbane-based vocalist have delivered the first single from their upcoming (m)edian Ep titled “Meet In The Middle.”
A serene R&B song with vague future bass leanings, “Meet In The Middle” is largely driven by a lyrical exchange between Ta-Ku and Wafia. The rest of the arrangement serves as little more than a backdrop, but Ta-Ku’s keen attention to sound design elements is evident all the same.
Ta-Ku and Wafia released “Meet In The Middle” ahead of their Vivid Live performance at the Sydney Opera House on June 3rd. The five-track (m)edian Ep, meanwhile, is slated for release through renowned Australian independent record label Future Classic on June 24th.

There’s no simple roadmap for how a conglomerate of SFX Entertainment’s size goes through chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, and trivial details were bound to fall by the wayside. In the most recent court documents that have surfaced as a result of the company’s legal proceedings, partial lineup details for three of its festivals have made their rounds on social media.
To be specific, some of the headliners for Electric Zoo, Spring Awakening and Mamby On The Beach have been revealed to the public. Artists as big as deadmau5, Hardwell, Claude VonStroke and Tchami have found their way onto the entertainment rosters for the former two events, with the likes of Hannah Wants, Chromeo and Chet Faker on the last.

With artists like Flume, Chet Faker and Thomas Jack hogging the spotlight, the average electronic music fan might not think of Australia as a major trance hotspot. As it would happen, though, a rising star who calls Melbourne home is responsible for some of the genre’s most refreshing innovations.
MaRLo might be Dutch by birth, but he’s spent enough of his life Down Under to call Australia home. His unique brand of dark yet high-energy trance – which he refers to as “tech energy” – might prove a promising tangent in the near future, as fans of the genre increasingly demand more “pure” sounds.
We caught up with MaRLo during Miami Music Week for a quick interview and he revealed, among other things, that he plans to debut a wealth of new music during his set at Ultra Music Festival this weekend. If anything he mentioned below piques your interest,...

WayHome will be returning to Orillia, Ontario this year on July 22-24, and earlier today, the festival organizers dropped the lineup in its entirety. Set to be headlined by huge acts like LCD Soundsytem, Arcade Fire and The Killers, the roster is definitely looking pretty impressive.
Supporting the headliners are artists like Major Lazer, Chet Faker, Third Eye Blind, M83, Haim and many, many more. Overall, it’s a strong collection of music from a variety of genres and it should ensure that those that attend the festival’s second outing should find themselves having a pretty good time.
Tickets go on sale on February 16th over on the official website, so if you’re planning to be there, be sure to pick one up.

If you’ve found yourself growing tired of what passes for a festival lineup in recent years, Lightning in a Bottle makes for a welcome departure from the live music event status quo. Between a carefully curated audiovisual experience and an unparalleled community aspect, the event is ideal for anyone looking to venture off the beaten path – and it just released the kind of lineup that proves it.
While artists like Mija, Cashmere Cat and Chet Faker stand out as the more recognizable ones on Lightning in a Bottle’s roster, the true appeal of the festival lies in its more obscure artists – like Polish Ambassador, Autograf or G Jones. For our money, though, The Woogie stage is where it’s at; DJ/producers like Guy Gerber, Lee Burridge and Josh Wink are more than qualified to fill the house and techno quota of any party.

Dance music masters Major Lazer and Disclosure will be heading off to Washington’s The Gorge Amphitheater this spring to headline Sasquatch! Festival, one of the Pacific Northwest’s biggest annual music events.
While the lineups at Sasquatch! tend to reflect a more rock oriented background, this year’s eclectic roster is loaded with great electronic acts, with M83, Jamie Xx, Tycho, Four Tet, Grimes, Rudimental, Big Grams, and Chet Faker all confirmed as performers for the event. Non-electronic acts like The Cure and Florence and the Machine grace this year’s lineup as well.
Disclosure and Major Lazer both released huge albums in 2015 that helped usher dance music into the mainstream, and their presence at the festival will ensure that electronic music gets some major representation at the fifteenth annual Sasquatch!

Ultra Music Festival just dropped a massive phase 1 lineup for 2016, and we’re absolutely speechless. Seriously, where do we even begin here? The return of Pendulum? The 9 stages? The perfect balance between mainstream and underground music? There’s so much to like about this lineup and once again, Ultra has hit it out of the park.
More so than ever, the festival is really showing a push for diversity, with artists like Chet Faker, Tycho and Miike Snow all grabbing headliner spots alongside the big guns like Kaskade, Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren etc. It’s great to see and has us hopeful for a phase 2 lineup that’s just as eclectic and varied.
Take a look at the ridiculously impressive roster of artists below and let us know in the comments section if you’ll be attending Ultra Miami this year.

