Plot: Begins with fraternal twins Devin and Cece adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.
Review: Growing up, I was slightly too old to enjoy Goosebumps. While I was graduating from Christopher Pike novels and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series to the more mature novels of Stephen King, tons of kids entered the gateway horror of Stine’s fun brand of scary stories to tell in the dark. The anthology series was a hit with kids looking for a good scare, and the big-screen films starring Jack Black amped up the comedy for a big-budget adventure. Disney+ and Hulu’s reboot of the franchise was a successful, scary take on the source material back in 2023, and this year’s sophomore entry is equally good.

R.L. Stine, the author of the beloved “Goosebumps” series, praised the new installment, “Goosebumps: The Vanishing,” as being really scary and predicted that “people are going to love it.”
The series, which premiered Friday on Disney+ and Hulu, stars David Schwimmer as botanist Anthony Brewer, whose kids Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece (Jayden Bartels) come to visit for the summer. When Devin delves into the mystery of how his uncle vanished in the ’90s, new dangers — including some particularly nasty and grabby vines — stalk them all.
The 81-year-old author talked to TheWrap about why people love horror so much and joked that he’s going to be writing the book series 30 years from now, when he’s 112, since he just signed on to pen six more.
TheWrap: Have you watched the new series yet?

While the horror genre continues to evolve onscreen, the stories of R.L. Stine are spooking audiences of a whole new generation.
In Sony Pictures Television‘s Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Season 2 of the Disney+ anthology adaptation from Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, the author’s works come to life onscreen once again in a whole new setting, the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn.
“I’m shocked by it,” Stine told Deadline. “I have a superstition. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, in a suburb, so most of the Goosebumps books take place in the backyard, a suburban backyard, which I think most kids can identify with.”
Still, the beloved children’s book scribe says the new season of Goosebumps “looks nice” after filming in Brooklyn and Queens.
Largely inspired by Stay Out of the Basement (1992), Stine’s second entry in the Goosebumps series, The Vanishing follows twins Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece...

Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston are taking their R.L. Stine-based hit show in a new direction with Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Letterman, whose history with the franchise goes back to directing the 2015 Jack Black-led movie adaptation of the horror novels, co-developed the show with Nicholas Stoller, whose filmography ranges from helming the fan-favorite comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall to co-creating and directing the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy show Platonic. Winston, whose producorial career took off with My Name is Earl, was a co-showrunner with Letterman and Stoller on season 1 and is now sole showrunner on the new season.

A new group of teens find themselves wrapped up in a new horrifying mystery in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. The Disney+ show serves as an adaptation of R.L. Stine's iconic children's horror novels of the same name, with the first season centering on a group of teens in a fictional small town of Washington who inadvertently unleash an evil force connected to the death of a teen from 30 years prior. The Vanishing is taking an anthology approach to the show, focusing on a new set of characters in New York and their investigation into the disappearance of a teen from 30 years prior.
Among the Goosebumps: The Vanishing's roster of characters is American Born Chinese alum Stony Blyden as Trey, the jock of the group who proves antagonistic to main characters, Devin and Cece, after the former begins bonding with his girlfriend, Frankie. Sam McCarthy and Jayden Bartels are twin siblings whose summer with their dad turns into a nightmare in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. After having supporting roles in everything from the acclaimed coming-of-age drama All These Small Moments to Audience/Epix's adaptation of Condor, McCarthy properly broke out with Netflix's Dead to Me, playing the older son of Christina Applegate's Jen. Bartels, on the other hand, first rose to stardom with her work as a TikTok and YouTube influencer, while subsequently finding acting success with Disney Channel's Coop & Cami Ask the World and Nickelodeon's Side Hustle.

David Schwimmer is venturing into the chilling world of horror for the first time in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Though having worked steadily through the early '90s in recurring and supporting roles in both film and TV, Schwimmer quickly became a household name thanks to his turn as Ross Geller in the hit sitcom Friends, a role he played for all 10 seasons, and earned an Emmy nomination for. The years since have seen him explore a wide variety of genres, including the true-story-based The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which netted him his second Emmy nomination, and the animated Madagascar franchise.
Schwimmer stars in Goosebumps: The Vanishing as Anthony, a single father and botanist living in New York whose teenage son Devin and daughter Cece come to stay with him for the summer. Since he was a teenager, Anthony has been haunted by the sudden disappearance of his brother,...

