Max Steel Adaptation Moves Forward

Dolphin Entertainment has resurrected the languishing Max Steel, setting Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) to direct from a screenplay by Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World).

The project had initially been set up at Paramount Pictures, which had Taylor Lautner attached to star as the title character for a period of time. He bowed out in February 2010 in favor of Stretch Armstrong, a project which he later left in January 2012. When Paramount let the rights expire, the project reverted back to Mattel. The toy company is taking a more hands-on role in the development, partnering with Miami-based Dolphin Entertainment, which is funding the development.

Max Steel centers on a teenage boy named Max, who controls an energy power dubbed Tachyon Unlimited Radiant Bio-Optimized (Turbo), and partners with the alien Steel.

Joe Roth is attached to produce, although no production schedule has been given at this time. Disney Xd launched a Max Steel
