Box-Office Weekend: Black Panther Overthrown

After five weeks atop the box-office weekend results, Disney and Marvel’s Black Panther fell to the second spot in the weekend’s top ten. It was overcome by the arrival of Pacific Rim: Uprising which won the weekend earning $28 million.

Despite falling to second place, Black Panther still brought in $16.1 million to raise its domestic six-week total over $630 million. This makes the film the highest grossing comic book adaptation of all time. Impressively, around the globe, the film has amassed over $1.2 billion.

Third place again belonged to I Can Only Imagine, which brought in $13.8 million to raise its domestic total to $38.3 million. Elsewhere, the animated film Sherlock Gnomes made its domestic debut this weekend to the tune of $10.6 million. Tomb Raider, meanwhile, suffered a sharp drop of 56%, taking in just $10.4 million after banking $23.5 million during its opening weekend. Meanwhile, A Wrinkle in Time added $8 million to lift its three-week total to $73.9 million.