If you feel like it’s strange to hear a Chet Faker song with a four-four house beat, well, that’s because it is – but in the case of “Birthday Card,” you can probably go ahead and attribute that part of the production to Marcus Marr. The two electronic music artists must have left off with some unfinished business after last month’s “The Trouble With Us,” because it took them no time at all to follow up on it.
The wonky bass line and echoey atmospheric synths immediately give the track a club appeal peculiar to Faker’s usual releases. The groove of the track builds up into a melodic upswing, and Faker’s characteristically drowsy singing style almost seems to cascade over the rest of the arrangement like a meandering raincloud.

There are few names that represent the alternative side of Australian dance music quite like Flume and Chet Faker do. The former artist pioneered future bass by experimenting with elements of trap, downtempo and dubstep and the latter is responsible for a soul-infused variety of electronic music – and as evidenced by the LockJaw Ep, the place where those styles intersect is something remarkable.
Fans of the aforementioned effort can rejoice in the knowledge that Flume and Faker have another Ep releasing shortly as well. The title, release date and other information remain to be disclosed, but in an interview with Thump, Faker expressed that the Ep would be “coming out very soon.”
Check back soon as we’ll have further updates about Flume and Chet Faker’s upcoming Ep when they become available. For now, though, let us know if you’re looking forward to the effort by sounding off in the comments section below.

Yes, you read correctly, we’re still running with the term “hipstertonica.”
Australian electronic music producer Chet Faker wowed us a couple months ago with “Bend,” which he released alongside the announcement of a few final tour dates. His latest work, “Killswitch,” accompanies the unveiling of another series of Australian dates – but nobody’s suggesting that it doesn’t stand up on its own merit.
“Killswitch” – which sounds absolutely nothing like the metal band Killswitch Engage, in case you were wondering – features the understated vocal musings characteristic of Faker’s soul-infused downtempo style. A folky tune with downplayed electronic music elements, it further contributes to his body of work by being everything that mainstream Edm isn’t.
As for the tour dates, Chet Faker will make stops in Linithgow Ave, Brisbane and Sydney from the end of October to early November. After listening to “Killswitch,” would you like him to pay your city a visit?...

In 2013, former “Community” star and Atlanta native Donald Glover announced he was developing a show for FX called “Atlanta.” Now, two years later, FX will finally be shooting a pilot co-starring Lakeith Lee Stanfield, Zazie Beats, and Brian Tyree Henry, who is best known for HBO’s “Vice Principals” and Broadway’s “Book of Mormon.” Glover will star as Earnest “Earn” Marks, an aspiring rapper who returns to Atlanta after failing to find fame and fortune, only to learn his cousin, played by Henry, is hip-hop’s next big thing. Glover wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producer alongside Paul Simms (“Girls,” “Flight of the Conchords”) and Dianne McGunigle of Mgmt Entertainment. At the helm will be Hiro Murai, who’s directed videos for musicians Flying Lotus, Chet Faker, and Glover’s hip-hop alter-ego Childish Gambino. Glover is currently dancing his way through “Magic Mike Xxl”; meanwhile filming for “Atlanta” begins this month.

Australian soul/downtempo artist Chet Faker may be the biggest name in what we’re going to go ahead and dub “hipstertronica.” The folk and jazz-inspired style of beatsmithing he’s showcased on tracks like his 2011 cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” stands out as a unique tangent of an increasingly homogenized musical movement, and his success over the past several years has proven that sentiment to be universal. For that reason, when he announced the release of new material, the electronic music world waited with baited breath to see what he was going to bring to the table.
The first new gem to surface is “Bend,” a largely instrumental, Gorillaz-esque pop track that departs further from the confines of run-of-the-mill dance music. Dithering percussion and a bluesy guitar riff accompany Faker’s unmistakeable vocal chops, and the track goes so light on synth work that you hardly even notice it’s there.

Chet Faker, the hirsute Australian electronic musician whose silky, soulful single “Gold” was recently used in an ad for the new Apple laptop, didn’t know that his first release, a minimalist, unexpectedly charming cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” back in 2011, would lead him to so much success. The throwback '90s R&B jam, included on his debut Ep Thinking in Textures, has become a staple during live shows, including, recently, a packed house at Manhattan’s Terminal 5, where the mostly white, mostly 20-something crowd went nuts for it during the encore. “That song was taken with a sense of irony [that] seemed obvious to me,” he says. “But irony gets lost, especially in the public eye.” The 26-year-old Faker, whose real name is Nick Murphy, grew up in Melbourne, where his mother introduced him to Motown and jazz. (His adopted name is an ode to the late trumpeter...
