For the first time since 2022, this year’s South by Southwest Film & Television Festival does not overlap with the Oscars — which seems to have given SXSW curators a richer field to pull from, as the 2025 lineup has no shortage of buzzy titles and stars. Running from March 7-15, the festival will present 111 movies and 17 series featuring the likes of Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick, Seth Rogen, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Ben Affleck, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, Issa Rae, Jenna Ortega, Daveed Diggs and more.
The festival will open with “Another Simple Favor,” the sequel to the 2018 comedic thriller “A Simple Favor,” once again starring Lively and Kendrick and directed by Paul Feig. The new film is set in Capri, Italy, where Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) travel for Emily’s wedding to a rich Italian businessman; as the logline reveals, “murder and betrayal” ensue. It’s almost an understatement to say that “Euphoria” revolutionized the cosmetics industry — not just for the makeup and crafts departments in the TV landscape, but the entire billion-dollar consumer market as a whole.
“Euphoria” makeup department head Donni Davy got a glimmer of the glitter trend she single-handedly started during Season 1. Yet the fandom continued throughout the viral Season 2, pushing Davy to keep reinventing the looks of each character, whether it was Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) cosplaying in the high school halls while trying to keep Nate (Jacob Elordi) interested or Jules (Hunter Schaefer) making head-turning statements with her clubbing aesthetics.
The popularity of the hit HBO series, which has confirmed a Season 3, now has a certain standard of makeup to uphold.
In short, what trend will Davy start next?

Jacob Elordi, Elvis, Bacon, Role Preparation, Priscilla Presley (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jacob Elordi played Elvis Presley like a pro. While prepping for Priscilla, he went full method, downing a pound of bacon daily to channel the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
“You ate a lot of bacon,” director Sofia Coppola told Elordi during a discussion with Entertainment Weekly. He didn’t deny it. “I ate a lot of bacon,” he alluded. Then came the real shocker: “I averaged like a pound of bacon daily. It’s not that noticeable because I’m quite long, but I was the biggest I’ve ever been.”
Elvis was notorious for indulging in eating habits, and Elordi took them seriously. Priscilla Presley herself had told the filmmakers that Elvis liked his bacon, which was burnt. The cast even discussed his love for over-the-top sandwiches, including the infamous “Fool’s Gold” loaf – sourdough bread stuffed with peanut butter,...

Director Guillermo del Toro has spent the last year working on one of his dream projects, an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale Frankenstein that is set up at the Netflix streaming service. While we don’t know the exact date the movie is going to be released, we do know that it’s going to make it’s way out into the world sometime in November of 2025 – and some lucky people already got the chance to watch footage! The Wrap reports that two minutes of the film was screened during the Next on Netflix event in Los Angeles earlier this week, and they described it as “grisly and lush.”
Del Toro’s Frankenstein, which is a long-awaited passion project for the filmmaker, might have the following logline: Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th Century, the story of Dr. Pretorius, who needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster-...

Following a recent behind-the-scenes photo showing the Moon Knight star from the back, Netflix has released a first official look at Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel.
The image shows Victor looking characteristically intense as he addresses a room full of his peers with a mysterious vial in his hand.
Del Toro screened the first footage from the movie to members of the press on Wednesday from his L.A. “Bleak House,” and we have some descriptions of the teaser - including what to expect from Jacob Elordi as The Monster.
According to Variety, the teaser "saw Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein facing off with Mia Goth as a seemingly well-to-do aristocrat. It also provided a brief glimpse at Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s monster, towering over Isaac’s bed with long black hair, stitched-up gray skin and a...

Martin Scorsese, Adam Driver, Idris Elba, Spike Jonze…and now, Barry Keoghan.
The crop of Squarespace Super Bowl-ad alums is nothing to scoff at, especially since Scorsese directed as well as starred in the brand’s 2024 ad. Super Bowl Lix marks the Irish actor Keoghan’s turn.
For the big game short film, Keoghan is again co-starring with a donkey, just like in “The Banshees of Inisherin.” The commercial, titled “Barry and Mosley,” co-stars Don Mosley — that’s the donkey — who could really use a website to support his budding acting career.
“Barry brings his signature charm and depth to this campaign, celebrating creativity and entrepreneurship in a way that is both striking and unexpected,” a Squarespace statement reads.
And it’s true: Keoghan’s comedy chops (while chomping an apple) really shine here.

