Maira Dzelzkaleja-Burmistre
Maira Dzelzkaleja-Burmistre (M.Sc.Econ) is Vice-chairwoman of Latvia's biggest producing farmers' organisation - "Farmers' Parliament" (Zemnieku Saeima), which main objective is to represent farmers interests both on national level and EU level.
Maira has extensive experience in the chairmanship of farmer representative organisations as a senior elected farmer leader with qualifications in agri-food and cooperative management, as well as extensive experience in working together with relevant representative farmers' and agri-cooperative organisations in the European Union (former Vice-President of Copa - Chairwoman of the Copa-Cogeca Working party on Rural Development).
Professional competences focus on issues related to sustainable and competitive farming, EU agriculture and rural development policies within the EU.
She is one of the leading experts in agriculture with more than 18 years' experience combining both theory and practice in the family farm - Vilcini -1.
The farm operates intensively using the most advanced technologies, but at the same time taking care of resource efficiency and the environment. The farm was a Latvia winner in the competition Best Farmer of Baltic Sear region."
