For the past 20 years, Jason Sudeikis has been one of the most prominent voices in American comedy. The actor and comedian came into the world with at least one showbiz connection -- his uncle is George Wendt of "Cheers" fame -- but he has carved out his own unique space in film and television, outwardly the clean-cut straight man, but with deep reserves of cynicism hidden underneath a bright smile. Sudeikis got his start with the Second City improv troupe before eventually being hired by "Saturday Night Live," where his career really took off. Since working on the show for a decade, he has developed a thriving career that encompasses television, independent dramedies, and big-budget blockbusters.
His filmography showcases a keen eye for both interesting characters with unexpected facets to their personality and projects that capitalize on his strengths as a performer. Over the years, Sudeikis has earned rave reviews from both audiences and critics,...

James Comey and Andrew McCabe — the former FBI director and former acting FBI director who drew former President Trump’s ire over the Russia investigation — were targets of an intensive, incredibly rare IRS audit that is supposed to be random, The New York Times reported on Wednesday. The IRS said on Thursday that it has asked the tax inspector general to investigate the matter, noting that Trump-appointed IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig “personally reached out.”
The odds of being selected for the audit are microscopic. The Times points out that out...

Rebecca Kutler, a longtime CNN talent and development executive who had had a hand in the success of anchors and contributors including Abby Phillip and Van Jones, is leaving the news outlet, a move that is said to be raising eyebrows among some of the Warner Bros. Discovery outlet’s team of journalists.
Kutler had most recently been senior vice president and head of programming for CNN+, the much-promoted streaming video hub that was scuttled by CNN’s new corporate parent quickly after the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia. But her influence at CNN spans well beyond a new streaming effort. She also oversees all analysts, contributors and commentators for CNN, a job she has held since 2015, and was a key lieutenant for former CNN chief Jeff Zucker as well as Amy Entelis, who oversees talent at the news venue

David Simon, the creator of HBO’s acclaimed cop drama “The Wire,” spoke frankly about the police response to the massacre of 19 children and two teachers at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday — and contrasted that response to police officers he knew in real life.
On Wednesday, it came out that police officers stood by for nearly an hour as parents begged them to confront the shooter — dithering that might have helped create more deaths — and have since failed to offer a coherent explanation for their failure to act.
Simon, inspired by this news, offered his own thoughts in a series of tweets on Thursday. “I am writing to say that as a reporter, I knew men who could not have produced any smart or tactical reason to stand outside a school while children were shot and bleeding to death inside,...

“The Comey Rule” premiered on Showtime over two nights on September 27 and 28 of last year telling the story of James Comey’s (played by two-time Emmy winner Jeff Daniels) tenure as the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The two-part limited series frames Comey’s time as the head of the FBI through two of the most high profile investigations the agency conducted. The first is the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary and Comey’s decision to announce that the investigation was being reopened (due to a connection with former congressman Anthony Weiner) less than two weeks before the 2016 presidential election. The second part of the series examines Comey’s navigation of the agency’s investigation into the campaign of President Donald Trump (played by Emmy winner Brendan Gleeson) and possible connections it had with the Russian government.

The mark of a great actor is the ability to deliver a powerful performance, even without a lot of noise. That’s what Jeff Daniels does in Billy Ray’s ripped-from-the-headlines two-part limited series “The Comey Rule,” which hit Showtime September 27, 2020 for maximum impact ahead of the November election. For this docudrama, Daniels took on a well-known figure in recent American history — FBI Director James Comey — who went toe-to-toe with President Donald J. Trump (Brendan Gleeson), who infamously fired Comey in May 2017.
Daniels (“The Newsroom”) brings his trademark decency and gravitas to the role. (He’s also 6’3″ to Comey’s 6’8″.) Ray, Oscar-nominated for the adapted screenplay for “Captain Phillips,” pursued Daniels because “he brings instant credibility,” he said in a phone interview. “You know the guy’s telling you the truth. With someone as polarizing as Comey, that’s an important hire. Jeff is someone America already trusted. I needed...

