Kathy Bates Feared Stephen King Adaptation Would End Her Career

Kathy Bates admits that she was horrified after watching herself starring in Stephen King's Misery for the first time. She feared it would be "the end of her career."
Bates' performance as Annie Wilkes drew widespread acclaim from critics, with Misery going on to become the only film based on a Stephen King novel to win an Oscar to date. Speaking at the TCM Classic Film Festival alongside director Rob Reiner, Bates talked about the film and the creative differences they shared on set. Ultimately, Bates' role in the film did anything but kill her career. Instead, it secured her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