David Schwimmer and two key creatives behind Goosebumps have discussed the show giving him his first lead horror role. The Disney+ anthology series is inspired by the children's book series of the same name by R. L. Stine and tells a different family-friendly horror story every season. ScreenRant had the opportunity to interview Goosebumps showrunner Hilary Winston, co-creator Rob Letterman, and star David Scwhimmer ahead of the new season. A new cast member has boarded All American. The sports drama, which premiered in 2018 and is one of the last remaining CW scripted series on that was on the air before the network was acquired by Nexstar, was created by April Blair and stars Daniel Ezra, Bre-z, Greta Onieogou, and Michael Evans Behling. All American season 7, which will be the first not to feature Ezra as a series regular playing lead character Spencer James, is currently being written and does not yet have an official premiere date.
Per Deadline, Elijah M. Cooper - who played the older version of Angela Bassett's character's son Harry Grant in season 7 of 9-1-1 - has joined the cast of All American season 7 in a recurring role. In the new Goosebumps: The Vanishing trailer, dad and divorcee Anthony (played by David Schwimmer) has one rule for his twins spending a summer in his Gravesend, Brooklyn, home: Stay out of the basement.
The command naturally leads one curious twin Devin, played by Sam McCarthy, to ask the following: “What do you got in the basement?”
What follows is an uptick in supernatural events: worm-like creatures wriggle around in Anthony’s arm, red sludge overflows from a bathroom sink, and a car begins to steer itself. Goosebumps: The Vanishing...

If Goosebumps is going to have a revival, we are all in for it. So many of us grew up on R.L. Stine’s spooky spines, collecting haunted masks and staying out of the basement. The live-action movies may have run their course, but the series is thriving on the small screen. With strong enough ratings and reviews, word came a few months after the first season’s conclusion that a sophomore season would officially mark it as an anthology. Now, we have the official trailer for what has been dubbed Goosebumps: The Vanishing.
As per Disney, Goosebumps: The Vanishing “begins when twins Cece and Devin Brewer are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown,...

Disney+'s adaptation of the iconic R.L. Stine horror book series is back with the Goosebumps season 2 trailer. Co-developed by Rob Letterman, who directed the 2015 movie adaptation, and Nicholas Stoller, season 1 of the show took a serialized approach to adapting Stine's novels and was both a critical and viewership hit for the streamer. Goosebumps season 2 was officially announced in February 2024, though was revealed to be taking an anthology approach by shifting to a new setting and cast of characters with the subtitle The Vanishing.
Now, in honor of New York Comic Con, Disney+ and Hulu have released the official Goosebumps season 2 trailer. There's just something about the '90s comedy series Friends and the main cast members that still have us hooked to this day! Even after all these years, us fans love to support the actors in the projects they are still doing. And that includes one cast member who is set to star in Goosebumps season 2, coming in January 2025!
Lisa Kudrow recently took the lead in Time Bandits on Apple TV+. Though that's unfortunately been canceled after one season. But, fear not! She does have a dark comedy Netflix series coming soon on Dec. 12, 2024, and that's No Good Deed! Be sure to check the actress out there.
Of course there's also the one and only Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show on Apple TV+ as well! That drama is as dramatic as ever. And it's so good, we love it. Though it's neither of these lovely ladies who are set...

Goosebumps is coming back for Season 2 on Disney+ and we’ve got details on The Vanishing!
Disney+ (like many streamers) has had a bad habit of canceling some fun shows after just one season: Willow, American Born Chinese, Renegade Nell and even Star Wars: The Acolyte. So it says something that Goosebumps was renewed for a second season over more high-profile shows.
It helps the show has a built-in fanbase, based on the long-running young adult horror books by R.L. Stine. It focused on a pack of teens who are haunted by a twisted spirit that ties into a crime committed by their parents and integrating parts of several of the books. The show was a good success, earning a second season.
However, rather than bringing back the original cast, the series will take on an anthology approach. Thus, Season 2 has a brand new title and storyline, subtitled The Vanishing.

While the world collectively processes Buck’s sexual awakening on Thursday’s 9-1-1, let us not overlook another major development from the ABC procedural’s 100th episode: they recast Harry!

"Do you know what photography means?" "When you break it down, it really means drawing with light." An official trailer has debuted for a short film called A Million Eyes, the latest made by British filmmaker Richard Raymond (Desert Dancer). This first premiered at the HollyShorts Film Festival and is stopping by the Raindance Film Festival in the UK next this month. The short is about a gifted young photographer, grappling with his mother's alcoholism, who sets out to capture something he loves. This stars Elijah M. Cooper as Leroy, with Joe Morton and Katie Lowes. As a photographer myself, I adore this trailer and the way it speaks so lovingly about photographer and the power it has to capture "something you love". Hopefully this short will end up online soon, as I'd love for everyone to take just a moment and watch this. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster...