Is it possible for something to feel dated and too soon at the same time? Watching The Comey Rule, Showtime’s two-part limited series (premiering tonight) about former FBI Director Jim Comey’s rocky four-year tenure straddling the Obama and Trump administrations, is in some ways like stepping into a distant period piece. In the opening minutes, we meet Comey on the morning of his job interview with Obama at the White House. Comey (played by Jeff Daniels) stares into his closet, mulling which navy suit to wear. His wife eventually picks one for him.

“I imagine we will be on his radar and I think it is likely the IRS will start auditing my taxes, but that’s just a guess,” The Comey Rule director Billy Ray said today on how Donald Trump will react to the upcoming Showtime event series. “I think at the very least, I’m in for a mean nickname on Twitter,” the Captain Phillips screenwriter added.
The actor playing ex-Celebrity Apprentice host may be in for a bit more than a mean moniker, in Ray’s estimation. “I wouldn’t want to expose any actor to the flack that I imagine Brendan is about to get from our current President,” he very seriously said Brendan Gleeson. “Ireland may not be far enough away,” Ray joked of the Irish actor’s current location.

Billy Ray is expecting Donald Trump will not be happy at how he is portrayed on Ray’s two-part Showtime miniseries “The Comey Rule.”
Though Ray began by stating that he “gave up predicting how Donald Trump would react to things about five years ago,” the writer and director of the upcoming miniseries added during Showtime’s virtual press day Thursday, “it’s likely the IRS will start auditing my taxes.”
“I have no idea how he will react. I imagine I will be on his radar,” Ray, who wrote and directed the upcoming miniseries, said Thursday during Showtime’s virtual press day. “I think it’s likely that the IRS will start auditing my taxes. But I think at the very least, I’m in for a mean nickname on Twitter.”
The series is based on former FBI director James Comey’s memoir, “A Higher Loyalty,” which was released in April 2018 by Flatiron Books.

HBO has the fix for television viewers with an insatiable appetite for insight on Russia’s interference with the United States’ 2016 presidential election.
That fix is titled “Agents of Chaos,” an upcoming two-part documentary from Alex Gibney that will premiere on September 23. HBO unveiled the trailer for the documentary on Monday and though the project covers well-trod territory, “Agents of Chaos” promises to shine a new light on the political controversy.
Per HBO, “Agents of Chaos” is a product of years of reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 election. With never-before-seen footage inside the Russian troll farms and videos unearthed from the Russian deep web, the film digs deep into the sophisticated plans to undermine democracy, raising the alarm for the American public, but also proving that these “agents of chaos” weren’t Russians alone; they were also key players in the United States who, through venality, corruption or circumstance,...

Alex Gibney, the Emmy and Oscar winning documentary filmmaker who has previously investigated everything from Scientology to Theranos, will pull back the curtain on Russian collusion in the 2016 U.S. elections.
Dubbed “Agents of Chaos,” the two-part film will debut on HBO on Sept. 23 in advance of the 2020 presidential contest. The second installment will air on Sept. 24. Gibney previously collaborated with HBO on the likes of “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” and “The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley.”

Showtime has moved up the premiere date of its upcoming miniseries “The Comey Rule” based on former FBI director James Comey’s memoir. It will air over two nights on Sept. 27 and 28.
Last week, Showtime announced that “The Comey Rule,” which stars Brendan Gleeson as President Donald Trump, would air in late November. The election is scheduled for Nov. 3. Showtime told TheWrap yesterday it was likely to move up.
Additionally, Showtime picked up the six-episode drama “We Hunt Together” from BBC Studios, which “explores the intoxication of sexual attraction and the dangerous power of emotional manipulation. As two conflicted detectives (Eve Myles and Babou Ceesay) track down a pair of deadly killers (Hermoine Corfield and Dipo Ola), the series reveals how finding a volatile form of solace in another can have dire consequences.” It will premiere on Aug. 9, moving back the Ethan Hunt-led “Good Lord Bird” to Oct. 4.

