A 7-time-award-winning author, veteran hair-replacement specialist, custom wig-maker, makeup and hairstylist, and inspirational speaker, Helen Owens has dedicated the better part of her life to helping women heal. Growing up in poverty as a teenage mother while battling severe dyslexia and childhood hair loss, Owens shows women by example how to harness their personal power and heal their hearts, minds, and spirit.
Owens has received several awards for showing women how to emerge strongly from tumultuous storms. She is a winner of the distinguished national "Shining Star" award, an accolade given to women committed to improving their community and uplifting the lives of others. She was named nominee-finalist in Public Service for CityFlight Magazine's "Top 10 Most Influential African-Americans in the Bay Area." She also received "public recognition of distinction and merit" from the City and County of San Francisco for her "unwavering commitment to uplift other women in the community." Owens is a regularly featured expert on maintaining self-esteem regardless of challenges faced and has contributed to a host of local and national media outlets. As host of The-She-Compass Show, an inspirational and motivational podcast for women, she has interviewed private and public figures, including Mayor of San Francisco London Breed.
Owens is a contributor to 3 books on overcoming obstacles and loss and is the first-time author of the 7-time award-winning book "Finding Our She-Compass: 15 Life Lessons for Women Voyaging Toward Restoration, Reconstruction, and Renewal. " She has also appeared on a number of podcasts as a guest, providing inspirational and motivational words of wisdom to listeners everywhere.
