Marvel's Daredevil will soon be "Born Again" when the Disney+ series, reuniting the cast of the Netflix "Daredevil" series, finally premieres. Judging by the "Born Again" trailer, one of the new characters is feline-themed vigilante Hector Ayala/White Tiger (played by Kamar de los Reyes).
Daredevil fans might recognize that name, because in Brian Michael Bendis and Manuel Gutierrez's comic storyline "Trial of the Century," Matt Murdock defends White Tiger in court. Hector, falsely accused of murder while wearing his costume, faces a prosecutor eager to bring superheroes down a peg — but don't worry, he never sees the inside of a prison cell.
It remains to be seen how closely White Tiger's onscreen arc will mirror the comic version. Season 2 of the original "Daredevil" included a stretch set in Ryker's Island. After a failed defense from Nelson & Murdock, Frank Castle...

The Boys became a huge success thanks to its very R-rated take on superheroes, but it isnt the only property out there that shows the ugly side of the capes-and-tights crowd. Incognito is the perfect series to read for fans who have finished The Boys and are eager for more superhero stories with an ultraviolent edge.
Coming from the acclaimed creative team of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, Incognito tells the story of henchman Zack Overkill, who is placed in witness protection after informing on his supervillain boss. Similar to the creative teams earlier work Sleeper, Incognito was a journey through the underworld, showing off a side of superhero comics rarely seen in mainstream comics.
Consisting of the first six-issue miniseries and the five-issue follow-up sequel Bad Intentions, the entire saga was eventually collected in the over-sized hardcover Incognito: The Classified Edition in 2012.

Marvel's new "Ultimate" universe has been a success since it launched last year. Set in a similar but different timeline, "Ultimate Marvel" is a great on-ramp for new readers, with higher stakes, wilder experimentation, and a much lighter backlog.
The one-shot "Ultimate Universe: One Year In" #1 is coming this December. Marking the almost one-year anniversary since Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto's "Ultimate Spider-Man" launched in January, "One Year In" will "set the stage" for "Ultimate Marvel," Year Two.
At New York Comic-Con, Marvel confirmed a new hero will be debuting in "One Year In" — Ultimate Wolverine, who will spin-off into an ongoing series come January 2025. "Ultimate Wolverine" will be written by Chris Condon (writer of Western-horror-noir comic "That Texas Blood") and drawn by Alessandro Cappuccio ("Moon Knight"). 2024 is (a). almost over and (b). has officially entered its spooky season. So by now, we can pinpoint some horror trends. What is scaring us this year?
Both "Immaculate" and "The First Omen" are about young women forced by religious fanatics to bear unwanted and monstrous pregnancies. Due to the movies' overlapping subject matter and tight release window, they were named the harbingers of a pro-choice horror wave. America did recently strip people's rights to abortion by judicial fiat, after all. Even Coralie Fargeat's "The Substance," a body horror film about how beauty standards devalue aging women, is a cousin to these films. (Fargeat's film has got the most disgusting "birth" scene that doesn't star a chestburster.)
However, one should not forget the religious settings of "Immaculate" and "The First Omen," for this is where the two 2024 horror trends intersect.

Venom: The Last Dance trailer shocked fans with the reveal that the character of Knull, known as the King in Black and also the god of the Symbiotes, would appear in the third Tom Hardy Venom movie. Two people who were also surprised to see Knull in the trailer are Knulls' creators, Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman. The duo only found out when the trailer hit, and they all but confirmed that they had not been properly compensated for their creation's inclusion in the film.
Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman took to X, formerly Twitter, to comment on Knull's inclusion in the Venom: The Last Dance trailer. Stegman made a clear jab at Marvel for not paying him with a joke about how he will "finally be able to afford that lazy river moat around" his house.
Meanwhile, Cates was more direct, responding with a simple "lol" and a picture...

What would happen if Raymond Chandler and H.P. Lovecraft wrote a novel together? Comic series "Fatale" by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips offers an answer. Published from 2012 to 2014 across 24 issues at Image Comics, "Fatale" is named for the archetype every film noir needs: the femme fatale, the sultry knockout who wraps men around her fingers without a care for what happens to their twisted forms (phallic cigarette optional).
The center of "Fatale" is one such woman, named Josephine or simply Jo. Colorists David Stewart and Elizabeth Breitweiser give her blood red lips and hair as black as Ava Gardner. Is her raven hair the same shade as her heart? Not quite. You see, Jo simply can't help making men desire and chase after her — especially men who want her for an occult sacrifice. Brubaker and Phillips mostly cook their comics hardboiled, such as "Criminal" (soon to be a Prime Video...

