Face-Off: "Big Five" Oscars Quadruple Nominees
Only one person, Warren Beatty has "officially" secured a rare Oscars "Big Five" quadruple by securing four out of a possible four "Big Five" acting, writing, directing and producing nominations for the same film. Amazingly, he repeated the feat just three years later. Prior to 1950, only one other person, Orson Welles "unofficially" secured the same quad, but at that time Best Picture nominees were in the production company's name and not in the name of the credited producers. Which same person Oscar nominated actor-writer-director-producer has the best same film total package in combined results for character portrayal, script writing, direction and the overall movie? Veiled (But Not Unvalued) Beauties
"Veiled" to be taken here in a very broad sense... Indeed, in a time where beauty relies on the "shown" and the sexy, whether for men or women, we tend to forget that many civilizations in the world had set modesty as a standard of 'beauty'. This poll doesn't intend to elevate one style or fashion above another but only tries to show that even a veil or a headscarf shouldn't necessarily be considered as the antithesis of freedom, and certainly not of a certain vision of physical attraction. Many actresses have worn a modest clothing for a specific role, one of them was "drawn" that way, and it would be a lie to say that they weren't feminine or attractive, regardless of any religious consideration. In that regard, what is your favorite picture of a TV/movie woman wearing either a headscarf or a (non-bridal) veil? After voting, you might discuss the list here
Oscar Nominees & Winners at 27
Celebrating the 27th anniversary of our favorite website, here are the 31 performances that earned their actors an Oscar nomination (in some cases a win) on the year of their 27th birthday. Which of these performances (ranked chronologically) would you consider your favorite? After the vote, you might discuss the list here (oh, and the * refers to a supporting role) Again, I know it's very likely that the actor/actress might not have turned 27 (or 28) before the actual date of the ceremony, but using the same convention as for the last two editions of this poll, only years are considered.
Robert De Niro's Waiting
... is the name of a song from 1984 by Bananarama. An homage to the iconic actor, as well as to the escape that film can provide, it's sung from the point of view of a young woman, disappointed and heartbroken by her local romantic possibitlites, who takes solace in the poster of Robert De Niro that waits in her bedroom. She imagines a handsome, 40-year old De Niro coming to her, "talking Italian," and sings, "This is my only escape from it all / Watching a film or a face on the wall." Who, among these characters, most need De Niro or other idealized movie star to cheer them up by magically appearing in their lives? Lament here

Triple Oscar Actor-Writer-Producer Hat Tricks
An ice hockey hat trick occurs when a player scores three goals in a single game. It is celebrated with fans throwing hats onto the ice from the stands. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, hat tricks in other fields are likewise "three successes of the same kind, especially consecutive ones within a limited period". Hat tricks from other fields can be found in competitions, as varied as, Cricket, Marbles, Darts and Scrabble. The Oscar hat trick is similarly a rare and extraordinary feat, when an individual is thrice recognized for a single film by Academy voters. In honor of the 2019 National Hockey League Stanley Cup and 2019 NCAA Collegiate Men's and Women's Frozen Four, a tribute to one of the rarest and most difficult hat tricks to achieve, the Oscar nomination hat trick. Only two people, Warren Beatty and Bradley Cooper have "officially" achieved a rare Oscars triple by securing acting, writing and producing nominations for the same film. Amazingly, Beatty did it twice repeating the feat within three years. Prior to 1950, two others, Charles Chaplin and Orson Welles "unofficially" secured the same triple, but at that time Best Picture nominees were in the production company's name and not in the name of the credited producers. Which same person Oscar nominated actor-writer-producer has the best same film total package in combined results for character portrayal, script writing and overall movie? Discuss the topic here.
