‘Settlers of Catan’ Movie, TV Project in the Works

Gail Katz, whose producing credits include “Pawn Sacrifice,” “Air Force One” and “The Perfect Storm,” has acquired feature film and TV rights to the boardgame “The Settlers of Catan.”

The multiplayer game was first published in Germany in 1995. It has sold over 22 million boardgames in 30 languages.

“I’ve been wanting to see an adaptation of the game for years, ever since my Catan-obsessed college-aged kids introduced me to it,” said Katz. “The island of Catan is a vivid, visual, exciting and timeless world with classic themes and moral challenges that resonate today. There is a tremendous opportunity to take what people love about the game and its mythology as a starting point for the narrative.”

Created by Klaus Teuber, the game’s goal is to create the dominant community on the ever-changing fictional island of Catan amid the island’s scarce resources.
