The Sundance queer drama “Sebastian,” directed by up-and-coming Finnish-British director Mikko Mäkelä, has been bought by Kino Lorber for U.S. distribution, along with a string of international buyers.
Represented in international markets by LevelK, the film made its world premiere in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
“Sebastian” follows Max (Ruaridh Mollica), a 25-year-old freelance writer and aspiring novelist who seems well on his way to success in London’s cultural spheres. Yet by night, he finds a different kind of exhilaration as a sex worker with the pseudonym Sebastian, meeting men via an escorting platform. Max uses his experiences as Sebastian to fuel his stories, and the worthy debut novel that he has been longing to write finally seems within reach. But Max increasingly struggles to remain in control of his double-life, leading him to reckon with whether Sebastian is merely a...

"Someone needs to swim for help." Studiocanal has revealed an official UK trailer for a shark horror movie titled Something in the Water, made by a VFX artist turned filmmaker named Hayley Easton Street. It's set for release in the UK in July this summer, though no US date confirmed yet. This all-female production is written by, directed by, produced by, and stars nothing but women. Awesome! "This summer, fear will find new depths." The survival thriller follows a group of five girlfriends who must fight for their lives in open water after a dream wedding transformed into a nightmare. Starring Hiftu Quasem, Lauren Lyle, Natalie Mitson, Nicole Rieko Setsuko, and Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart, as a group of friends on a holiday gone very wrong. It's always the same story in these shark movies, something goes wrong while out on the water. But this still looks pretty good! They'll never stop making more shark horror movies,...

It’s, once again, not safe to go in the water as we quickly find out in the first trailer for Something In The Water.
We’ve barely recovered from the whiplash of watching Jason Statham battle a ginormous shark in The Meg 2, but here we go again!
No, it’s not another The Meg movie. This time, five ordinary women are pitted against a very hungry shark while stranded in the Caribbean.
Take a look at the trailer for Something In The Water.
Hold on, let me just cancel my upcoming holiday to the Caribbean. Now then, that looks rather good!
A tranquil holiday and wedding celebration that turns into a bloody fight for survival? Sign us up.

Finnish filmmaker Mikko Mäkelä takes us into the shadow worlds of niche sexuality and queer sex work in London’s most sterile apartments and grayly desolate hotels in his new film “Sebastian.” This provocative, explicit, and ultimately tender drama stars newcomer Ruaridh Mollica as Max, a 25-year-old literary journalist writing a novel about a sex worker named Sebastian — and to get to the root of the thing, Max decides that he, too, must submerge himself in that very underworld.
As a psychological portrait of an aspiring writer who gets too immersed in his own project, “Sebastian” is never as piercing as star Mollica’s eyes and chiseled face. But the performance is affecting, and Mäkelä brandishes an ambient, lulling sense of style that evokes the loneliness at Max’s core. Internationally savvy gay film fans with a taste for the kinky and sad will want to check out this understated...

This post contains spoilers for "The Witcher" and "The Witcher: Blood Origin."
Now that the third season of Netflix's "The Witcher" has drawn to a close, it's safe to say that the prequel miniseries "The Witcher: Blood Origin" is more of a supplementary text than an essential spinoff. For the most part, the story of seven ancient warriors who brought about the Conjunction of the Spheres, leading to the collision of elven, monster, and human worlds, hasn't really come up in the flagship show's storyline. There are a few exceptions, though, including a moment in the penultimate episode of season 3 that sees a starving, hallucinating Ciri (Freya Allan) at the mercy of the spirit of the controversial rebel princess Falka.

This post contains spoilers for "The Witcher" season 3 volume 2.
If you're well-versed in the lore of Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" book series, the final moment of Netflix's season 3 finale might have left you saying some variation of, "Aw, hell yeah!" If you haven't read the books, Ciri's last-minute name-drop perhaps feels a lot less significant, but it's obvious to even the most casual viewers that it's a major moment. After all, it's not Geralt that gets the last word this season, but Ciri, as she introduces herself to the gang of fellow survivors called The Rats after assisting them in the slaughter of their captors. "Call me Falka," she says, just before the credits roll.
This isn't the first time we've heard the name Falka: The character was first mentioned back in season 2, but audiences met her in the penultimate episode of the new season, during Ciri's vision-filled quest through the Korath Desert.

This post contains spoilers for Netflix's "The Witcher" and the source material.
Volume II of "The Witcher" picks up right after the Thanedd Ball, and dives straight into the coup organized within Aretuza, pitting the mages against the Scoia'tael in a heated, aggressive battle. Numerous lives are lost, allegiances are questioned, and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) has to make the difficult decision of leaving Ciri (Freya Allan) alone with Geralt (Henry Cavill) to go help her own people. While all of this is going down, Ciri gets separated from Geralt again and makes her way to Tor Lara, the fortified peak that towers over the island. This is where things get a little confusing, as we see Ciri face off with Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) for a split second and yeeted to an unfamiliar desert, where she slowly loses her sanity over the next two episodes.
