Sons of Anarchy's First 9, Explained
Sons of Anarchy dives head-first into the world of motorcycle clubs, centering on one particular club in the fictitious town, Charming, California. Samcro, which is short for Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original, came into existence in the late '60s. Founded by two best friends, John Teller and Piney Winston, the club was imagined as a place for family and brothers.
The events of Sons of Anarchy start with the club's second President. The sons of the First 9 members have all grown up. "First 9" is a special ranking for the original nine members when Samcro was established. By the time of Sons of Anarchy, only four of them are still alive, with Piney and Clay still in the club, and the next generation of the First 9 becoming more involved in the club business.