Blink Twice star Adria Arjona has the wind at her back.
After her powerful turn as Bix Caleen on season one of the Emmy-nominated Andor, she followed it up with a scene-sealing performance in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, which included Arjona’s contender for line delivery of the year. (More on that later.) She’s also starring in the upcoming Los Frikis, Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson’s follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2019 film, The Peanut Butter Falcon. And with Andor season two already in the can, Arjona is currently filming yet another highly anticipated series in Criminal, which Ed Brubaker and Jordan Harper adapted from Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ comic book series of the same name. (Co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are helming the Amazon Prime series, which counts Charlie Hunnam, Richard Jenkins, Arjona, Emilia Clarke and Luke Evans as series regulars.)

Season 1 of "Batman: Caped Crusader" is officially here, and the verdict? It's pretty good! (Read /Film's glowing "Caped Crusader" review here.) It is not a sequel to "Batman: The Animated Series" in the same way this year's "X-Men '97" was to the original "X-Men" cartoon. However, "Caped Crusader" feels like a stylistic continuation of that show.
Bruce Timm, co-creator of "Batman: The Animated Series," developed "Caped Crusader" and both shows bear his distinctive art style. Classic series writers Paul Dini and Alan Burnett aren't involved, but the "Caped Crusader" writers' room does include, among others, veteran comic writers Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka.
I think the visuals of "Caped Crusader" aren't on par with "Batman: The Animated Series", but it's certainly got the right mood. Like Timm's previous "Batman" show, "Caped Crusader" focuses on Noir/Gothic stories and grounds Batman in the early 20th century. The character was created...

This Batman review contains spoilers.
Everything you need to know about Batman: Caped Crusader happens in the opening credits. Sepia-tone shots of Batman glowering from a rooftop or skulking through empty rooms give way to images of the Gotham police office and gangsters firing tommy guns, all set to a moody, mournful score. Fancy art-deco script introduces the creatives involved, including producer credits for J.J. Abrams and The Batman director Matt Reeves.
Then there’s Bruce Timm, whose influence on the series is unquestionable from the moment the credits scene kicks off. Caped Crusader plays like an updated version of the great Batman: The Animated Series, which Timm created with Eric Radomski. Male characters may not have the same barrel chests and female figures don’t all have hourglass shapes, but the same linework and designs from the ’90s show is present. Each frame appears painted on black matte paper again,...

With the passing of Donald Sutherland, I was looking through his catalogue for stuff I hadn’t seen yet as I like to look at the entire catalogue to find some hidden gems. What I was reminded of while looking was his stellar horror output over the years. Fallen, The Puppet Masters, Don’t Look Now, Virus, the Salem’s Lot TV miniseries, and of course Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors are all fun to great but for my money, his turn in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (watch it Here) and really the movie in general, is his best stuff. After buying the wonderful 4K from Kino Lorber and rewatching it, I’m also ready to crown it as the best San Francisco based horror movie too. While it can feel every bit as long as it’s 1 hour and 55-minute runtime, it uses that slow build tension to...

In the 1990s, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm revitalized Batman with their animated series that aired on the Fox network. That series was targeted at kids, but adult fans tuned in as well because the stories were satisfying for fans of all ages. Now, Timm is back with a new animated series starring the Dark Knight on Prime Video that is marketed as adult animation. But is Batman: Caped Crusader okay for kids to watch? Emilia Clarke and Charlie Hunnam star in Prime Video's Criminal, continuing the trend of adapting lesser-known comic book series. Criminal is grounded in realism, separate from super-powered individuals, focusing on crime noir narratives and compelling storytelling. The show's longevity may surpass The Boys and Invincible, with Brubaker's involvement and abundance of source material.
A new show with Charlie Hunnam and Emilia Clarke on its roster is about to continue a fascinating trend for Prime Video. When it comes to their acting careers, Charlie Hunnam and Emilia Clarke have had significantly different trajectories. Although both are household names, their paths as actors have never collided until now.
While Charlie Hunnam is best known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and, more recently, Rebel Moon, Emilia Clarke's most recognizable work is in Secret Invasion, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Game of Thrones.

