Matthew Patrick may be stepping away from his role as the on-screen host of The Game Theorists, but he will stay active in the creator community. The man known as MatPat has been announced as a Featured Creator for VidCon, which will return to the Anaheim Convention Center on June 26, 2024.
Patrick is no stranger to VidCon. In his previous appearances at the annual convention, he has shared insights from his behind-the-camera work as a digital strategist and consultant. His departure from the Theorist Media brand — which was acquired by startup Lunar X in 2022 — will give him more time to analyze YouTube in detail.
VidCon announced its first batch of 2024 Featured Creators a month ago, when it set the date for the next edition of its Southern California gathering. Patrick headlined a second group of Featured Creators that also includes Fifth Harmony member Dinah Jane, “Internet Coworker” Rod Thill, multihyphenate Kalen Allen,...

When Variety broke the news that Kim Cattrall will reprise her iconic role as Samantha Jones for a cameo in the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That,” I couldn’t help but wonder… is there anything that could thrill a “Sex and the City” fan more?
The answer is yes: the HBO show’s 25th anniversary experience in New York City, as put on by Max, to celebrate Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha and — possibly most important — all of their stunning clothes.
Formally titled “And Just Like That…It’s Been 25 Years, A Sex and the City Experience,” the event will be open June 8-June 11, but Variety and other members of the press were let into Carrie’s closet early Thursday to explore.

Lil Nas X hit the MTV VMAs stage as both a nominee and a performer on Sunday night, and his mash-up of “Industry Baby” and “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” had fans sweating before the night was over.
The rapper kicked things off by literally marching onto the stage with a marching band, before eventually stripping down to almost nothing for some shower choreography.
For some, the performance evoked another iconic moment in music history: the “Band Geeks” episode of “SpongeBob SquarePants.” In the episode, originally released in September 2001, SpongeBob and his marching band perform at the halftime show of the Bubble Bowl — wearing full marching gear.
“Lil Nas X knows his references,” one person tweeted, along with a side-by-side image of SpongeBob and Lil Nas X wearing similar marching band uniforms.

Seth Rogen pulls double duty in this bittersweet fish-out-of-water comedy based on an acclaimed short story by comic writer Simon Rich. It’s an entertaining, oddly touching picture that finds Rogen on top form, twice.
Opening in the fictional Polish shtetl of Schlupsk, An American Pickle centres on lowly, bearded ditch-digger Herschel Greenbaum (Rogen), who moves to America with his pregnant wife Sarah (Succession‘s Sarah Snook) after one too many attacks by Jew-hating Cossacks. Herschel gets a job as a rat-basher in a pickle factory, but accidentally falls into a vat of pickles, just as the factory is closed down.
100 years later, Herschel wakes up, the pickle brine having miraculously kept him alive. He is dismayed to discover that his only living relative is his great-grandson Ben Greenbaum...

There’s a charming weirdness at the core of An American Pickle, the latest Seth Rogen star vehicle. It’s a movie that sounds like it could be either amazing or terrible, depending on the execution. Luckily, Rogen and company give it a steady hand, as well as a singular identity, making the comedy a really enjoyable one. By leaning into the premise and its various possibilities, as opposed to getting bogged down in one specific aspect and solely going for laughs there, it’s a fuller meal, if you’ll pardon the expression. As the first HBO Max cinematic release, it’s a good get for the company. Out now, it’s quite entertaining. The film is a comedy, one with a high concept, to boot. 100 years ago, Hershel Greenbaum (Rogen) is a simple gravedigger, one whose dreams of luxury include getting to taste seltzer water. When he meets...

Having just launched earlier this year, Young Entertainment Activists (Yea) is already making waves in the industry when it comes to its advocacy.
The non-profit organization is a huge network of more than 1000 entertainment professionals organizing young Hollywood to use their skills and resources for a local and national impact.
Yea held an Lgbtq+ panel and workshop Saturday at Netflix, where Transparent’s Jill Soloway moderated a conversation about queer representation with Margaret Cho (Fresh off the Boat), Alia Shawkat, Ian Alexander (The Oa), Rowena Arguelles (CAA), Nina Lederman (Sony Pictures Television) and Kalen Allen (The Ellen DeGeneres Show). However, it was not your usual diversity panel.

Ellen Digital Network (Edn), the digital production outpost (and mobile gaming and podcast publishing division) of Ellen DeGeneres' do-gooder media empire -- which counts 187 million social followers and 1 billion video views across all platforms -- announced yesterday a slate of four shows during its presentation at the inaugural NewFronts West in Los Angeles.
One of those shows will feature digital star Kalen Allen, who shot to viral acclaim for his hilarious reaction videos to questionable online recipe videos. Sensing something special in the 22-year-old, DeGeneres invited him onto her long-running television show, and has now greenlit OMKalen, a weekly digital series in which Allen will react to trending news stories every Saturday.
Additionally, Edn is partnering with plus-size model Ashley Graham on Fearless, which will explore self-acceptance and body positivity, and it has also announced The Ayesha Curry Project, in which the mompreneur will help other young women looking to build their own businesses.