Showtime has announced that its miniseries on James Comey will air over two nights in late November.
The network has also released a first look at Jeff Daniels in character as the former FBI Director, and Brendan Gleeson in full Donald Trump mode.
Now titled “The Comey Rule” and based on Comey’s bestselling book “A Higher Loyalty,” the two-part, four-hour event series will take viewers on an insider’s journey down the corridors of power, where decision-makers struggle to apply old norms to a dramatic new paradigm in the face of Russia’s deep and unprecedented penetration into American politics, with our nation’s rule of law hanging in the balance.
Part one of the series examines the earliest days of the Russia investigation, the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and their impact on Election Night 2016, when Donald Trump stunned the world and was elected president.

Showtime has just set a late November premiere date over two nights for its limited series The Comey Rule, the $40 million budget adaptation of A Higher Loyalty, the book by former FBI head James Comey that is about his battles with President Donald Trump. The network released the first images of Gleeson playing Trump, and Daniels playing the former FBI chief in a series about the deterioration of their relationship that quickly became a bitter feud when Comey left his post after Trump fired him.
The decision to place the mini after the upcoming presidential elections is a bit of a puzzler, given its stellar cast and provocative premise. Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) plays former FBI Director James Comey and Brendan Gleeson (Mr. Mercedes) plays President Donald J. Trump.

The DOJ filed the request to drop the case with U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington, DC, on Thursday. Flynn, who Trump fired after only weeks on the job, pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents in 2017 and agreed to cooperate in Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
The Justice Department filing cited “newly discovered and disclosed information” as the reasons for dismissing the case.

“At the time, it was a one-year deal,” actor Michael Kelly reveals in his exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above) about joining “Jack Ryan” for its second season, which Amazon Prime released last fall. Asked if his role as CIA station chief Mike November has since expanded to continue into the third season that is next to shoot, Kelly teases, “I know exactly what they’re going to do next year.” He laughs, “I can’t talk about it — I can’t tell you if I’m involved in it or not!”

President Donald Trump will undoubtedly have more to say later on today at his press conference on coronavirus. For now, his tweets promoted optimism on a potential breakthrough on personal protective equipment (Ppe), the hard work White House staffers are putting in, and the Pope’s prayers on the pandemic.
Of course, there were also a few jabs thrown at Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, two prior combatants in the Trump universe.
We’ll update as more communications roll in. The tweetstorm so far:

Freshly acquitted of impeachment charges, President Trump has circled back around to complaining about the Mueller investigation. Last week it was what he deemed a too-harsh sentencing recommendation for former adviser Roger Stone, as well as the Justice Department’s decision not to prosecute former FBI Director Andrew McCabe. This week he’s broadened his attacks to include everyone involved in the special counsel’s investigation. They all need to be investigated, Trump has telegraphed to his tens of millions of Twitter followers.
Attorney General William Barr is reportedly not happy.

President Donald Trump is attempting to golf in damp West Palm Beach this morning. But he squeezed out two tweets and a few retweets before heading to the links — if the good walk isn’t spoiled by rain.
The Commander-in-Tweet shared a video that he thought hilarious, and a disturbing conversation between a San Francisco man and an Antifa thug. He also had time to underline the Andrew McCabe situation and warn his opponents that the king lives.

The CBS Studios miniseries based on James Comey’s book “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership” has added another player.
Robert Coyote has boarded the show to play Robert Mueller, Comey’s predecessor in the role of FBI Director, who was appointed to lead an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. His final report, released in April, ended in the controversial decision not to charge President Donald Trump with obstruction of justice.
Coyote will join Jeff Daniels as Comey, Brendan Gleeson as President Donald Trump, Michael Kelly as Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, and Jennifer Ehle as Patrice Comey, James’ wife.
“Captain Phillips” screenwriter Billy Ray has adapted the book and will be directing the as-yet-untitled series, which is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Shane Salerno and Heather Kadin. The drama is slated to being production in November, 2019 with an airdate to be announced at a later date.