Netflix has revealed that Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein will be released in November.
The announcement was accompanied by a new image featuring Oscar Isaac as mad scientist Victor Frankenstein.
Jacob Elordi plays Frankenstein’s monster. Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz co-star as Elizabeth and Dr. Pretorius, respectively.
The cast also includes Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, Christian Convery, and Ralph Ineson.
“This film has been on my mind since I was a child — for 50 years. I’ve been trying to make it for 20 to 25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein,” del Toro told the audience at the Next on Netflix event.
“And they probably would be right. You see, over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography. It doesn’t get more personal than this.

The event in L.A. included video presentations from special guests. Netflix previewed their 2025 film slate at a splashy event in Los Angeles. And as part of this Next on Netflix event, they revealed some specific release dates, along with the more general time that some of the biggest titles of the year will come out. One thing is certain – fall is going to be jam-packed.
In addition to Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” in November, “Fall 2025” is the release date for:
Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly” starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler Joe Carnahan’s “Rip” led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. An untitled Kathryn Bigelow thriller with Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee. The third “Knives Out” whodunnit “Wake Up Dead Man” — Daniel Craig returns, this time joined by Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin and Mila Kunis. And “The Woman in Cabin 10,” based on the bestselling novel by Ruth Ware. Keira Knightley and Guy Peace star.

Netflix revealed the first footage from Guillermo del Toro’s passion project, “Frankenstein,” which he wrote, directed and produced. And it is a doozy.
As part of Wednesday’s Next on Netflix event in Los Angeles, the streaming giant previewed a little more than two minutes of footage from the upcoming movie, which will debut this November. The footage opens with Dr. Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) attempting to reanimate a partial corpse in an operating theater. A bunch of Victorian doctors tut-tut his experiment, which involves a torso and head (it almost looks like a classic automaton).
Christoph Waltz shows up saying that he will give the frazzled young doctor unlimited resources, and we see Frankenstein surveying a battlefield, picking out parts. (There is a particularly grisly moment where we see the doctor slicing through muscle like it’s roast beef.) There are glimpses of the operating table and the creature,...

Carey Mulligan revealed at the Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance that she “just started” filming the second season of Netflix’s series “Beef.” The first season won Emmys for leading stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, so anticipation is high for the new episodes. The show’s second season will feature a new storyline and an entirely new cast, headlined by Mulligan, Oscar Isaac (with whom she starred in the Coen Bros.’ “Inside LLewyn Davis”), Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny.
“We just started. Almost everything [is different],” Mulligan told Variety’s Tatiana Siegel when asked about the new season. “But it’s still [creator Lee Sung Jin] being brilliant. It’s a completely new story and if I say anything else then a laser beam will appear on my head. But it’s very exciting.”
Another project Mulligan can’t talk about is Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

It's been a long — very long — time coming for Euphoria season 3 to pick up steam, but more and more news has finally started to emerge ahead of the production kickoff later this month.
While fans can expect Emmy Award winner Zendaya and much of the main cast to return for season 3, including Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, and Alexa Demie, there will be a few familiar faces not part of the cast in the new season.
Barbie Ferreira previously revealed revealed her exit from Euphoria in August 2022 following the completion of season 2. Due to events in the second season, Javon Walton won't be appearing again, and the tragic death of Angus Cloud also hangs over the third season.
Most recently, as production on season 3 actually began to become a reality, Emmy Award winner Storm Reid revealed in November 2024 at the Governors Awards that she would not be...

Barbie Ferreira may not be returning to “Euphoria,” but the actress is making her feature presence known with indie dramedy “Bob Trevino Likes It.”
The film, which debuted at SXSW 2024, stars Ferreira as a struggling caretaker who tries to cope with her absent father. While Ferreira has had roles in “Unpregnant” and “Nope,” it is “Bob” that puts Ferreira on the map as one to watch — and she even executive produces it along with her co-star and onscreen surrogate dad John Leguizamo.
Tracie Laymon writes and directs the semi-autobiographical feature, which is inspired by the true friendship of her befriending a stranger in real life while looking for her father online.
The official synopsis reads: “Often playing the role of caretaker to people like her father, who should be caring for her, Lily Trevino (Ferreira) longs for familial connection. When her father, Robert (French Stewart), finally checks out of her life,...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dexter: New Blood.
It may have been almost four years now since Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan was both figuratively and literally put on ice during the dramatic climax of Dexter: New Blood, but the crime solving serial killer and his namesake franchise have scarcely been more alive. With Paramount+ and Showtime prequel series Dexter: Original Sin already proving a hit with fans and critics alike, production is already underway on Dexter: Resurrections, a present day sequel series set after New Blood's trigger happy ending. And in a major casting coup, none other than Beatrix Kiddo herself, Uma Thurman, has joined the show as a series regular.

