Xbox One's New DVR Feature Requires External Hard Drive

Microsoft announced a new DVR feature is coming to Xbox One, but you may want to go pick up an external hard drive if you don't have one already. You will need it! Find out why after the jump!

During Microsoft's Xbox Gamescom conference they announced that Xbox One will soon have DVR functions for over-the-air TV. The Xbox will be capable of recording live TV, scheduling recordings, and best of all, do it all without interrupting your gaming.

There is only one thing to make certain so far though. You will need an external hard drive.

The DVR update is coming as part of the "New Xbox One Experience" which is a revamp of the dashboard on the console. Speaking about the update project lead, Richard Irving, noted that the DVR function will require an external hard drive and will not utilize the system's internal drive at all.
