“The Devil Wears Prada” and “27 Dresses” writer Aline Brosh McKenna’s directorial debut “Your Place Or Mine” stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. A strong ensemble cast includes Steve Zahn, Jesse Williams, Tig Notaro and Zoe Chao along with Wesley Kimmel. The film heads to Netflix Friday, Feb. 10.
Peter (Kutcher) lives in New York where he looks forward to change in his consulting job and love life. Debbi (Witherspoon) lives in Los Angeles with her son Jack (Kimmel), and she clings to structure and routine. The two are exact opposites, but they have been best friends for 20 years ever since they had a one-night stand that didn’t go anywhere. Peter loves “The Cars,” and the film contains quite a few of their hits.
For Debbie, McKenna wrote the film’s original song “Embers” with the film’s composer Siddhartha and Alan DeMoss, who produced and mixed the score.

Songs For Screens is a Variety column written by Andrew Hampp, a VP at New York-based music sponsorship and experiential agency Mac Presents and former branding correspondent for Billboard. Each week, the column will highlight noteworthy use of music in advertising and marketing campaigns, as well as new and catalog songs that we deem ripe for synch use.
Like most artists who’ve been synched by Apple, Jack Stratton found out his band Vulfpeck’s song “Back Pocket” had been used in a cinematic new spot for Apple at the same time as the rest of the world, upon its debut on March 22. But the song wasn’t just featured: his band had struck the holy grail of synchs, a song featured in a minute-long prime-time commercial for Apple, with a creative concept tailored specifically to the song’s swaggering, blue-eyed soul groove and staccato chorus.

Vulfpeck is a funk outfit from Ann Arbor, Mi. They made headlines last year when they released an album titled "Sleepify" on Spotify. There was one catch, the album didn't contain any music. Before Spotify pulled the album from their service they racked up $20,000 which was used to fund a tour of free shows. A friend introduced me to them last night. He queued up this performance from last month when the group performed on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert". Joined by Jon Batiste and Stay Human they performed the absolutely electric "1612". This has got to be one of the tastiest pieces of performance I've seen/heard in a long time. I can't stop watching this. I need more Vulfpeck in my life. You can check out their new record "Thrill of the Arts" over on their website.
