Though he has since become one of Star Wars' most popular characters thanks to the success of The Mandalorian, Grogu still has quite a mysterious background. Grogu, also known to many as "Baby Yoda," was a surprise addition to the story of The Mandalorian, where he made his debut at the end of the Star Wars TV show's first episode. With his inclusion in the story kept a secret up until that point, Grogu's first appearance was even more remarkable, and he's quickly become a beloved Star Wars character ever since then.

Years later, Grogu is considered to be one of Star Wars' best characters, if only because of his rich Star Wars history. Though Grogu's story in The Mandalorian covers largely unexplored territory, the little one's connections go back quite far in the Star Wars timeline. From his origins to his species, Grogu becomes only more important the longer his story goes on.
