We're Off to Quote the Wizard...
... the Wonderful Wizard of Oz! A chapter of history has definitely been turned with the passing of Jerry Maren, last surviving Munchkin since 2014, the year The Wizard of Oz (1939) celebrated its 75th anniversary, along with another masterpiece from a whiz of a director Victor Fleming. Indeed, the iconic classic is probably after Gone with the Wind (1939) one of the most quotable movies of legendary 1939, if not all cinema's history. So, remembering through Jerry Marren, the Munchkins and the legacy of one of the all-time greatest classics, which of these quotes from the film is your favorite? Who is Your Favorite Character With “Cat”, “Panther”, or “Puss” in Their Name?
This is a silly, fun poll. All these characters have the words “Cat”, “Panther”, or “Puss” in their name. Which is your favorite? You got one to suggest or want to talk about, the virtual scratch post is here. Even though, I’d let Ms. Galore get on here (I just love the character), try to make sure “Puss” refers to a cat. P.S. Trying to get a picture of Penelope Pussycat alone, without Pepe Le Pew, is just simply impossible on the IMDb. On another site, this is her, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penelope_Pussycat#/media/File%3APenelope_Pussycat.png.
Man! You Don’t Look Like Yourself or Who Would Win a Lon Chaney Award
For those who don’t know who Lon Chaney was, he was a famous silent film star known as “The Man of a Thousand Faces” because he was an expert at makeup and created his own character makeup. But more importantly for this poll, his makeup was so complete that you could not recognize his face. The following is a list of actors/actresses who wore makeup for a role that you couldn’t recognize their face. And there are some characters who appear in multiple films where makeup is required — like the Joker or Frankenstein’s monster. Who is the most unrecognizable? The best part is that since the IMDb always print the names of the people in the images, I don’t have to write the name for each entry. But I will have an IMDb link to a picture of how the actor looks without makeup. And nowhere in the film is their real face is shown except for Mel Brooks and Eddie Murphy who did multiple roles in their own films like “Coming To America” or “Spaceballs” or “Wizard of Oz”. One entry per actor. If you know anybody else who had a makeover of the worst or weird kind for a film, the makeup chair is right over here.
