The son of two African-American war veterans,Tru Valentino moved with his parents to the United States as an infant, where he grew up in Waynesville, Missouri and attended high school. He graduated from college and became a member of the comedy troupe The Groundlings. He made his debut role as Tommy in the 2016 miniseries My Delivery Guy as well as a breakthrough role as Chad in the 2018 short film Broga: Yoga for Bros. In 2021, he joined the cast of ABC's The Rookie as Aaron Thorsen since the fourth season, and starring opposite Nathan Fillion, Richard T. Jones, Alyssa Diaz, Shawn Ashmore, Eric Winter, and Melissa O'Niel.
