Last week’s “Riverdale” episode was “A Night to Remember,” and indeed, we’re still thinking about all those fantastic musical numbers. Now, we’re getting one more.
One scene between Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) was cut for time, but Warner Bros. is now sharing their duet “You Shine,” which was sung throughout the episode by different sets of characters.
“We hated having to lose this reprise of ‘You Shine’ from the musical, [but] we did it because the episode ran long,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “But we heard how much the fans wanted to see this Choni scene, so here it is! We’re thrilled people are so passionate about this relationship–we are, too!”

Cheryl and Toni’s relationship has been budding since Cheryl found in the Serpent a confidant, and Toni helped break Cheryl out of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, where the nuns basically tortured our red-lipped cheerleader with gay conversion “therapy.”
The deleted song from “Carrie: The Musical” takes place on the bleachers after Toni helps convince Cheryl that she’s just as badass as she was when she burnt her family’s mansion down (this conversation inspires Cheryl to confront her mother, dripping in blood, à la Carrie). In the original episode, which aired April 18, the scene was cut right after their conversation.
Watch the extended scene with the duet above, and check out our Q&A with Casey Cott all about the episode over here.
“Riverdale” airs Wednesdays at 8/7 c on The CW.
