70s Paranoid Thriller Films

In the 1970s, particularly in the shadow of Watergate and general disillusion with the government or corporate establishment, there was a particular genre of thrillers which became popular, that involved various shadowy conspiracies. These could involve the government (or secret rogue groups within the government), corporations, or other nebulous groups of powerful people behind the scenes. Often a lone person (or very small group of people) will see or notice something that puts him or her on the trail of such a conspiracy. This person could be an intrepid reporter, or a small-time cop or sheriff, or a private investigator. Often this person has no clue at first what he's getting himself into, but as his curiosity peels back more layers of the onion, he'll suddenly find a stray bullet whizzing by him, or some other grave threat to his health coming from the shadows. This will almost always stiffen his resolve to find out what's going on, and the race is on for him to gather enough evidence to expose the truth before his newfound foes end him. His success in that race isn't always guaranteed. Which of these "paranoid thrillers" of the 70s intrigued or frightened you the most? Discuss here

Favorite Dustin Hoffman Movie

He 'graduated' in 1967, dustin' off Hollywood's leading man standards. In 1969, he was 'walking here' and in 1976, he was actually running. Whether "Rain", "Marathon" "Little Big" or one "of the President's", Dustin Hoff... was the MAN (though in 1982, he admitted he was a better man with a woman, as a woman... than he ever was as a man). And on the 8th day of the 8th month, beloved star and iconic method actor Dustin Hoffman celebrated his 80th birthday. Seminal Films for Baby Boomers

If you happen to have been born between 1946 and 1964 or thereabouts (and if not, you'll just have to pretend :-) ), then you should recall many if not all of these films. Which title do you recall most fondly? Which film perhaps even influenced you in some way in a time when social values, political views, music taste, sexual prejudices, drug use, race relations, respect for state authority, women's rights and so many other entrenched views were being questioned without quite knowing what this would lead to. Limiting the list: To keep this list faintly manageable, it ranges from the early sixties which saw the first boomers in their teens (so no Rebel Without a Cause (1955) or West Side Story (1961)), to the mid seventies before subject matter turned to mid-life crisis (Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), The Big Chill (1983), Field of Dreams (1989)) and post Vietnam coping (Apocalypse Now (1979), Coming Home (1978), The Deer Hunter (1978)).