After bringing romantic comedies back to form with 2023’s Anyone But You, Sydney Sweeney is in talks to star in a different kind of comedy for an adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. Sweeney is negotiating to star in the feature-length project at A24 and Picturestart, based on the short story by the timeless teller of spooky stories, Edgar Allen Poe. Charlie Polinger is directing, writing, and executive producing the “darkly comedic” take on The Masque of the Red Death, with Lucy McKendrick also serving as an executive producer.
Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, first published in 1842, follows Prince Prospero’s attempts to avoid a dangerous plague while hiding in his abbey. Some consider Poe’s Gothic fiction tale an allegory for the inevitability of death, though some literary experts disagree. In the story, Prospero hosts a masquerade ball...

Exclusive: Colman Domingo is joining the cast of Gus Van Sant’s hostage thriller Dead Man’s Wire after completing his scenes for Edgar Wright’s The Running Man.
The title of Wright’s film is an apt for an actor who is doing the reverse of Phillip C. McGraw’s dictum that ‘it’s a marathon, not a sprint,’ by jetting from London on Monday to a devastated Los Angeles, then on to Kentucky next weekend to join Nosferatu’s Bill Skarsgard in Dead Man’s Wire in Louisville.
Austin Kolodney’s original screenplay for Dead Man’s Wire is based on the story of Tony Kirtsis, who one frigid day in February 1977 took Indianapolis mortgage broker Dick Hall hostage in his office. He attached a steel wire, that was hooked to the barrel of a sawed-off, double barrel shotgun, around his captive’s neck. Deadline revealed news of the production and the casting of Skarsgard,...

Paul Schrader is sounding off in support of using ChatGPT to come up with ideas for films. In a recent Facebook post, the “Taxi Driver” writer and “First Reformed” director said he asked the AI platform to generate plots for movies by famous filmmakers, including himself, and was impressed by the results.
“I’M Stunned,” Schrader wrote. “I just asked chatgpt for ‘an idea for Paul Schrader film.’ Then Paul Thomas Anderson. Then Quentin Tarantino. Then Harmony Korine. Then Ingmar Bergman. Then Rossellini. Lang. Scorsese. Murnau. Capra. Ford. Speilberg [sic]. Lynch. Every idea chatgpt came up with (in a few seconds) was good. And original. And fleshed out. Why should writers sit around for months searching for a good idea when AI can provide one in seconds?”
The post prompted plenty of backlash from Schrader’s followers, with responses including: “Paul is everything ok?,” “I think Paul has been hacked” and “Jesus Paul…...

Fresh off the box office success of Nosferatu, a new take on a horror classic that itself was derived from a horror classic, you might be wondering what’s next from director Robert Eggers. Does he plan on bringing other classic monsters to the screen? Well, one thing we can say for sure is that you shouldn’t expect his take on Frankenstein.
On the show Conversations @ Curzon, Eggers recently spilled the beans that he actually did make a brief attempt to put his own spin on Frankenstein. Alas, it just wasn’t working out.
Eggers tells the show, “Sometimes you know you’ve got a dud. I’m super, super-excited for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. But when my son was born, I had an unconscious urge – I’m sure because of that – I started to try to do Frankenstein.”

The Berlin Film Festival has confirmed that Bong Joon Ho’s Robert Pattinson movie “Mickey 17” will play at the festival, in the Berlinale Special section, alongside a new – and equally glitzy — addition, Justin Kurzel‘s series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” starring Jacob Elordi.
Variety first reported last week that “Mickey 17” would have its international premiere at Berlinale.
“The Narrow Road of the Deep North” will world premiere at the festival. Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel, the highly anticipated series stars Elordi as a celebrated World War II hero who is haunted by his experiences in a Japanese prisoner of war camp and memories of an affair that took place just before the war.
Also joining the Berlinale Special roster is “The Thing with Feathers,” Dylan Southern’s film starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard Boxall. The movie, which will have its European premiere at the fest,...

Harrison Ford is one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, but the financiers on Blade Runner clearly weren’t paying attention because they had the unmitigated gall to question Ridley Scott’s choice to cast him in the leading role.
