Reprising a poll from December 31, 2009, let's ask the question again: which movie genre matches your own resolution for 2014? ... and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Discuss here The options are listed by movies from different genres -sometimes on a very broad meaning- and all featuring a New Year's Eve scene.

The Father of 'The Princess Bride'

IMDb is saddened to announce the death of celebrated screenwriter and author William Goldman, at the age of 87. Goldman, the brother of Oscar-winning author James Goldman, is best known for his many classic screenplays, including Oscar-winners Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and All the President's Men (1976), but he also wrote some plays and 25 books, including novels, non-fiction and memoirs. His highly-recommended non-fiction books and memoirs are of particular interest to fans and scholars as they tell both juicy, behind-the-scenes stories and give practical advice on screenwriting. Which of Mr. Goldman's beloved and award-winning films do you consider the greatest? Want to talk about it? Click here!

Face-Off: 'Magnolia' vs. 'The Graduate' vs. 'Harold & Maude'

Which of these movies, each inspired by one specific musical artist, do you think combined music and film the most successfully? Several films have been created from classic albums, like Pink Floyd’s The Wall or The Who’s rock-opera Tommy.  There are also albums that are basically musical versions of film scripts, such as Prince’s Purple Rain or Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly. Musical artists, however, are rarely commissioned to provide an entire soundtrack’s worth of original material for a movie in which they shared no part in filming or writing — essentially creating a score of new songs that carry their weight independent of the film, as well. A small, elite group of pop artists can claim such a distinction: Simon and Garfunkel composed music for 'The Graduate', Cat Stevens did 'Harold and Maude', and Aimee Mann's music provided the soundtrack, and some of the inspiration, for 'Magnolia'. A few others are out there but these three are widely considered the best in film, music, and the synthesis of the two. Discuss (and hear sample songs) here.

The Movies That Knew Too Much

"The answer my friend, is blowin' the whistle..." Steven Spielberg's upcoming (and anticipated) The Post (2017) seems like a solid companion to famous "whistle-blowing" movies like recent Best Picture winner Spotlight (2015) or the classic All the President's Men (1976). Tom Hanks even reprised the role of Ben Bradlee that earned Jason Robards an Oscar in 1977. There is a reason why whistle-blowing movies are so inspirational (and a bit Oscar-baity): they deal with the struggles of everyday heroes or heroines, fictional or real, triumphant or tragic, who had the courage to jeopardize their lives by revealing hidden injustices, unveiling shocking scandals or asking controversial questions... here's one that won't be too controversial for once. Which of these whistle-blowing movies is your favorite? After voting, discuss the list here
