Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal Return to the War on Terror with HBO, 'Serial'

Director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal are back in the headlines—three years after the debut of their controversial portrait of the hunt for Osama bin Laden, "Zero Dark Thirty"—with separate projects that bring them back to familiar terrain: the so-called "War on Terror." Oscar winner Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") is currently developing jihadi recruitment drama "The Recruiters" at HBO. Bigelow will executive producer the project, written and directed by Somali-born Canadian polymath K'naan Warsame, with former HBO president Carolyn Strauss. Bigelow last worked with HBO while directing the pilot for "The Miraculous Year," which was not picked up.
