While Batman has been an institution in popular culture since the 1930s, it wasn't until the 1960s that the character gained a good deal of traction in the popular consciousness, thanks primarily to the William Dozier-produced CBS TV show. And while Adam West and Burt Ward were the stars of the show, one of the more attractive gimmicks of "Batman" was the regular rotating retinue of celebrity cameos and guest villains.