It's not news that, for the most part, superhero movies haven't made audiences into regular comic book readers despite publisher efforts. If anything, it feels like the problems that have plagued the superhero comic duopoly are seeping over into Marvel Studios' blockbuster behemoth.
Some critics have gone so far as to say comics will never be the primary medium for superheroes again. Ritesh Babu writes, "To entire generations of children, the superhero is an entity of the screen, not the comics page." I'll admit, I'm proof positive of this hypothesis. I first met superheroes through movies, cartoons, and franchise encyclopedias with years of comic story bullet points and trivia all contained in one binding. (Such tomes are useful at convincing young fans that superhero stories are a historied mythology to be revered.)
I was never opposed to reading comics — in middle school, I gradually collected a handful of '80s...

Batman villains tend to fall into two categories; the gleefully irredeemable ones and the tragic ones. Two-Face falls, naturally, on both ends of this spectrum because he's two minds in one.
He was once crusading Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent, one of the few honest officials in a den of corruption. Until, while prosecuting a case, he got acid thrown in his face, leaving half of it horribly scarred. Now he is Two-Face, a villain split between good and evil and fixated on games of chance (hence his habit of flipping a coin). Since Harvey Dent (personified in Two-Face's unscarred half) still lives, Batman often tries to pull him back to the light, never quite succeeding.
At least, that's how it usually is. The upcoming series "Batman: Caped Crusader" will be taking a different approach to Two-Face.

Criminal: John Hawkes, Pat Healy, & more join Charlie Hunnam in Prime Video’s Ed Brubaker adaptation

John Hawkes has been one of my favorite character actors since he first came to my attention back in the ’90s with roles in films like Roadracers, Night of the Scarecrow, From Dusk Till Dawn, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, so it’s cool to hear (from Deadline) that he’s going directly from a multi-episode role in the latest season of True Detective to landing a recurring role in the Prime Video series adaptation of Criminal, the Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series written by Ed Brubaker and illustrated by Sean Phillips. Hawkes, along with Pat Healy (Better Call Saul), Taylor Selé (Bmf), and Logan Browning (Dear White People), join previously announced cast members Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Adria Arjona (Hit Man), Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water), and Kadeem Hardison (A Different World).

Batman's best stories explore his first encounters with iconic villains, like Joker in "The Man Who Laughs" by Brubaker and Mahnke. "White Knight" offers a fresh take on the ethical impact of Batman's actions, with Sean Murphy providing visually stunning storytelling. "No Man's Land" provides a dystopian view of Gotham without a functioning state, showcasing Batman's role as a sheriff-like figure dispensing justice.
For more almost eighty years, Batman has stood as one of the most recognizable and successful comic book characters in the medium. Bruce Wayne has an endless library of adventures ranging from psychological horror to murder mysteries, even captivating fans of the darker side of comics. And that ability is reflected in his best comic stories.

Doctor Victor Von Doom is the greatest supervillain Marvel has. Not just because of his rocking green cloak and metal armor look, either, but because of his persona. Doom is a man so grandly arrogant he thinks the world can only be saved if he rules it, yet so petty he lets a misplaced grudge against Reed Richards rule him.
Doom's vanity is so supreme he hides his scarred face behind a mask; not because he fears the judgment of others, but because he can't bear to see an imperfection when he gazes in the mirror. And yet, when he makes his grandiloquent declarations (always in the third person), it's not empty pomposity. Statements like "Doctor Doom does not fail!" delivered free of irony could be laughable, but instead Doom's willful personality convinces you.
Doom has been the villain of countless Marvel books; he famously doesn't limit himself to sparring with only his chief nemeses,...

The former Sons of Anarchy star is set to play the lead in Prime Video’s highly anticipated Criminal, which is based on a series of graphic novels by Ed Brubaker. The series returns Hunnam to the world of organized crime, a genre that’s paid nice dividends for him in between Sons of Anarchy and The Gentlemen. According to Deadline, Hunnam is set to play the lead, “Leo, a brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Back in January, the news broke that a series based on Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Eisner Award-winning comic book, Criminal, is in development for Amazon Prime Video, and the project has now added another lead cast member.

Ever since her husband died in a bank job gone bad, Greta has been battling with herself about how to escape the only life she’s ever known – and the only place she’s ever thrived. The problem is, she’s good at this. She’s looking for a big score, a lump of money she can use like a gun to shoot her and...
