The First State is the official nickname of Delaware. Before its coastline was explored by Europeans in the 16th century, Delaware was inhabited by several groups of Native Americans, including the Lenape in the north and Nanticoke in the south. In July 2017 we're celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, a social phenomenon that occurred during the summer of 1967 when mostly young people sporting hippie fashions of dress and behavior, first converged in San Francisco's neighborhood Haight-Ashbury and later in many other places in the US, Canada and Europe.
