TV ratings: Oscars rise with Seth MacFarlane and 'Argo'

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013

Ratings for the Academy Awards are up compared to last year's show. Host Seth MacFarlane and a slate of mainstream movies up for awards, including Best Picture winner "Argo," made for bigger numbers in the early returns.

Fast nationals -- which are approximate because of ABC's live telecast -- put the Oscars at a 12.1 rating among adults 18-49 in primetime, up significantly from last year's 10.3, which rose to 11.7 in the final nationals. (This year's show ran until about midnight Et; more detailed ratings will be available later in the day.) Viewer numbers were up as well.

ABC of course dominated the night, as everything but "The Amazing Race" on CBS was a repeat. The Alphaet averaged 32.4 million viewers and an 18.7 rating/28 share in households. CBS (5.7 million, 3.6/5) was the best of the rest. Fox (2.9 million, 1.7/3) beat NBC (2.8 million, 1.8/3) for third.

ABC scored a 10.1 rating among adults 18-49 in primetime.
